That movie is really weird. I burst out laughing for the most part, but found the serious shift to be rather unsettling. The movie easily could have been treated as a serious drama, but the director probably wanted it to stand out or at least parody historical dramas, but I can't be sure if that was his intention or not. I can't say for sure if its good or bad, but if one looks at it as a parody of historicals, its a good watch. At least the director bothered to gfive Baekjans and Sillans the appropriate dialects, even if it is exaggerated (I have family from Kyongsang, they don't talk that funny)
That being said, it did way more justice to the Gyebaek story as I said before. The part where Gyebaek's wigfe begs for him to kill her? That was really stupid.

Just finished this i really like the last 5 episodes right after the 12 year jump being the fall of Baekje .The rest of the series was ok but they (MBC) really kick it up a few notches for the final run in . Of course Lee Seo Jin does another great job ,the actors were great ,writing was the usual ,all in all not good not bad with final 5 episodes being very good .

For me, this drama was one of the worst dramas ever. Geunchogo was god-like compared to this one. You should check out God of War if you ever have time. God of War is about to become one of my all-time favorites right now. It's a wonderful drama except for the romance plot. It has few historical distortions, but they are very small compared to DJY, Geunchogo, QSD, Gyebaek, and Gwanggaeto. God of War also has my favorite narrator in it (The narrator of Tears of Dragon, Wang Guhn, Immortal Yi Soon Shin)

Korean netizens recently discovered that Hyomin(Gyebaek's wife in this drama) used to be part of a girl gang called Geumok during her high school years and her nickname in the gang was sex machine lol.

I don't know how I missed this discussion of Hwangsanbul, but I see that Amazon no longer has it available (says you can rent it for $20 but apparently you cannot).
I looked it up on Netflix, looks like they have it, so I'll put that on my list.

FYI, network NTD (New Tang Dynasty) is showing this in their legacy drama slot, daytimes 1-2pm PDT weekdays. I am not sure what episode they are on, and I've never seen it, so I'm kinda lost at this point.

I'm embarrassed that this drama is being shown to Chinese audience due to the fantasy RPG game-style armor. It isn't just this drama's issue, however. All MBC dramas that take place before Joseon dynasty have fantasy-style armors.

I'll try to catch the opening tomorrow to see what ep they are on, if anyone wants to watch it that has that Network on their cable or OTA broadcast.
As of Tuesday, 4/18, they are already on episode 21, so I'm too late to the party to get into this one.
