Thanks to DYC and Ken junior addict, I have looking for "The Path" for a long while. This clarifies a couple of things. Yet it has not lead me to finding anyone with the The Path of the New Dynasty. I had no idea it had so many titles. Now that Dong Yi has went into PI work full time. What do you think about resurrecting this DinoSageuk. Surely someone in the Windy City has seen the film...Daewangui gil (1998)

Spoilers ahead if you're not caught up yet..................... . . . . . . . The ending – At the end of Episode 59 I just rolled my eyes and thought, Oh, great. Another “I am unworthy/I am bad luck/ I am inconvenient/ if I stay here the world will come to an end; therefore I am going to make a great sacrifice and walk out on you so we can both be miserable for the rest of our lives” excuse to have an unhappy ending. Fortunately things turned out better than that. This was about as happy an ending as we are likely to get in any of these dramas.
There was one thing I didn’t get, and that had to do with a couple of scenes where the lady investigators seemed to be accusing palace maids of poisoning the water of the guards. Huh? What did I miss here? Can someone explain how this fit in with the military governor’s plot?
Episode 60 – I thought this one had a really split personality. Does anyone agree? It seems like 5 or 6 writers each wrote a different ending, then the head writer took bits from each of them and stuck them together. We get the tearful departure from the palace, an entire plot (literally) of apparent tax evasion involving slave owners, Dong Yi and the king out on the town, a kidnapping plot that kind of had a middle but no beginning or end (I guess the writers thought it would be cute for Dong Yi to climb up on the king’s back one more time), then a time jump to the coronation of Prince Yeomming, then young Dong Yi and her father (or their reincarnation, hard to tell what the intent was there). Too much of not enough. I guess I would have preferred more of the historical events – the king’s death, Dong Yi’s death, coronation of the Crown Prince, his death, coronation of Yeomming.
So where does this show fit in with all the others? This show, being primarily a cute love story, falls into the Fluffy category (like Ballad of Seodong) as opposed to more serious he-man chest-thumping warrior shows like Dae Jo Young.
It was very, very entertaining at times, but there were also long stretches where it was really boring, like it was being dragged out and padded. Given that the main plot involved the machinations and downfall of Hee Bin, the show took too long to tell that story.
Music – pretty good without too much sappy music.
Love story – again pretty good, without too much pining and sighing and no irritating love triangle.
Comic relief – way too many comic relief characters. What were the writers thinking? “This show is just for fun, so let’s waste a lot of air time showing lots of stupid people doing stupid things”?
Awards Time:
Most Wasted Actor – Choi Chul Ho. Why give him the role of a minor character who could as easily have been played by anyone? Why not have him play Chun Soo or Evil Brother Jang instead?
Most Annoying Character – this is a tough one since there were so many nominees to choose from. I have to give the award to the entire Idiot Family.
Best Comic Relief – no winner.
The Prince Charming Award goes to the King. He sure knows how to party, but can he govern?
Of course, the Cinderella Award goes to Dong Yi, as do the Nancy Drew and Pollyanna Awards.
The DJY Mugging Award goes to the director who, as in DJY, insisted on drawing out too many scenes by lingering on an actor’s face. I noticed this more in the later episodes.
The Most Over-Used Camera Shot Award goes to all the times an actor (usually Dong Yi) sighed and said “Chonaaaaaaa”.
The Let’s Go for a Swim Award goes to Chun Soo.
The Pepsident Award goes to the King for his pearly whites.
The Magic Hat of Invisibility Award goes to Gaedura. In a historical drama all you have to do is put a big hat on and presto! No one notices you. And in the same vein…
The Little Red Riding Hood Award goes to all the women who think that if they put something over their head, no one will notice them. Nothing screams “Look at me! Look at me!” like a woman scurrying around after dark with her jacket pulled over her head.
The Now You See Him, Now You Don’t Award goes to Gaedura. Considering the build-up he got, lurking in the shadows in his Magic Hat, the amount of time devoted to his plot line was pitifully short. We didn’t even get to see him tragically executed.
The Einstein Award goes to Queen #3 for using her noodle, and not letting Evil Military Governor push her around.
Most Photogenic Actor – Chief Suh (I really love this guy).
Cutest Character – the King’s attendant (what, you were expecting the kid to get this one?)
Best Nicknames – Bean Sprout and Dimwit
Best Chemistry – the king and Dong Yi. They really were fun to watch when they were having fun.
Most Gratuitous Death – no nominees, thank goodness.
The casting director gets an award for choosing the actors who played Dong Yi as a child and Ding Yi’s son. They were very effective without being sappy or cutesy.
Overall this show gets a B-. It was lots of fun watching Dong Yi and the king, and it had some great detective story plotlines and plots, but this show loses points for having the worst use of comic relief I’ve ever seen in one of these historicals.
So………what to watch next?

So where is it on your favorite list? And yes, I expected the kid to have the cutest character award. Han HYo Joo, the actress for Dong Yi, once said that he's so cute she wanted to take him home and raise him herself

I'm watching Sungkyunkwan Scandal at the moment. Story is akin to Butterfly Lovers minus the tragedy I should think. The actress as Kim Yoon-shik is steadily annoying the !!! out of me. She's no MGY but I'll take it in stride since it's suppose to be a comedy but I'm not fnding much HaHas. ;D She's too feminine and all the scholars at the academy need to have their eyes checked. Gisaengs included!!! Still, I'm hanging on for the story because I find the Jeongjo in this one rather like a fluffy lovable but interesting bear. He also needs his eyesight checked but I'm not surprised he's wearing large glasses and rollin cigarettes ... I think that's what he's doing anyways. P.S. Has anyone watched The Reputable Family?

OT I know but... You chaps have seen more sageuk than me so lemme ask if there is any comedy sageuk in existence. ;D It just occurred to me while I was ruminating on jokes earlier. ... There is one now. Sort of, my video review of the extended Dong Yi: Well, there was one - I guess my next essay will be about how copyright laws stifle creativity. My video got pulled already, despite being "fair use" as parody. Hope some of you got to see it ... and got the joke. Not everyone did.

Really? Is this your idea of a joke? All you just posted was one of the many moments in the series that was worth watching.
And am I the only one who felt that the extension didn't hurt the series at all? I feel it lost steam, but that was mainly because there wasn't as much detective work from Dong Yi as in the previous episodes

Actually, it IS my idea of a joke - you didn't read the very heavily edited subtitles very carefully. And it was done with affection. I liked the show, but I did feel the extension hurt it a lot. It could have been as good as Yi San and it really wasn't it, but I liked it.

tieba.baidu.com/f?kz=915242615SOmeone did a photo edit linking Dong Yi with Yi Sanm there is also a video Merging of footage of Yi San & Dong Yi on Yeongjo’s memories of his mother Dong Yi has a shocked look on her face when she sees Yeongjo. Yeongjo: Mother! I have become the king! I wonder what the characters reactions will be if they saw him lock his son in a rice chest from the afterlife. Shock and horror. If there's one thing that Dong Yi was able to surpass Yi San on, it was the Sukjong x Dong Yi romance. Yeah, that's right. I think their chemistry was far superior, mostly because when they interact, they display much more personality.

The extension was more of a fond but lengthy epilogue. ;D Meandering / relax way of saying bye, to fav chars. That's imho anyways. ^^ OT : if Chosun Police Season 3 (period drama) comes your way, I heartily recommend it! The CSI filming style might grate (it does for me) a little but the stories are well written. It's set in the late 19th century, around 1897 so there're a few modern stuff in there. A bicycle for one. hehe. And newspapers, photos, etc.

Its a rare thing a korean drama that lasted more than one season , I have seen the first two seasons for sale on Chinese DVD ,no subs though.
Sungkyunkwan Scandal is getting pretty good ,it also gets into Sedo's demise in the grainbox.

I've not seen Chosun Police S1 & 2. Wonder if they're good but they must be. CP3 videos are all hosted at Viikii's. A pity because a plug-in is needed and even if that is installed, no gaurantee there's anything to watch (according to my niece). So I did manage to watch up to ep 7 before I was suddenly cut off by this need for a plug-in which I don't want to bother with. I'm sorry I will miss the rest of the eps but shucks, I won't go the mile for a plug-in. Sungkyunkwan Scandal is getting pretty good ,it also gets into Sedo's demise in the grainbox. I quit on this show because I kept comparing the YS actress to the YB actress, and the former falls badly. Granted, it's unfair but any actor trying gender-bender inevitably gets that weigh-in factor against someone who has already scored A+. It's inevitable when Jeongjo is featured. prince Sado's demise is always brought up. There's no separating these two.
