Actors currently rumored to play Yi Soon Shin, if he does come out in this drama. 1. Kim Myung Soo (Wakizaka Yasuharu in KBS Immortal Yi Soon Shin) 2. Kim Cheol Gi (Kwon Geun in KBS Jeong Dojeon) 3. Lee Tae Gon (King Gwanggaeto in KBS King Gwanggaeto) 4. Park Hae Joon - has never been in a historical before Picture of Park Hae Joon - tenasia.hankyung.com/archives/373496Have to say, #1 would be just too weird. Wakizaka playing Yi Soon-Shin? Wow. Of course he's been in a bunch of the KBS historicals we've featured here and done real good work in all of them...but I hope they can leave YSS out of this one entirely. Won't be easy but hopefully they can write around it. IYSS is casting its shadow on this series already just by the subject matter. I like the producers' intention to tell other parts of the war story. That's what I'm hoping too, but there are Yi Soon Shin worshippers protesting on Jingbirok's official website about how it wouldn't be an Imjin War drama without Yi Soon Shin. BTW, Kim Myung Soo played yet another Samurai general Kinoshita(fictional) on KBS's 2014 series King's Face.

UGH--that's the best they can do?!? He was nothing special in Iron Empress; hardly seems worthy of that role. But maybe the IE role didn't do him justice. I'll keep an open mind, of course.
Or maybe nobody else wanted to go anywhere near it after KMM's portrayal.

Like the director said before the drama began, YSS wasn't going to be a very important character so he shouldn't be someone who overshadows Ryu Seong Ryong. I think that was the reason for his appointment. I would've preferred Hong Il Gwon, who played Yang Kyu in Iron Empress, as YSS but he got cast as Kim Eung Nam instead.

Im Hyuk! Also in Iron Empress, played an official, and in Shin Don, played a monk. The guy has done it all in historicals. I wonder how much detail they'll go into about the red. Blecch.

Not just any official, he played one of the most known names in Korean history. Character he played in IE is probably more famous than Dae Jung Sang in Korea to be honest. He also played Alcheon in KBS King's Dream. The funny thing is Gwak Jae U was 40 when the Imjin War started, but Im Hyuk is 66.Yi Soon Shin was 47 and is being played by Kim Seok Hoon, who is 43 but looks at least 10 years younger lol. Ryu Seong Ryong was 50 and is being played by Kim Sang Jung, who is exactly the same age.
