TheBo I wasn't that offended but I felt like I have to say something, I really don't know why, maybe my inner frustration... .... Sorry I added to your inner frustration, too. You know, sometimes you think you're being helpful, and later you find out you were just being a jerk. (Not you, meeeeeee.) LOL. Bo

Hi everyone!!! Haven't been able to come to this thread for soooo long!!! I've been really really busy and I didn't have time to follow up on any JJH news, even when Dong Yi aired its final episode... I missed JJH and everyone at this thread so much! ;D Anyway, I'm really hapy that the filming of Dong Yi was able to finish safely, and also received quite a good response... As for JJH news, he said he will be participating in a pottery exhibition in December, and he's planning on making/submitting about 30 works for the exhibition.. he's so talented! He also said he's planning on travelling alot with his family. His next movie, "On the road", will start filming in China in January or February next year. It's about a Korean doctor (JJH) who visits China after being hurt from love, and meets a Chinese woman on the train. The movie will be about their fateful love story. JJH said that there will be many scenes where his character takes photographs, and he said that the movie will actually use the photos that he takes (himself), and also use it for promoting the movie. And in pretty much every interview that Han Hyo Joo (Dong Yi) did after Dong Yi, she praised JJH so much.. here are some translations: "JJH is seriously the best. When I acted with him, I felt my life becoming so much easier and more comfortable. He's a cheerful, pleasant and refreshing person, who is always explicit (definite) about everything. I learnt his optimistic personality from him and now I've become a much more extrovert person. He was really my best acting partner ever." "I'm so thankful because JJH gave me so much support whenever I had a hard time physically or emotionally.. He always knew exactly how I felt, and made me laugh every time I had a hard time. He always made the filming atmosphere so enjoyable and lively for the staff and the other actors, so that I didn't need to do anything myself. I learnt so much from him, and I can even say that I had a better time with JJH than Lee Seung Ki (her partner in Shining Inheritance)." "I've never seen anyone so cool and humorous. He is so witty and always tries to be relaxed whatever happens. He has an ability to make people feel comfortable. This is not just because he is older than me, I feel that he is really awesome as a person. So I actually wanted to act many scenes with JJH, and I wanted him to make many NGs as well because his reactions after making NGs were so funny. He also loves his family so much. I didn't have an 'ideal type of guy' before, but now I can say that my ideal guy is a warm person like JJH." ;D ;D haha even Han Hyo Joo agrees JJH is so awesome!! ;D Actually the actress that acted Queen Inhyeon (Park Ha Sun) also said that JJH is her best acting partner ever and that he is also her ideal type of guy.. Here are some recent photos of JJH: Uploaded with ImageShack.us

What do you think of Dong Yi, djg?

Hi dramafreak Hmm... it really depends on whether you're asking me that question as a "JJH fan" or as an "ordinary" viewer. ;D If I had to evaluate the quality of the drama itself, Dong Yi had its weaknesses.. I think the greatest problem was with the writer eg. how Dong Yi failed to utilize supporting characters, the plot development feeling repetitive afterwards, and the story being different from actual history in certain respects etc.. personally I feel the biggest problem was that the plot itself was not really focused on Dong Yi's life, and so it was hard for viewers to empathize with Dong Yi and follow the story of the main character. For example, when she had to leave the palace (and had to be in hiding), the reason she had to come back was to save Queen In Hyeon (a supporting character), rather than to eg. take revenge for what happened to herself (like in Dae Jang Geum). But now that everything has ended I've decided not to blame Dong Yi's writer for anything, because she lacks experience in writing historical dramas and I have no doubt that she tried her best. It was also to do with the fact that the writer/director didn't really have time to improve on the script/plot, and there were also some incidents in the middle which prevented the storyline from going the way it was originally planned (eg. Choi Chul Ho no longer being able to act in Dong Yi, although he was going to be an important antagonist after Jang Hee Bin's death). And personally, there are lots of scenes in Dong Yi that I really really love that I know I'll never forget.. I also love the fact that (irrespective of what the historical truth was, which no-one knows for sure) the relationship between Suk Jong and Dong Yi was interpreted as one of an ordinary man and woman, rather than king and palace maid. That led to the creation of many memorable scenes, and made their love story more special. I usually tend to watch and form opinions on JJH's dramas as a "JJH fan".. ;D I like Dong Yi because JJH was able to be recognized once more (by both critics and the public) as an actor with a wide and flexible acting spectrum, and his image transformation was also successful. Suk Jong was a king character that no one had yet seen in Korean historical dramas, and so the unfamiliarity meant there was actually potential for much criticism, but JJH portrayed Suk Jong really well.. I've read many reviews where people have said that JJH has pioneered a new road and opened a new door for Korean historical dramas.. The greatest contributor to Dong Yi's popularity (especially at the beginning-middle of the drama when Dong Yi's popularity was at its peak and ratings were continuously rising) was undoubtedly King Suk Jong. Although it's unfortunate that ratings weren't as high as some of Director Lee's previous works, it still wasn't too bad and it was the most successful drama in MBC this year. On the other hand, Dong Yi was filmed on a very very tight schedule so the actors had no time to memorize the script or prepare for their acting.. I think all the actors in Dong Yi would have done even better if they had more time to prepare and analyze the script. The fact that they were always so busy meant none of the Dong Yi actors/staff could rest properly, and male actors sticking fake beards couldn't eat properly either (apparently the beard falls off really easily), and so JJH lost so much weight during Dong Yi.. If only they had more time to do everything.... Also, I know that JJH doesn't care whether he is the title role or not, but as a fan I couldn't stop thinking that if he had acted in another drama he would've had more screening time... (I want to see as much of JJH as possible! ;D lol) But obviously (like all JJH fans), I treasure every drama that he comes out in, and like JJH, I've decided to only remember the good things.. ;D It was the longest drama that JJH has filmed so far, so Dong Yi is really special. Also, JJH had heaps of fun filming the drama (Dong Yi team had amazing teamwork), and he learnt lots too. What more can I ask for? ;D

Considering that very little to nothing was known about the real Choi Sukbin other than being a musuri, Sukjong's concubine, and Yeongjo's mother, etc, I didn't really mind the fictionalization that much. I prefer to see some historicals as a metaphorical truth rather than literal truth. I like to view it like this. Enjoyable none the less because of the many wonderful and touching scenes. But i don't understand, not focusing on her life enough?
But yeah, you gotta love JJH as the king.
I wonder what his next role is going to be? Probably a contemporary

I actually tend to agree with you regarding fictionalization of history in dramas. I just wrote about it in my post because Dong Yi was criticized alot in that respect.. I think it comes from the concern that children and foreign viewers may believe that dramas portray the real history.. but really, after all, a drama is just a drama right? What I meant about the lack of focus on Dong Yi's life was that although Dong Yi undoubtedly had the most screening time, the storyline itself should've focused more on "Dong Yi" (or really Choi Suk Bin)'s own life.. her 'life' always seemed to involve solving problems for others in some way or another.. Anyway, as I said, I really like Dong Yi.. There are so many scenes that I really really really love.. ;D As I wrote on my Nov 5 post, his next role is of a Korean man in a Chinese (contemporary) romance movie. JJH has been preparing for this movie for a year now, so I'm really looking forward to it! I'm actually really hoping that he films a contemporary drama next year as well.. ;D

I've been finding Korean actors in CHinese movies lately. Jang Dong-gun in The Promise, Kim Hee-sun in The Myth. KDramas are so popular in Asia, the Chinese are starting to import actors from Korea, eh? Not that its a bad thing

I've only watched one or two eps so far, but actually, I kind of agree with DJG. So far, she seems to be a Jang-geum type character, a kind of girl detective. But like I said, I'm only up to her childhood so far. And this makes sense in light of what dramafreak says, because both historical characters (J-G and Dong-yi) are not that well documented.
