Ok-jin is really annoying, so much so that I couldn't stand her screaming and emotional outbursts. I thought her sister was the maid since she treats her so badly. It seems that Ok-jin is more concerned about her son marrying into a wealthy family rather than for his happiness. I don't think she really cares that much for Hee-joo, but sees her as a ticket to bring prestige into her family.

Hi I'm new but wanted to say, the actress that plays ki-joon mom usually plays someone not very nice and she is doing a bang up job again. I just wish she would stop shouting. Where can I find a de-coder for all the initials that are being used for past stories. Like I know YSS but then I am not sure if the other initials are for Korean titles or American titles.

Hi, cosmic. It's a safe bet that the initials are for American titles. Here are a few off the top of my head: YH = Yellow Handkerchief OMR = One Million Roses MPC = My Precious Child (also called, in some place, My Lovely Family, but we in Chicago don't use that title) Sometimes we use initials for the characters' names, but I don't think we're familiar enough with the characters in this show yet to start abbreviating them.

I think it's Jae-min, the reverse of the actor's character's name in OMR (Min-jae).

Thanks Lucy for the initials. Also I thought there was something familure about Jae-min's name. I enjoyed OMR and his character. Do you remember the name of the drama that had Ki-joom's mom in it being a real beast to the new and not approved of daughter-in-law (so what else is new) and making her make a zillion pounds of kim-chee before she went to work?

I'm not sure I remember the part about the kimchee but I believe it was the same actress who did appear as yet another mean mother-in-law in the KBS daily drama "To Be With You" a few years back.

Aigu! That woman was wearing a COW print suit to her daughter's graduation. Yuck! And then she wonders why Brat Jr. didn't want her to go. And what designer handbag does the daughter carry around that she puts that Fendi purse on the kitchen table as if she got it from Payless?

Just when Hee-joo was about to give up on Ki-jun...Ok-jin goes and gives her hope not to give up! I was so mad! When Hee-joo said, "Ajumma, I think I have to give up on Ki-jun" Ok-jin says, "I'll never accept that other woman as my DIL" so now Hee-joo is happy again. This is terrible. Ok-jin needs to cool down and let Ki-jun decide for himself. Ok-jin keeps getting involved...ok, so as a Mother, you should be involved...but Ok-jin is TOO obsessive with her son's marital life.

Yes, Lovely, that scene we're talking about here was particularly hilarious. It really limned the relationship between Ok-ja and Ok-jin. Now, perhaps Melissa's DH will let us in on the secret of why their names are so funny. Bo I just saw the PM, Bo...back atcha! But, I'll post here as well. According to him they are kind of "Country/hick" names. So for a snooty, upper class woman to have a hick name, it would be kind of embarrassing. It's kind of like someone being called Billy-Jo/Mary-Jo (girl name) or Darlene or something like that in the States. Not exactly the most elegant name you can have. Melissa

As we saw tonight, you can take the woman out of the country, but you can't take the country out of the woman. When Ok-jin went off on Ki-joon, her sister, acting like a Greek chorus, first notes, "Oh, she's using big words!", and then, "She's speaking with an accent! Come on, speak with the Seoul dialect!"
I wonder in Ok-soon remembers In-young's mom too. I presume they all grew up in the same town.

Yeah, someone keeps introducing the name, "Ok-soon" but she doesn't exist. It's Ok-ja and Ok-jin.

I like this drama even though i am getting a little tired of the forbiden love theme now. ki-joon's mom is keeping me from falling in love with this show, she is the most irritating character i have seen in eight on and off years of k-dramas.I ABSOLUTELY HATE HER CHARACTER.SHE wasn't this bad when she played mrs choi on tbwy.
