I would count the Jang geum&Lady Han vs. Geum Young& Lady Choi Competition too as the most memorable scene. That's what got me at the end of my seat and cheering (voiceless, i'm watching jitp at the dead of the night when everybody else is asleep ;D). I also loved that scene because that's where good motives conquered the evil ones despite of all evil schemes *double evil here*, courage and strength of conviction and character will be polished amidst adversities. I agree with you on this. There are simply too many to quote aren't there?.. uk fan

UKFan -- you're an addict graduate now! Congrats. I am going to try to come up with a memorable scene that doesn't involve MJH.. I need a little time. Be back.

the most memorable scene for me is the Expose' on the Sulphur Duck Incident the 2nd memorable scene to me is when ... Jang Geum became an orphan. This scene kept me sobbing :'(all the time. After her mother died, she was alone feeling the guilt, pain and loneliness. Too much emotions came across my mind and too much for a little girl to bear. Just watch her eating the root (which look like a wood), it pains me a lot. the 3rd meaningful scene to me is when the family of MJH, JG and Shu Hyun left the palace and walking happily its like an end to all the misery , their perseverance was paid off and love conquered all. During this scene, MJH asked JG what the palace means to her and she said.... the palace gave her the chance to cook and practice medicine. It gave her an husband... but it also took away Lady Jung and Lady Han from her. the palace may be everything but actually , its a sad place. I Agreed.

Nice thread here =) Each of us finds different parts of DJG most memorable, and I think it is due to our different personalities and our own life experiences - that's something that has always put in in a very reflective mood. For me - there are so many scenes I to choose from - I can be quite certain that one of them is the scene where Lady Han and Jang Geum are in the prison after Lady Han had falsely confessed her responsibility in the sulphur duck incident to rescue JG from more torture.
You could see how JG was so drained and tired after people had tried to put her down so many times in life. It broke my heart. Then there was Lady Han, would told JG that she was not only Myeong-ee's daughter, but also her own - and which mother would put her own daughter in danger, knowing that the road ahead would only lead to death? She told JG that they were seedlings of flame that would one day ignite and illuminate the darkness. It was the epitome of love and faith. And it is true isn’t it,? That in the end power is transient, there’s nothing that can hold lies and greed, and only love and the truth will hold.
And we are also see those words were the driving force for JG for a long while – from her not wanting to give up as a government slave, to her surviving her years in Medicine. She wanted to re-ignite that flame for her mother and Lady Han., who basically represent the truth within the palace.
And it was almost unbearable. When they embraced this time, they were just embracing all the hope there was left. Just look at the tragedy of the Choi family and how they can never be content, and here are two characters who are in such a bad state, yet they have more power within them than the Chois can ever have. The palace presents such oppression. Then you can question why. Why was it oppressive? Why were the Chois are tragedy and why did Lady Han and JG have to embrace in a prison knowing they would have to say goodbye? People made it oppressive. That’s dramatic irony.
I liked the second competition too! Especially when Lady Han said that she knew the preferences of each of the Ladies, because they were all palace maids who had grown up together. It was especially moving after all that those other palace maids had put her through. They all looked unsettled when Lady Han said that. And subsequently Lady Han said she believed them and they all realised they respected her. She did not have to ‘win’ them over. And that’s probably the best a Top Lady can ever be. =D The way JG looked at Lady Han when the Queen announced that she had won was endearing too.
Besides that, I somehow remember very well the scenes when JG showed her faith in the Choi clan, from bringing back memories from their childhood days with KY and telling her that to hating someone is as difficult as loving someone, to offering the jar of vinegar to the Chois, to bringing Lady Choi to her mother’s grave and believing that she was actually apologising. As someone had mentioned in another thread, JG was not one of those who would hurt others in the process of revenge. All she wanted was to make known the truth.

Thank you Lifan for pointing it out to me, I had't noticed that before! I guess a trip to the pub this evening is in order... Hanbok: You have made some great choices there... I liked and yet did't liked the ending because this great drama series had come to an end. I felt a bit empty, and I guess all of us who keep on talking about it have one thing in common, we just let it go...can't we? This drama has a strange but pleasant and long lasting effect on all of us..perhaps this how we should define what a true classic should be! ;D Valeof tears: You have done it again! I can't do any of that; be analytical and descriptive like that Oh, where is my beer? uk fan

You picked an interesting scene, UKFan, Getting back to the topic, I would have to go with the 'Are you happy, I'm sad, are you sad? I'm happy' walk in the hills after JG passed her exam. It's the one that always brings a smile to my face when I hear it. hi, i still don't understand this 'Are you happy? I'm sad. Are you sad? I'm happy' dialogue... what does it means? why do they laugh... what are they saying actually.

hello. i know that we're only supposed to cite 3 scenes so i'll do my best to keep it to 3. on a very personal note, the death scene of Han Sang-Gung affected me a lot because my mother had passed away recently. it reminded me so much of my mother that i cry every time i see it. the same thing with Jung Sang-Gung's death. on topic, here are my 3 most memorable scenes: 1. the death of myeong-hee and the child Jang Geum feeding her berries. her mother's death forced Jang Geum to be mature and to think of survival, something that no child of perhaps 8 or 9 years old should ever think of. but that was her fate. 2. choi sang-goong's tears while recounting to keum young how she had killed her friend. i felt her true remorse then, and her regret at doing such a ghastly thing. i believe that was Lady Choi's one biggest regret in life. it was the spark that turned into a blazing fire, one that she thought she could prevent, but in the end, burned her and her entire clan along with it. ---------- i'd have to think hard about the 3rd scene! there are too many to choose from!

hi, i still don't understand this 'Are you happy? I'm sad. Are you sad? I'm happy' dialogue... what does it means? why do they laugh... what are they saying actually. Its a lovers dialogue. Jan geum is expressing her mixed feelings to Officer Min. But the answers came out like a tease and it doesnt suppose to mean anything. Its a love scene showing mutual understanding between them.

Hi. ukfan, definitely hit the pub. Have one on me. How do you get such large smiley faces? hb, new1, there are lots of meaning behind that simple dialog. It sounds like they are talking nonsense, but if you think about it, they are saying alot. " Are you happy? " "I am sad " MJH wants to know if JG is happy that she's passed the exam, which means she will be returning to the courts. JG thought about the court, some of the unhappy memories, about her mom, lady han all came back, and she replied 'I'm sad'. "Are you sad?" "I am happy" MJH is concerned although he does know why JG is sad. He wants her to sort out her feelings, so he asked her 'are you sad?". JG thinks about all that she's accomplished with the passing of the exam and she replies 'I am happy'. "Are you afraid?" "I am anxious" "You're anxious?" "I am afraid" They both know that their lives back at the courts will be full of obstacles and uncertainty, so they are afraid and at the same time anxious. In talking about it, and establishing all that understanding with so little words spoken, it cleared JG's anxiety somewhat and she knows with MJH by her side, she will be safe and so she is happy again and laughed. Then he laughed. sigh

1. choi vs. han cooking tournament
2. when JG and Min are away from the palace working together in a lower ranked place... does anyone remember? Min teases JG and acts coldly to her for a while.. i love it when JG acts so shyly towards him.. haha.
3. the three way love conflict scene with JG, Min and the king... (when the king and Min shoot arrows...)

Cheers, I think I need a beer myself, ukfan. Never underestimate the words of MJH. The writer took very great care with him.
djanggum, I like the archery competition scene also, it's so full of tension. Still working on my other 2 without MJH in it, it's hard.
