116 Yerin: "Do you know how hard I worked for this?" shutupshutupshutupshutupshutupshutupshutupshutupshutupshutupshutupshutupshutupshutupshutupshutupshutupshutupshutupshutupshutupshutupshutupshutupshutup Jeonghyo: "You're a bigger man than I am." Dude, after you willingly went into that shoe store I think pretty much anybody's a bigger man than you are. (Gonna be a long time before I let you off the hook for that one.) "Who comes in later than the boss?" Ummm...let's see...anybody the boss doesn't tell when to come in? You really are a lousy boss, Sara Kim. But at least you're dressed well today. Your best day yet. A lot to redeem yourself for but the trend has been good. Wonder what the explanation is? Uh-oh...you don't suppose they're trying to soften her edges to make her more palatable when they pair her up with Baker Dad? Oh please no. Good for Yongdeok for getting out of there; everybody's entitled to some basic human dignity. You know, Yongdeok, if I were you I'd grab the nearest fire extinguisher before I left and give Sara a few good long blasts with it. We'll all take up a collection and pay your bail. How sweet that would be. "Movies succeed on their plots and planning." No, Jaeseong, movies succeed on their directing. Stay out of dad's business, okay? Oh, and look at this now: Jaeseong knows Seyeong won the competition, and knows she's giving him and Yerin a free do-over--and he's taking it? Seriously? If I were you, pal, I'd never accept that. Have some pride and concede this one. I guess Jeonghyo's a bigger man than YOU are at least. "Wifey" Donguk, what happened to "Fool"? Especially after she dumped you, you didn't change it back? Come on, that was funny! "Your rich mom ruined my dad's career." Uh, Gieun, she may have bought the place but she didn't put him in all that debt to begin with. "I'm not the old Gieun you used to know." Heavenly Father, on this miraculous day we humbly give thanks and remind ourselves that thou dost hear our prayers and will ease our intense suffering. Alleluia! That micro-stair thing Sara Kim is "exercising" on--does anybody actually use that kind of a gizmo? Can't imagine it gives much exercise except maybe for the shin muscles. And now Baker Dad is acting like a complete damned idiot. This is utterly painful to watch. Anybody remember when we had nothing but respect for the guy? It wasn't that long ago. "The noodles have to be sliced very thin. Are you good with the knife?" Misuk, take a look at that onion scene from two episodes ago. That poor onion...But no worries, by the time she goes completely bonkers and hacks up your son in his sleep, she'll take out his beating heart with the skill of a surgeon. "This is a tape of the birthday meal program." Uh, Seyeong, that's a CD. Yikes. Wow, plain chopped carrots! They're so good! What a great cook you are, Seyeong! These people are way too easy to impress. I guess that explains the entire show segment with Seyeong making lemonade. I was laughing so hard when Yerin pulled out that tupperware bowl full of hacked-up tofu or whatever that was...my sister had a Play-Doh set when she was a kid and the thing grew Play-Doh hair out of little people's heads and Yerin's stuff looks a lot like that. Just for that one scene you could almost enjoy her for being so clueless. And then the Monster Girl stuff comes right back. Heaven forbid she should be anything besides Monster Girl. And now what is this with the Misuk/Yerin lovefest? Where did this come from all of a sudden? What--all of those executives have nothing better to do than watch people chop food for two hours? Two hours? How does this network stay solvent? Coming up at 9 p.m. on the BCK Network: It's "Reality Plate Tectonics." We follow those battling continental landmasses as they fight for position! Two inches a year, and you see it all here live! I guess we're supposed to be all upset about Seyeong's wrist and all angry with Yerin, but I'm so sick of it, over and over. How can we even care any more. Besides, we know what's going to happen here. Remember where Jeonghyo was working when we first met him? P.S. Seyeong is holding the knife with her right wrist--but she threw that tape into the river with her left hand. Hmmm...something's not right here.

BORRRRR--ING...BORRRRR-ING...And come on, Jeonghyo, you used to work at a restaurant. You should be flying with that knife. What the heck--where's that continuity I keep asking for?
"Seyeong should have taken better care of herself before the competition." Hey Mister Executive--how do you make a judgment like that without getting the facts? What a total ignoramus. You should go run a vacuum cleaner company because you suck!
Good for you Jaeseong--you were willing to open your eyes and you saw the truth. And you busted her on it. Now do the right thing and give up the show.
It does look like Baker Dad has dropped a few pounds.
Grandma, I understand you're looking out for your son, but you've lost your mind. Even disrespecting PSBmom, not cool. And good grief, have you no shame--you're acting like you're trying to mate pandas.
Oh and talk about somebody losing their mind...Go get help, Donguk. "I don't think I can live without her." Go get the in-patient kind. "Don't you remember what I did to you?" Gieun, of course he remembers, he just needs the treatment. "Why are you being so stupid?" I just told you. Geez, Donguk, look how messed-up you are: Gieun called you stupid. Think about that. You've just climbed the Mount Everest of stupidity. "You're supposed to be a man. You can't even get your act together!" For once, Sara Kim, I agree with you. "Maybe she'll love him all the more." Stop it, Baker Dad, just stop it. "I won't let my daughter date him." Way to go, Misuk, keep it up. And now we're right back to Gieun being grounded in her room. Again. Sara Kim and Misuk are the only ones talking sense? This must be some kind of computer trickery where they take the digital recording and reverse all the binary code so black is white and up is down.
"Life begins at 60"? Hey you announcers, don't take that lightly. The seniors deserve a nice show to watch too. Not cool. And they're hardcore viewers of that kind of stuff, so that's actually a decent opportunity.
"I wanted to give the program to Seyeong to thank her, but there's a limit to what I can do." No problem, CEOdad, we understand completely. It's not like you're the freakin' CEO or anything. Ugh.
That was a good scene with Jeonghyo and CEOdad. Real interesting back-and-forth there. But CEOdad went to Seyeong for advice beforehand and the thing ended with Jeonghyo walking out on him. Whatever she suggested, oops gag ack choke.
Seyeong got invited to the wedding. (Aw come on, you all wondered, admit it.)
The Hans put their house up for sale? Wow that's rough. But if they have to downsize to get back on their feet better financially, then good for them for not hesitating. Still, it's a little surprising they haven't paid the thing off by now.
"How will you marry me if you don't trust me? Maybe we should call off the wedding." Wow Yerin you totally overplayed that hand. "He won't cancel the wedding now. He would never do that." Sure, it's not like he's backed off a marriage commitment in the past six months to anybody you know. Boy, you are even dumber than Seyeong has been lately. That's quite an accomplishment. Say hi to Donguk at the summit.
Hey, I recognize that look in Jaeseong's face. It's the face of a man who knows he's doomed. Dive, Jaeseong! Dive! Flood the tanks! Sound the claxon! Down periscope!
Nice wedding dress, Yerin (doggone it, I almost made it through an entire episode without getting dragged into that)...but maybe don't cut the tag off it just yet...Wait a minute, could this be it...is this the start of the hammer dropping? Maybe! Time to start giving the people what they want. Ordinarily, of course she'd just grovel her way out of this one like she's done over and over and over...but there are only eighteen episodes left and you have to think--even with the bad direction this show's gone in for so long--that she has to start paying the price for all of it.

Hey look, Yerin's wearing black-and-white stripes. Between that and the orange chain-gang vest, she's all set for prison!
Was that a little shoulder-bump Jaeseong gave her when he walked away? It wasn't intentional but what a nice piece of irony.
Yeah, it sure looks hot in that sauna...maybe a blistering 72. Come on, guys, don't even bother with a scene like that. Very silly.
I guess it couldn't last, could it, Sara. Today you're wearing somebody's tablecloth.
"A woman should have curves like me." A woman should have brains too, Sara...noticed you didn't go there!
"I rushed into this." Yes you did, Jaeseong...and Mrs. Kim, you know he rushed into this so why are you snapping at him like that? Not exactly news. And the wedding is just days away? Seriously? Who sends out their invitations just days before the wedding? Dumb writing.
Throwing a bowl of powdered sugar? Is that supposed to be funny? Note to writers: it's funny when somebody sneezes in it like the Three Stooges do. It's not funny when an annoying character gets in a snit and throws it.
"Is this because of you?" Gee, Mrs. Kim, what do you think? You actually think Yerin might not be the reason for it? Have you not been paying attention for 117 episodes? Sheesh.
But to be fair here, Jaeseong you need to start spilling it. As in, specifics, even if it makes Yerin look bad. You're trying to be compassionate and I can appreciate that, but the time for that has passed. Not helping anybody here by hiding the truth. Particularly Yerin. Lay it all out, all the questionable episodes and then you're off the hook entirely.
Misuk: "I think I raised my children wrong." Well, you're half right.
CEOdad--brown shoes with the gray suit? Why do these people keep doing this stuff?
This episode was pretty conventional. Even with the hair-pulling catfight and the surprise-you're-marrying me. The whole thing about the arranged marriage falling apart, I'm guessing it's a requirement for one of these dailies? But at least things are moving along again, so thank goodness for that. So I guess the big question now is where Yerin will end up--general prison population or psychiatric unit? Or depending on what she does when she finally loses it completely, maybe even solitary confinement?
P.S. The problem wasn't that he went into the shoe store. Lots of guys do that, just to wait patiently. It was the enthusiasm for it. He was so into the whole shopping experience, even helping her try them on. Maybe he has a foot fetish?

Not only a needed subtitle correction, but photographic evidence of a woman wearing a tablecloth. A nice one--very fancy trimwork on the edges--but a tablecloth nonetheless.

"She [Gieun] looks like a squashed bun."
Now, I'm someone who thinks that Gieun has richly earned the annoying-person-of-the-year award, but, seriously, what the heck is THAT supposed to mean?
And yeah, she's skinny, but to say that Gieun doesn't have any curves only suggests that Sara Kim should get her eyes checked (and no, I still wouldn't marry her. All the curves in the world become meaningless if you don't have any freaking brains).
But, the biggest irritant lately is Misuk, the one person who (until a few episodes ago) seemed to have Yerin all figured out. Now, all of a sudden she's become president of the I Love Yerin Fan Club. A completely inexplicable reversal.

Maybe in her face? Because it's a little flatter and less tall? I don't know...which is why I passed on that line. Didn't make sense to me either. And the curves thing, didn't get that either because I assumed Gieun had a boob job. Or am I wrong about that....
The thing that I keep wondering about Misuk, and forgetting to mention here, is whether or not anybody told her that Yerin stole the jade ring. Misuk doesn't know about that, does she? Jaeseong knows because Ilyeong told him, but I don't think it ever got as far as the parents. But who knows, maybe she just became so relieved that her son was getting married that she decided to suck it up and accept her. And I'm sure Yerin's kissing up to her didn't hurt either.

Hey! You four coworkers! Stop gossiping like a bunch of old hens. Nari, you let me down again.
Not exactly a romantic proposal, was it...but way to show some spine, Jeonghyo. Now what happens?
Wait, did Mrs. Kim just fire both her daughters? She did say "get out of this network" but was that just a mistranslation? Actually that would make for a good storyline.
Seyeong, for once would you please speak up and tell the truth about what happened? You're sitting there apologizing and it's ridiculous.
Once again, manly advice given by a guy in a pink shirt. But CEOdad is right on target with his son. Jeonghyo said he wanted to protect her, he needs to have authority to be able to protect her--take the staff job already! Sheesh. It's not rocket science.
"You're obsessed over him!" DING! Score one for Mrs. Kim...and it only took, what, twenty years to figure that out? He doesn't love you..."I can make him love me!" Hey Yerin, Jerry Springer show on line one....
Jaeseong, you are totally pissing me off. Start explaining exactly what's wrong with her. Hey, if she gets lots of therapy for a long time, maybe she's fixable. Behavior is hard to change but not impossible. Wouldn't you want that? Worth a try.
Geez, Donguk, you really are being a jackass. Your mom reached out and made an effort, imperfect as it was. At least be civil. I think Baker Dad needs to give him a good slap like he slapped Jaeseong that one time.
Yongdeok, you're really going to take that job? Capital or no capital, why would you want to work for that woman again? Better make yourself a darned good deal. And get it in writing. But Sara Kim, why would you want to hire the guy who had just run the company into the ground? I can see why you didn't talk about brains yesterday. Wow, that looks like a really snooty place Seyeong and CEOdad are eating at. Seyeong, make sure you lift your pinkies.
Well how about that. She actually is going to marry him. At least for now she is. I'll be darned. Have to give the show big-time credit here. I was sure they wouldn't have the courage to turn it in that direction. How about that. And I think the viewers will find it a satisfying ending if it sticks. And they make a good couple. It will take time but they seem right for each other. Am a little less frustrated with the show after this. Very nice.
Baker Dad with the neon jacket again. Not a good look, dude. But look at this--he's helping Sara Kim get all liquored up? Hmmm...and now she's smiling at him. And he brings her home...and liquors her up some more. Does he understand what he's doing? If it were any other guy I'd suspect him of knowing exactly what he's doing.
Uh-oh, look at bridezilla in the driver's seat...Yerin's totally lost it...wokka wokka wokka. "I don't know what I might do!" Why don't we find out, Yerin? Let's call it your contribution to behavioral science research.
Jaeseong, all I have to say is, you'd better have two orderlies and a straitjacket in the back seat of your car. And a restraining order in your suitcoat pocket. Otherwise you've shot past everybody else to reach spectacular new heights of stupidity never before thought possible by man. And then the orderlies can put the straitjacket on YOU and take you away and Yerin will come see you during visiting hours. Or wait, maybe you can get adjoining rooms!
P.S. Although...You know what, if he marries her right now and brings her into all that head-family stuff...he can start bossing her around. Make her quit work--his dad made his mom quit--and make her get help and make her apologize for all the crap she's pulled and undo the damage she's done...hmmm...that might actually work! Is this what he's thinking? Wow...all it takes is for him to have the spine to do it...and what am I saying. Never mind.

"Why did you come here?" The better question, Yerin, is "Why did you come here in formal wear?" Does he wear that stuff around the house on his day off? "Jaeseong, the bathroom tile needs grouting." "Okay, dad, just let me put on my tuxedo." Whatever floats your boat, dude...Or maybe he's trying to atone for everybody else's wardrobe crimes...in which case we thank him for the gesture...but more importantly, he didn't go there to marry her so he's not completely bereft of his senses.
"She was almost out of her mind." Yeonga's right again, Mrs. Kim, don't bite her head off. In fact, she's always right. Maybe you should just step back and let her handle Yerin. Then we'd get some results.
"Yerin and Jaeseong work at the same network. I can't have that." Now wait a minute, Mrs. Kim--you were the one telling Seyeong about the need to keep personal stuff out of work. And now you're going to browbeat Jaeseong out of the company?
"Yerin must have a problem of some kind and that's why he called this off." Very nice, Misuk. "People get divorced, too." VERY nice, Misuk--because where is MISTER Kim in all this? Mrs. Kim better stop getting snotty about what's happened here. She's hardly one to talk. Boy, she is wrong all over the place today. If she were a goalie the coach would have pulled her by now.
Hey, look at PSBmom! She looks great. Better than we've ever seen her looking. But stop screaming at Mrs. Kim already. Yerin totally spurned you and you disconnected from her and now you're all bent out of shape about her? Bad writing there.
"You need to work harder to catch up to Yerin so you can become her equal." Oh that's great advice, Mrs. Kim--just what Yerin needs to completely snap for good. You really don't have a clue.
Lightning strike me dead but yeah, for once I agree with you, Gieun. I made the same face. And how about that--Baker Dad DID know exactly what he was doing. Sort of. But now it's obvious that he needs the same inpatient treatment that Donguk needs. When did he fall and hit his head and lose his mind? I've watched carefully, I don't remember seeing that scene. This whole storyline is just so awful, watching this respected character mangled for the sake of I don't know what, you almost have to turn away from the screen.
"What's wrong with me?" Okay, Sara, you want it alphabetically or in order of importance? Unfortunately, only fifteen episodes left so we can't cover all of it. Hey, both of you guys--eat your meat! Somebody even cut it for you already. Wussy-boys.
Uh-oh, here comes Mister Executive to suck up. He doesn't suck at sucking up, does he.
"You gave me the same advice when I met my mom. You said I shouldn't be so mean to her." Nice to see Seyeong scolding Jeonghyo about this, because he's being a total hypocrite. Early in the series he kept trying to get Yerin and Seyeong to get close to their bio-parents.
"You must not think Jeonghyo's suitable for her." CEOdad, I'm sorry but that's a really lousy thing to do to Mrs. Kim. Trying to bait her into criticizing your son like that. How do you think she'll feel about you when she learns the truth? Think she'll trust you as a boss? Pretty stupid.
Jaeseong, you broke off the wedding and now you took Yerin to the seaside? Don't you remember the last time Yerin got close to water? And now look at this, sure enough....Does ANYBODY in this show have any brains left? And stop saying you're sorry and start telling her what the problem is! Sheesh.
P.S. And Jaeseong you should have gotten that jade ring back before she threw it...like a girl.

From 119 Seyeong is an announcer. Jeonghyo is the CEO's son. They're a match made in Millionaire Matchmaker heaven. I should have made the connection sooner. For those that don't know what I mean, Korea has a pattern of female announcers marrying into wealthy families. Probably because she's nuts.

Probably? Seyeong is an announcer. Jeonghyo is the CEO's son. They're a match made in Millionaire Matchmaker heaven. I should have made the connection sooner. For those that don't know what I mean, Korea has a pattern of female announcers marrying into wealthy families. I did not know that; thank you. Have been wondering whether or not CEOdad was always part of the plan, or whether they created the character for extra material when the series was extended for fifteen episodes. What you're saying now suggests he was always part of the plan. But either way, it's sort of disappointing. If the series had ended with Seyeong being a good announcer and Jeonghyo being a good producer and the two of them happy together, what would be so wrong with that? Did they have to turn him into suddenly wealthy son and heir to the company? Just feels too Boys-Over-Flowers-ish. We'll see how it actually ends so I won't rush to judgment, but the character's appeal was always that he came from such difficult origins and turned out to be a good person and made something respectable of himself. We're starting to lose some of that with his I-hate-my-rich-daddy attitude.

Once I made the connection, I went back and looked at some of your posts. I think it was all planned from the start. The theme of the announcer and CEO's son (twice) is too much of a coincidence for me. I believe the writer is attempting to be ironic with Seyeong's relationships to Jaeseong and now Jeonghyo. She went from the CEO's son who lost everything to the CEO's son who could gain everything. There's also a changing of the guard. Seyeong was expected to quit her job if she married into Jaeseong's family, just like his mom did. Jeonghyo's dad seems open to Seyeong continuing to work as an announcer. That's what I took from their conversation in 119. So, she gets the rich guy and keeps her job. All the extension got us was more of Yerin's evil schemes and silliness from everyone else.

I hadn't thought much about that, but what interesting points. For, it seems that nearly every Korean drama (ordinary contemporaries, as well as dailies) is so often a variation on the "Cinderella Story:" sweet but poor girl somehow manages to meet up with a rich boy. The rich boy's family disapproves of him marrying outside of his class, but in the end the family realizes how nice the girl is, and they marry and live happily ever after.
Seyeong's not really rich, but her bio mom is certainly well-to-do, and she clearly wants her to (at the very least) marry within her class. So, how convenient for CEO Dad to pop up out of nowhere, just so that Seyeong can appropriately "marry up."
Really a bummer. How great it might have been, indeed, to have a nice girl like Seyeong end up marrying a nice, honorable, hard-working (but poor) man and have them live happily ever after.
Too much to ask, I guess.
