AAAAAAAA-HAHAHAHA! Mister Executive gets absolutely dusted by the new guy. What a brutal cold shoulder. How can you not love that. I had to go on YouTube and replay that one. And of course he deserves it for pitching the stolen story. Have to say, the new guy has certainly injected some life into this thing. And he's one heck of a sharp dresser.
This semester: Be Careful What You Wish For 101. Geez, Yerin, don't look so shocked that you have to get the groceries and cook. What do you think life will be like after you marry into that family? Wake up and smell the kimchi. Although, when it gets to the point of having to shave a pig foot and pluck hairs, yeah that's tough for a rookie. Shame on you, Misuk. No wonder she calls you an old raccoon and is plotting to get out.
"I'll begin by bribing them!" Can I tell you how to end? goawaygoawaygoawaygoawaygoawaygoawaygoawaygoawaygoawaygoawaygoawaygoawaygoawaygoawaygoawaygoawaygoawaygoawaygoawaygoawaygoawaygoawaygoaway
Wow, talk about a cold shoulder, the granddaughter totally dusted Gieun, didn't she. Nice going kid.
"Chuseok" must be Korean for "Idiot Women Bearing Gifts."
Well look at that--a nice plain red dress. And a white hat that doesn't look awful. Sara Kim's having an off day, isn't she. But now grandma wants to put an apron over her? Aw come on, grandma, the one day she looks nice and you're hiding it.
"No one was born making dumplings." That may be the strangest line in the history of Korean drama. The Korean equivalent of "That's the banjo player's Porsche."
That little move where she puts on the apron and then has to pull the pearl necklace out from behind it, for some reason that cracked me up.
Come on, Seyeong, just knock their heads together Three Stooges-style. Maybe it'll do some good.
At least they got rid of that awful closing music. Yecch.
P.S. Why do we keep getting such heavy doses of Gieun? Does anybody out there know? I don't get the impression the series was planned this way. Has she gotten good press or Internet buzz or some such thing as the series has gone on? Maybe the Korean audience thinks she's funny? Some cultural difference that I'm not in on? Really, if anybody has any insight I'd sure appreciate it.

So Yeonga and Minguk came over, and Jeonghyo, and now they're all delivering holiday food to shut-ins. Another nice scene. That's two in three days. Let's have some more of these please, especially if Yerin is going to keep making people miserable.
Wow, be careful Seyeong--don't get hurt by any of those obviously empty boxes!
Look at Misuk busting Yerin's chops! You should teach classes in that, Misuk. People would be lined up around the block.
Yeah, yesterday was an anomaly for Sara Kim. Today it's neon yellow with a zebra jacket. Good grief.
How did this show get completely taken over by annoying women? Yerin, Gieun, Sara Kim...they're squeezing everyone else's air time, even Seyeong's. And now even Mrs. Kim (Juhui) is bickering like some cackling old hen. How weird has it gotten when PSBMom is the most dignified woman in the show. Living humbly, trying to support herself with menial work...how can you not root for her now.
Baker Dad is right, Donguk--angry or not, don't stiff your mom like that. And what's the deal with the green pants? Like mother, like son.
"Why can't you dress more like a mother?" Bravo, grandma...but I'm thinking more like, Why can't you dress more like an Earth creature? "From now on, don't wear that hat." Oh, grandma, how little you know. That one is by far the best of the lot. Don't tempt fate on this one. Trust me.
"Thank you for working over the holidays and taking care of this." A boss who sincerely thanks his employees? This new guy just keeps getting better and better. (The acrylic thing on his desk says An Tae Jun. So now we have a name.)
"I'm not doing good work to be rewarded." That's why we like Seyeong.
Jeonghyo! DUDE!!! You took her shoe shopping?!? Are you insane?? Do you realize the terrifying cataclysm you've just unleashed on yourself? Time and space are about to be rendered utterly meaningless. Your entire universe will collapse into a numbing, dimensionless singularity of despair and sensory deprivation. Make peace with your creator, my friend, because no mortal can help you now. You poor clueless bastard.
Oh look, now she's buying you a necktie. Too bad that didn't come before the shoe store, so you could hang yourself with it.
Seyeong, why are you thanking grandma for getting your job back (which you never really lost because the resignation wasn't accepted)? All she did was tell the truth about the mess she created herself. You should chew her out but good. But you're too nice to do it, aren't you.
Hey Mister Executive--you suck! You heard the new boss say he wants projects to be done based on talent, and now you're telling him he's wrong? That's a good way to get fired. Hmmm...on second thought, please go right ahead! Doink! Aaaaaand there it is. Three posts above. "...the police know who was there..." I know Yerin's a compulsive liar but I just can't buy her being stupid enough to push that story off as her own. You just knew it was going to backfire. Even if it gets Yerin in major trouble for it, it just feels too forced.
Hey, Nari, I put myself on the line for you the other day and you're walking around dressed like a junior high school kid. Place of business, sister. Sheesh.
Speaking of which, Jaeseong, for heaven's sakes, put on a shirt! A white v-neck t-shirt with a blazer. You look like a guy who's dumb enough to be surprised at hearing Yerin lied. Oh, wait....
P.S. Why can't I stop commenting on the wardrobe. My apologies to anybody who's getting annoyed by it. Not like me at all. But some of it, how can you possibly ignore it.

While this show is still facing some deficiencies, I have to admit that it's gotten a lot better lately. As ajk mentioned, it's really nice seeing the happy family getting together again. After a recent non-stop diet of grim ugliness, that's something that's really refreshing. There still isn't much humor in the mix, though. And that's odd, given all the opportunities for it. Those endlessly dumb, silly comments from Grandmother could easily be made into dumb, funny comments, given the right comeback from one of the other characters. But, it's just not happening. Yerin reminds me of the millionaire Hollywood celebrities who get caught shoplifting in some ritzy store. Of course, it's an unbelievably dumb move on their part, but when the opportunity strikes, they just can't help themselves. I figure Yerin's compulsive lying is kinda the same thing - and she'll eventually pay a price for it. And yes: Jeonghyo buying Seyeong shoes, and she buying him a necktie? ?? Good grief, will those two actually wind up together after all?

You know what, mikey, I'm starting to wonder the same thing. Seyeong said something maybe fifteen episodes or so ago, about Yerin and Jaeseong--that "Yerin loves him more than I do." And the way she said it, it was like there was almost a finality about it, like she was waving goodbye to the whole thing. And now there are 30 episodes left, and it seems like Seyeong and Jeonghyo are getting closer. Would be tough to reverse that and put her back with Jaeseong in that time. Not impossible, but tough.
The shoplifting analogy is good.
The "humor" we're stuck with these days is Gieun, apparently--if you call that humor. (Thanks for the comment, knov. Amazing anybody finds that funny, but somebody must or they wouldn't keep loading it up.) That's the most disappointing thing about the direction the show has gone off in. Some clever lines and situations early on. Where did it all go. Sigh.

That's odd--the CEO's office door opens outward. Wonder why.
"Don't be so cruel." Yeah, Jeonghyo, knock it off. You've been so eager to see other people reunite with bio-parents, no matter what the issues are. Practice what you preach.
"I missed you so much." Boy Seyeong really is a nice person if she's telling those two twit trainees she missed them. When are they headed out of Seoul?
Sara Kim cooked a meal? Wow, grandma really got through to her. And it looks pretty good, too. Now the challenge is to look at her dress and keep the food down! What's the deal with today's dress? My guess is camoflauge for hunting alligators. Thank goodness for the apron covering most of it.
Donguk, you baby. The seven-year-old has to tell you to eat up? Hey, remember early in the series when she was the most mature one in the whole show? Maybe she's making a comeback.
Anybody know what that giant silver box is in the film company office? It looks like some sort of freezer. Hmmm...you don't suppose they put Grandpa Sundial in there, do you?
goawaygoawaygoawaygoawaygoawaygoawaygoawaygoawaygoawaygoawaygoaway I am SO BLEEPING SICK of her. And Donguk's mom is more of the same. Hmmm, maybe that's why they brought her in--because Gieun has become popular? I sure hope that's not the reason.
"I'll pay for dinner next time." "Can we have something expensive?" Now THAT was funny! Not really a hilarious line, but you'd never expect Seyeong to say it.
Awfully good talking-to that CEOdad gave Jeonghyo about separating business from personal life.
"Not any more." Ouch. Seyeong won't talk to her, Jaeseong doubts her and now even Jeonghyo totally blows her off. It sure does look like Yerin has finally run out of rope with everybody. Well that only took 106 episodes. (Sheesh.)
"It's best to do a job well, not quickly." That settles it--I want to work for this guy.
Darn, that awful closing music is back. But oh boy, could this be it? Is the hammer finally going to drop on Yerin? For the first time in months I'm eager to see tomorrow's show.

THIS was the episode I was eager to see? Borrr-ring. And CEOdad didn't even fire Yerin.
Cooking in head families? What is so groundbreaking about that concept? Everybody's talking like this show idea is going to redefine the entire Korean TV industry. Sheesh, and I thought American television was short on ideas....
Hey, Yeonga ditched the dye job. Dang she looks good. Wish we saw more of her.
So the thieving and the lying is all catching up with Yerin. "I had the highest scores of all the announcers!" Yeah, Yerin, you're a real honor student: Yes Your Honor, No Your Honor...hee hee hee
Seyeong, don't be a dweeb. What's with the game board? You think you're Vanna White? He's not a third-grader.
"I'll come up with ten ways to win her over." Hey, Gieun, can I suggest a few? Let's see, one involves a noose; one involves that mine where those Chilean guys got stuck; one involves Yerin bringing you some medicine...In fact, let's not stop at ten.
It didn't look like Donguk's mom really hurt her leg...but wow, she must be in terrible pain after all. Look at the neutral sweater and the plain white pants she's wearing. That's not the least bit repulsive or ridiculous. Clearly this woman is in serious anguish and she's delusional.
When this thing is all done, I'm going to go on YouTube and total up all of Gieun's screen time, and sue KBS for pain and suffering.
Jeonghyo, you dragged a crew of ten people out there to that lady's house and didn't even call ahead? You're supposed to be a good producer. That's not being a good producer. Daddy runs the company and now you think you can be an idiot? Maybe that's not it, but what's the explanation? Ugh.
What is with all of the snarky aside comments at the office lately? You know, just loud enough so the person can hear them. Very juvenile. All of you, stop it!
Nari, again with the junior high wardrobe. Stop it. And talk about not dressing like a professional, come on Yerin, could that skirt be any shorter? Why even bother--just put on your underwear and be done with it, if you're going to look like that.
Is that another VHS tape? And seriously--this entire big TV network doesn't have a single thing they can use to fill an empty time slot? Not even an old Gilligan's Island rerun?
We have to be fair to Yerin here. If nobody told her that arranging for tapes was part of her job now, then it's not her fault.
"What did I do that was so wrong? Why do I have to be treated like that?" Sigh. Monster Girl again. They created this potentially very interesting character with the conflicting motivations and the difficult past, and then for the most part just tossed it all out and turned her into a sociopath. A real shame, because the kind of character she was, as the show gets closer to the end you really hope that she'd come to terms with her past and want to redeem herself for the bad things she's done...but all this sociopath stuff, I'm guessing most viewers would be satisfied to see her fall into a hole and never come out. Too bad.

IMPORTANT - on Friday the entire board for this show, including this thread, will move onto the forum's main page. If you bookmarked or favorited this thread and come here directly, your link won't work after Friday.
We seem to have a bunch of people coming here and I don't want to lose anybody...so just a heads-up to go to the forum's main page after Friday. Or else Google "Chicago Korean drama" and click to get the main page. You can set up a new bookmark/favorite then.

Loved seeing the shoulder-bump again. Never get tired of that.
This stuff about the mystery CEO, nobody knows anything about him or what he looks like, come on. Give me a break. This is absurd.
Well at least they gave Yerin more than two sheets of paper to organize when they told her to organize. That's an improvement.
So the guy wants the 1976 Ray Charles / Cleo Laine "Porgy and Bess" album? How cool is that. I was worried he liked crap. But hard to find? Umm, I just punched it up on eBay and they have a whole bunch of them. Nice try, writers. Should have had him collecting early Blue Note jazz.
Gieun: "I'll be your remote control." Oh good--then we can take the batteries out.
The whole sequence with Gieun and Sara Kim, that was just awful. And they had to bring Baker Dad into it? Poor guy.
"I need the 1976 Ray Charles and Cleo Laine. I'll pay anything." Yerin, you idiot--look on the Internet like I did! Some plugged-in journalist you are. Sheesh. And then the guy hands her a CD? No no no! Must have the original vinyl--and what do you want to bet that's what the guy wants?
All this stuff about how the wedding is going to be paid for...Somebody help me with this. Yerin presumably makes a darned good salary as a network anchor, and Jaeseong is in a position of responsibility. And they both live with their families, so they're not shelling out rent money. So why can't THEY pay for it? Do adult children in Korea turn their paychecks over to their parents? The idea that either of these families is short on cash, even with the movie company being taken over, it seems hard to believe.
Look at that recipe book...wow, Seyeong you'd better be careful with that thing. That looks like an extremely valuable piece of family history. Please tell me you'll copy it and return it to him ASAP.
Jeonghyo mans up! Way to go, dude. It's about time. I wonder what tipped the scales? Maybe it was the raging testosterone atmosphere in that shoe store.
What was that noise Seyeong downloaded? CEOdad sure has better taste than she does.
CEOdad, as much I like you, you need to start being honest with people about who you are. This is getting irritating. You have people who can investigate company performance and report to you. I like the hands-on style but people won't trust you if you're not honest with them.
Again Yerin lies to Seyeong and Seyeong's not the least bit suspicious? AGAIN? Seyeong, even monkeys learn.

Today's episode, they seemed to hint that Yerin will soon discover that Jaeseong's father has gone broke, and that Jeonghyo's father is the new CEO. I thought (briefly) that maybe they were setting up Monster Girl to ditch the newly-poor Jaeseong, and make a run for the newly-rich Jeonghyo instead. But, later on, they seemed to squash that. Still ... How much you wanna bet that Yerin swipes that priceless, hand-written recipe book? The girl just can't help herself, you know.

Seyeong, if you buy Yerin's lies this time...oh good heavens, you bought them. And Seyeong, don't you think it's weird that some stranger old enough to be your dad keeps hanging around you for no obvious reason? You are a remarkably naive person sometimes.
"I'm a jazz fan." Okay, Yerin, now it's personal. You can lie about a lot of things, but lying about that...grrrr...And if I hear them say one more time that it's a hard album to find, I'm going to scream.
So Yerin asks her mom if she'll help pay for the wedding. Does the groom's family traditionally pay for these things in Korean culture? I'm not clear on this. And I still don't understand why Yerin can't help pay for it, with all the cash she must be raking in from the network. She's not spending it on fatty foods, is she.
Sara Kim to Gieun: "Don't you know how to knock?" Frankly, Sara, no I don't think she's mastered the technical intriciacies of it yet.
Okay, that was funny--Donguk shuddering and backing right out of the room like that....he's had a few of those straight-man reactions and always does them well. But that whole hair-and-makeup scene, apparently they're expecting the viewers to find that funny. Really? More and more I'm curious about just who their target demographic is for this Gieun stuff. Humor is subjective and I don't want to be unkind to anybody, but I just don't get it....
"You can't even look me in the eye." No, Sara it's not that--it's just a reflex from knowing how you dress.
Who the heck are all those suck-ups at the company opening?
Geez, you have to feel for Yongdeok lately, even if he did bring it on himself. And now having to suck up to Sara Kim, how lousy is that. I'm not looking forward to watching him be repeatedly demeaned by her, and of course that's what's coming.
CEOdad doesn't want a big introduction ceremony? He'll introduce himself to departments one by one? This guy reminds me of the new pope.
"How about you, Seyeong? This will help your career." Yeah, Seyeong, take career advice from Yerin. Look where she is now. And wow, CEOdad is really giving her the cold shoulder, isn't he? Maybe to the point of being a little rude. I know, he's the CEO, he can do what he wants, but come on, treat her respectfully and then drop the hammer on her respectfully.
"I'm pretty strong myself." Sure, Seyeong, that's why Yerin steps on you like linoleum. But good for you for wanting to investigate a story for its public good. Nice to hear that from a character.
Ummm....aren't they trespassing? Okay, maybe the company is ripping people off, but aren't they trespassing? I'm just saying....Ah, see, even the goon knows they're trespassing. Sheesh. And the goon takes one swing with a pipe and then runs away scared? Guy's a sorry excuse for a goon. What a silly storyline.
Wait...with all of the pain Jeonghyo's in, he puts on a shirt and buttons all of the buttons and makes it to the ground floor in literally seconds? Ugh...but if she lets him kiss her then who am I to complain about it, because look at this--they may actually wind up together after all. How about that. I'll be darned.
P.S. Hmm...I wonder if Sara Kim is going to unearth Seongsu's screenplay and produce it.

mikey, you know what, I hadn't thought about that but it's an interesting possibility. Golddigging is one thing Yerin hasn't done yet but maybe she will. And of course that would set off another round of Yerin-bullying-Seyong stuff. I keep thinking it's time for Yerin to start crashing and burning; have to figure there will be some sort of redemption eventually, and she's gotten in so deep that it will take time for that to happen--and time is growing short. But the show never seems to get tired of the Monster Girl stuff so it could definitely happen. Good thinking....
I'm still really surprised we didn't get a Part Two of Yerin and PSBMom. When Yerin was grabbing her side and in all that pain, I was sure they were setting up for some sort of transfusion or transplant Yerin would need and only PSBMom could help her. That could have been a really good story, but it doesn't look like that will happen. Too bad.

The scene with Donguk shuddering and backing out of the room really was funny. Not laugh-out-loud funny, perhaps, but I actually did chuckle-out-loud.
Sure wish they had more stuff like that in this show.
Haven't quite figured out the appeal of Gieun myself. She's obviously not that funny - at least, not to this American audience. But, the Koreans seem to just eat this stuff up.
Is it cultural (Korean vs. American)? Generational (teens vs. old geezers)? You got me. But, we Americans have all seen enough genuinely funny K-dramas to know that it can't be all cultural.
Also, what's with the freakazoid Sara Kim hairstyle that simply disappears as soon as she enters the bakery? I though it might be amusing to see Snooty Sara with the Wild Hairdo getting caught by everyone as she tried to sneak her way out of the bakery (on her way for repair work at one of those Gangnam beauty shops). Instead, the Wild Hairdo just vanished.
I might have enjoyed a few minutes of delicious public humiliation that could have brought Sara Kim down a few notches.
And yeah, just what did happen to the Yerin-grabbing-her-side storyline. Boy, did that just disappear, or what?

Who was on that scooter--the network censor?
We never saw a smile like that on Seyeong's face when she was dating Jaeseong.
Yeonga keeps wearing leopard-print stuff. Blecch. Stop it, Yeonga. Do I have to start complaining about you too?...And now even Seyeong's dressed poorly today. STOP IT! All of you! I don't want to notice this stuff!
"Want to give each other a high five?" Why Seyeong, you naughty rascal. You are a superfreak. Now get on your Harley and ride like the wind.
"Do you even want to marry me?" Here it is, Jaeseong: the moment you'll remember for the rest of your life if you don't jump through that escape hatch that opened this second....oooh, and it's closed now. Too late.
"I want to get my dream ring. I have to have something to show people." A week or so ago I made a wisecrack about Bridezilla...but look at this, she may really be turning into one. Actually this could get very entertaining. Better that than more of the Seyeong-bullying.
And the humiliation begins. This is not funny or enjoyable, watching Yongdeok get humiliated. And neither is Sara Kim's latest ridiculous outfit. And she doesn't like classical music? Bite me, lady. "Can't you drive properly?" Not if you don't shut your yap, he can't, you annoying shrew.
Stop it, grandma. Don't even think it. On what level do you think your son could possibly be happy with that woman? That is nauseating. He didn't leave because he's shy; that was a primal fight-or-flight reflex.
Gieun does a weak pratfall and drops the rolls. Oh how hilarious. My sides ache from laughing. My knees are sore from all the slapping...And now Donguk's lecturing her like he did sixty or seventy epsiodes ago, been there, done that...And now it's just getting pathetic, the mom ripping her apart like that. The sad part is, you want to feel sorry for her because this time it was particularly rough, but it's like the boy who cried wolf--at some point you just stop buying in.
Well at least Nari is dressed like a professional today. Thanks for that.
"Hyeri will do a re-shoot." Oh that is harsh--the bratty trainee gets Yerin's assignment. And Yerin's writing cue cards! What a slap in the face. Not that she hasn't earned it. Certainly the viewers must be enjoying this. Give the people what they want.
Uh-oh...Seyeong and Jeonghyo are only just starting to get closer to one another and they're already turning into a really annoying couple. You know, over-the-top cute with each other. You two better cut that out ASAP! Or you'll be banned from reproducing. The gene pool can't have that, can it now.
CEODad, you introduced yourself to everybody else in the company and you're still stringing Seyong along. Knock it off! I hope she slaps you when she finds out. Of course she won't, but you've got it coming.
Yerin, you'd better stop muttering out loud like that and keep your cool....WOW that was an impressive accident. Certainly doesn't say a lot for the network's safety procedures, after that set wall fell on Mrs. Kim. But this time they used a lot more stuff and it looked real impressive. Full credit for it. No, Yerin, I'm sure you didn't kill him; some treatment and rest and he'll be fine. Just do the guy a big favor and don't bring him his medicine.
