Yeah, you’re right, G. I’d have left well enough alone, but then DYC just had to get in that thumb-twiddling dig, so while I appreciated DYC’s comments about the first 150 episodes, if she’d have left it at that, I would have too. Besides, we do normally agree (ex: Yi San > Dong Yi).On the other hand, it’s hard to accept unfair criticism of a show like Emperor Wang Guhn, especially since no recent series has approached it in terms of overall vision. You say you have the right to be disappointed. Yes, you do, but I say that you're lucky to have seen the show at all and you should stop slamming it. But I’m tired of this kerfuffle, so hopefully this is it. I explained what set EWG apart from most of the other historical dramas and responded specifically to both of your criticisms (including the alleged characters popping in and out without explanation thing. It’s not true at all.). Clearly, the three of us watch Korean historical dramas for very different reasons. I have no choice, but to accept that you and DYC don’t agree with me, but I really do wish you could have more fully appreciated what you experienced when you watched such an extraordinary series.

There you go again Ken with your personal digs ,i am a he not a she . We just went through this thing about not getting personal and of course you had to jump in and start it all over again . Really if you love the drama fine if someone else is not so impressed let it go or maybe seek medication to find peace of mind . My comment about the thumb twiddling was fair in the context of watching it twice a week over 5 weeks the lack of plot progression ,than we get a revolt and another 4 weeks of "will he wont he ". So we can conclude you think the last 40 odd episodes are the best thing since sliced bread and deem the whole drama a masterpiece ,i would have concluded the same opinion until the most hokey ambush scene ever on film ,where a very savvy general Wang Guhn walks into an ambush (the empty tents )that a general of his stature should have sussed right from the get go ,to top it off a few episodes later he blunders into another one equally as hokey ,considering his earlier victory's its hard to imagine we are watching the same person .
From that point on the drama stumbles to the finish line only finding redemption at the final 3 episodes .So id give it a 7 tops ,but because i was not as awestruck by the drama as yourself you seem unable to accept people have different opinions and have had to resort to hurling insults like calling me "a she "and questioning my sanity ,BTW maybe you can explain what happened to Wang Guhn's first wife .we see her health failing she goes to a convent to try and get better and that is the last we see of her ,a few eps later the other two wives say they hope she is recovering and she is never seen again ,but you make the claim no character vanishes ,well there's one another is Kyun Hwon's Empress who coaxed her sons into rebelling ,she also is never seen or heard of again after Shin Guhm and his brothers go to war (ep 199)

Ken, When did DYC says that this drama was not good? She spoke of the pacing, the battle uniforms, the lack lusterness of the dragging of episodes, no explanation of people popping in and out etc.etc. she never said it was not good..she stated from 1 thru 150.... DYC, this is where I got the idea that you were a "she" - no disrespect was intended, quite the opposite. It seems that you also have a problem with someone disagreeing with you, so we have something in common, it seems. No matter. I stated my case and I stand by it.

Um. Good? LOL.
As a woman, I'm insulted that you are insulted that Ken thought you were a woman.
NAH. KIDDING! Well, I am a woman, but I don't have time to be insulted by people being insulted.
Bo
PS = Just for the record, hated Heo Jun's first half, liked second half, loved IYSS, thought Jumong pretty good in spite of the pathetically inadequate Song Il-gook (that's right, I said pathetically inadequate), and really really wish I could have the opportunity to see Wang Guhn. So y'all are ahead of me on that.

Yes i was very nervous about responding to that because i did not want to upset any of the ladies here ,so was not being a sexist piggywig . You know after 16 episodes of AOW im wishing Wang Guhn was still on ,sadly AOW had so much hype it and "best thing since the wheel ect",It would be hard for any drama to meet such expectations ,also peeps who saw it the first time around did not have the expectations us newbies have ,still only 16 episodes in thinking back to Seondeok i was not impressed with the first 20 episodes than once her back ground was exposed it became a great drama so i know i should wait . BTW IYSS will replace AOW .

BTW IYSS will replace AOW . I don't think you're a sexist piggywig. ;D I think some of your observations about peoples' expectations are pretty sound. If you're used to a certain type of drama, it can be difficult to appreciate the older style. I watch a lot of dramas in my work and I try to take the Roger Ebert approach (Ken will recognize my argument here)--how good is this drama for what it IS? For instance, I don't judge a daily drama on the basis of a sageuk, and I don't judge older historicals on the basis of the more fantastical new guys. But I do try to rate entertainment value in every case. I do have to say that in many cases with the older dramas, the beginnings take longer to rope me in. I don't think this is a failing in the dramas, I think this is a failing in me and my cultural expectation. Many times, older K-dramas are building up steam to get to the "good stuff," long after the average American has switched them off to play Halo. Or whatever it is the kids are doing these days. ;D And now that I've re-read your above post, I see you SAY that. LOL. Sorry. I agree with you on that point, too. Bo
