hi, I am really enjoying the series because of the lead actor- Choi Su-Jong. Was'nt he such a terrific performer and very good looking and so young looking for his real age. I lost the interest on the history part of this series because I think the writer included a lot of fictional characters and fictional events. I was so annoyed at the episode where they change Chulin character from being a tough woman to a whimp. And the part where Chulin was trying to escape again, Li Kaigu said he violated her and the Khan said if Chulin do not choose marriage, he will kill LI kAIGU AND THE BABY INSIDE HER. Even you are barbarian why would you let someone you trust marry your daughter after he violated her. I thought this episode was very distasteful, in the writer's part.

Hi claire, I agree that there are a lot of fictional events and characters, including Chulin I believe. She was annoying before they changed her character too. One minute she hated DJY and the next time she loved him. She kept going back and forth. I get the impression she will turn back to her old self after this. The part about Li Kaigu telling Khan that he violated her, I think Chulin's reaction changed the outcome. Was the violation a rape (which is what you would conclude from the word) or was it mutual (which I'm sure the Khan wasn't pleased with either and would want a man to ask permission for marrying his daughter). It is all my opinion, but if Kaigu raped Chulin, then the Khan would kill him for his crime against his daughter and the baby that would be a bitter reminder to Chulin of that experience.I'm thinking somehow Khan was led to believe it wasn't rape, otherwise what father would allow his precious daughter to marry someone who hurt his little girl. If my speculation is wrong, I hope the Khan's name is on the hit list along with Li Kaigu!

I could be wrong about this, but it seems to me that the issue of family disgrace would probably have trumped the Khan's concerns over the actual offense against his daughter. And that probably would've been the case in many families of that timeperiod, barbarian or otherwise. Therefore, when Kaigu presented the Khitan Khan with an opportunity to save face, the Khan was open to the idea and yet sensitive to his daughter leaving the final decision in her hands.
I'm not justifying anything here, just providing further food for discussion.

You have a very good point seven stars. I never considered that. I also thought about the fact that women weren't regarded very highly down through the ages. We are very fortunate these days in this country.

I agree Tinkerbell! Hopefully that will be increasingly the case here in the U.S. and elsewhere.

I have a question; Is the actress that plays Geumlan, Ryu Hyun-Kyung. I have told people repeatedly it isn't but now I am looking for conclusive proof and if anyone knows the actresses name so I can put this to rest, I would appreciate it.

The actress that Geumlan is Shim Eunjin. She was once a member Baby VOX. There is a fan web site: www.shim-eunjin.net. First, I must say Vickieh... Domo arigato gozaimasu! This is GREAT NEWS! You have vindicated me, for I am a Ryu Hyun-Kyung fan, with no means to even figure out how to see more of her. But an English based site for a Korean actress? SCORE! YOU RULE, YEAH! Ahem, sumimasen. Sorry about my pathetic attempts at Japanese, but I try to get in practice where I can... for all the good it does me. Either way, I'll try to be normal for a moment and say thank you very much for providing the information I was looking for. If I would have had one more person say "I'm telling you, she's the woman that played Jaunson from AOW! You're not a real fan of hers and you clearly can't see that they're the same person!" -_- Yes, I may well wear glasses, but I'm not THAT blind, sheesh. So thanks for not only providing a name, but a site. I've tried very hard to look for sites in English for people like Kim Hae-Ri, Lee Duk-Hwa, Ryu Hyun-Kyung and Im Chae-won... iiiiiiiiiiiiit, didn't really pan out too well. I'm wondering though, do you know of any fansites for Ryu Hyun-Kyung? I'd definitely like to see more of her work as an actress, but I have little to know shot since I don't even have access to a basic listing... And one "other thing"? Who are the actresses who play Chulin and Princess Sukyoung in DJY? I was told that Auhong is played by Im Chae-Won, but someone else told me her name is Im Kyung-Ok? Thanks for any help you can provide and thanks again for the assist already, guess... I'd better go to bed now... might help with getting up in a... few hours...
