UGH--that's the best they can do?!? He was nothing special in Iron Empress; hardly seems worthy of that role. But maybe the IE role didn't do him justice. I'll keep an open mind, of course. Or maybe nobody else wanted to go anywhere near it after KMM's portrayal. According to what I've heard, the director originally did not want to cast YSS or make him a very minor character even if they did cast him, but low ratings gave them no choice but to cast YSS and give him a bigger focus than they originally intended. The ratings have been going up ever since YSS's first appearance, so it looks like their change of plan worked.

Yes it does, excelsior! Thanks for finding that, truth...somebody really did their homework on it. Even spotting bit-part people like refugees, that is darned impressive.
The thing about the ratings is very troubling. They're going to let the ratings dictate the content? That does NOT sound good for the series, does it. What did they think was going to happen? Did they really expect high ratings for a series about a low point in the nation's history? I mean the first part of the war. Certainly there are lots of heroes who can emerge to be part of the story as the war progresses, but they should have expected modest ratings for the early episodes. People don't want to see defeat, they want to see victory. Sheesh.

Yu Seung Bong (Shimazu Yoshihiro in KBS Immortal Yi Soon Shin) has been cast as Go Kyeongmyeong.
Lee Daero (Hwang Yeon - Cheonbok's Dad in KBS Jeong Dojeon) has been cast as Jeong Tak.
This has nothing to do with this drama, but Nam Seong Jin(Lee Deokhyeong in Jingbirok) has been cast as Lee Bangwon in the musical "Foundation of Joseon Dynasty."

Musical?
I'm sorry, I must have blacked out there for a minute.

Maybe this has already been noted in another thread. The first 6 episodes are available on Gooddrama with English subbing (better than the subs that are out there on youtube). For those of us who aren't getting it on TV.

And I watched those six episodes. All I can say is this: I understand why this show has low ratings. It's because they cannot figure out who the main character is. Is it Ryu Sung Ryong, or is it the king, or is it Hideoshi? I know who the main protagonist is, because I read about the show before watching it. But if I did not, I would be confused as to who this show is about. Because despite being the main character, Ryu feels like a supporting character, and not a very interesting one at that. He is very dry and boring. The King is significanly more interesting and developed. The Kampaku is more interesting and developed. Even the supporting ministers and samurai have their own little agendas that are interesting. But Ryu is very dry as of now.
As I said, I only watched those six episodes. So I dunno if he gets more interesting or not.

Nope, not mentioned before, mugwump, so thanks for doing it.
excelsior the same thing has occurred to me as I've watched. I expected a character drama about Ryu in the same style as Jeong Dojeon, but it's much more a retelling of the war story. Yes both Seonjo and Hideyoshi are more interesting characters than Ryu is. The ratings, well, human nature says the ratings will go up once Joseon starts having some war successes. We'll see!

I just realized something. Its been 70 years since Korea was liberated from the Japanese occupation. This show about a war with an invading Japan was made to commemorate that. I feel stupid for just figuring that out.

I feel stupid for just figuring that out. That is exactly why they made Immortal Yi Soon Shin 10 years ago as well, so maybe we'll have another Imjin War drama in 2025?
