I didn't realize that Chun Soo was a real historical figure. Was he really her brother, or was it the same kind of adoptive relationship as in the show? As far back as I can see he was a true historical figure, here is some info: 20-55 years old, New leader of Hanyang Gumgae, which is secret swordsman organization. He worked as corpse inspector during the day and acted as a key member of Gumgae, whose purpose was cleaning the governmental disorder during the night. Though he is in low class person, he has academic ability and can use sword very well. I will research more and bring them to you, now I'm intrigued...

^ That is interesting, Grayson. I would be keen to know too. I'm just waiting for this series to end before I buy the video (that is when the price is deemed reasonable ). Is there such an org as Gumgae??? OT : I finally got around to watching Miindo. Between the drama and the movie, I'd take the drama. The movie just takes too many liberties and it need not necessarily have to use Shin Yun-bok at all. My sympathies to the real Shin Yun-bok. ;D

Griffin! There was such an organization; Dong Yi father and brother was involved in a secret organisation called Geumgae, in fact the leader of Geumgae is Choi Hyo Won himself. But Geumgae is not a rebel organization, Geumgae is just an organization to help lowly class people who treated unfair or injustice, for instance, lower class people are used to be made as scapegoats and the nobles just sent them as slaves. The Geumgae organization help them escaped and provided some protection, like Robin Hood. Cha Chun Soo was Dong Yi's brother friend they are not blood related, thou when Dong Yi was younger she promised to marry him, he kept that close to his heart , but as you know she fell in love with Sukjong.

That is interesting. So this org must have been in existence when slaves were prevalent. But did it still exist in Jeongjo's reign? (It is a stupid question I know but I'd like to know if the org's function actually changed to something else or did it totally vanish) The nobi jongmobeop was further reduced during Yeongjo's time by the growing number of marriages between yangin and nobi which effectively removed the status of nobi from their children. The number of yangbans and yangin greatly increased. In 1894, the nobi system came to an end. There are cases however, of yangin who sold themselves into servitude in the 19th century due to poverty but I don't think their status changed. Sry for the blather.

Griffin: There was an organization but not this one. I had to ask someone for advice because I could not find any info, but my friend said they had organizations but not that extreme. This is her answer... Geumgae is conjure from the scriptwriter’s imagination to set up something for Choi Dong Yi’s past, therefore historically doesn’t exist

Ah! So it's like a smuggling org then, they did what they could but no outright swishbuckling. ;D I started on the first 4 eps of DY. I have to admit I jumped tho when I find the pace too slow to my liking. I jumped to ep 28 then 29. ;D Maybe I'll watch it a bit more "properly" when I get the dvds. Thanks for the input Grayson. ^^ P.S. I don't quite understand why the King's working study has table and chairs. I thought they sat on the floor all the time??? But I see chairs and tables every where in the official departments. P.S. 2 I just realised that the emoticons on their faces are pretty much ... cookie sets. O.o P.S. 3 I'm afraid I don't really understand the mental state of personal court attendants. They knew their charge is as black as soot and yet they lamented over the injustice of the punishment meted out. Meh??? O.O P.S. 5 It's gotten to the point where I can't even watch anything. The d/l speed dragged into a snail that one ep = 2 hours now. Peak traffic I guess. On an offnote, there's some friggin new period drama entitled Joseon X-Files. Cool .... I'd expect to see "Dana Scully" & "Fox Muldur" flying in gat, jeogori, baji, jipsin and totting bells and gongs.

Joseon X Files ...i know there is a series called Joseon Police on either MBC or SBS now Joseon X Files ,next up Joseon 5 0 ,Joseon PD Blue Hanbok ,Well Joseon CSI was pretty much done with Conspiracy In The Court .
Anyway Sukjong was also the Evil King in Jang Gil San and Chuno/Slave Hunters the later was just rebroadcast in a new 160 min film version (for Europe )which considering ,it was trimmed of some 22 hours was not too bad ,it benefited from losing a lot of the side stories ,though no explanation was given for why Sukjong wanted to kill the Royal Grandson ,on a better note Daegils sidekicks were left dead ,the hanging of Daegil was gone as was the Slave Uprising ,The Tavern where they hung out ,The Bandit Village and the young prostitute ,sure the full version is better but i enjoyed the 160 min version a lot . I just bought these up because of the depiction of Sukjong ,in Jang Gil San he is a weak king dominated by the Jang family in Chuno he is a paranoid who wants to eradicate his heirs to prolong his own reign while the country suffers .

If you look back into tha Anal of Korean history, Sukjong was not a bad king, those are interpretation the writers, directors. Correct me if I'm wrong... yes, the Jang and the Soron had a tight hold on Sukjong, but he handled them well, with the exception of his son.

You got the wrong king in Chuno. The king is Injo, not Sukjong.
And Grayson, about Chun-soo being based off a real person, what's your source?

I don't think that cameras were in existence at the time she lived. I would also like to see what the REAL DONG YI looked like - I hope someone can find that drama and giver us a link to it.
