Yeah I saw, and it comes with some sort of sugar powder that you dip it into. Looks like they're still readily available through websites.
One of the nice things about watching this series online is that whenever some weird English reference comes up, I can stop and Google it and figure out what they're talking about right away. Horlick's, that one hung over me for many episodes!

God i remember Horlick’s . Ovaltine was the competing brand .Originally Horlicks was a baby food . In WW2 it was used as a food supplement . By the 60’s it had become a regular drink . It had a sweet malty taste . They used to run this really obnoxious commercial with the tag line “ Eveninks And Mornicks we drink Horlicks “ as a smiling family raise their cups .
It’s actually still around . Honestly i preferred the competitor Ovaltine .

I just finished #5 and was shocked that they shipped both Trixie and Nurse Crane out apparently for multiple episodes. That's a big hole that Nonnatus House may need extra help to fill, we shall see...And I'd love to know why they both were written out at the same time. Trixie was noticeably bigger already, and trying to hide it wasn't working all that well, so you can understand that one. Nurse Crane, I don't know, very odd....
5 was terrific, definitely a best-of-series episode. Couldn't believe it was only an hour, it felt so much longer. So much material in it and all so well done.
On the other hand I was surprised by the end of episode 3, how sloppy it was. All of a sudden Matthew and Trixie are kissing? That was so sudden and we got nothing to show how he got past his wife's passing. And also it was supposed to be the 100th anniversary of Nonnatus House, and all we got was some locals singing. That should have been a multiple-episode angle, why would you toss away something that big so casually? But other than that it's been another strong season so far.

This Sundays episode was a shocker . Stunning and sad . Sadly the season concludes at episode 8 again . I hope they go back to full seasons soon

this is the first season I have watched of this show-- read many of the posts, just didn't know if I could jump in the middle and understand the storyline. Glad I watched this season, really, readlly enjoyed the storylines, the characters, not at all hard to get right into it. I will admit whem they were on the train and the guy said "Glad I didn't drive", in my gut I knew something was going to happen, but completely forgot about the character that was tired and had trouble with his glasses and was the conducter! Sure caught me by surprise- but I liked it! Ajk-- thanks for getting me hooked on this!

Hey bird! Nice to hear from you. I stopped reading your post and will get back to it soon, because I'm a bit behind and just tonight watched episode 7 online. Haven't gotten to the last one yet.
I have very mixed feelings about episode 7. This series isn't about big-time stuff like what happened, very out of character. And I didn't like the foreshadowing in episode 6, especially not Sister Monica Joan going to a psychic; I just don't think it's consistent with who she is. And Timothy in this one has never had friction with his dad before; it felt forced, like Oh we need to set up more emotion for afterwards. Don't know why the writers felt this was a good storyline at all...but I'll wait and see the aftermath and not judge prematurely.
p.s. Come to think of it, how did all of those people in Cyril's and Lucille's apartment get injured? There was no shock wave from an explosion to cause any such thing. OK you can buy that there was some rumbling, but that wouldn't have thrown glass in anyone's eye. And it's not like the apartment was right next door to the accident; it was far enough away that nobody knew what had happened. Ugh, I hope this isn't a jump-the-shark moment. We shall see.

I have to say I was pleasantly shocked to see an episode waiting to be recorded on my DVR this past Sunday night! I know I wasn't paying attention to how many episodes there were this season, or how many regular TV shows end their seasons with big cliff hangeres...I thought I would just have to wait and see what happened with the train/people. I appreciate you mentioning the injuries at the apartment, I couldn't really wrap my brain around it and just brushed it off as being new to the series and not knowing the layout of the neighborhood.

Every season has had eight episodes except the previous one, which had seven because of the pandemic (and they made a 10th anniversary special in place of the eighth). Plus there's a single-episode Christmas special every year.
Yeah something was wrong with how that all played out. I'll sit down this weekend and watch the eighth episode and try to figure it out.

Ha ha i was wondering the same about all those injured people . I can safely say now that Ep 7 put the whole country ( England ) into a state of shock . For all the flaws and inconsistencies it was still a traumatic episode . I was glad to see Mathew really stepping up .
I did think that psychic bit in Ep 6 was so not needed because than everyone knows something is going to happen . They just should have left the train crash as a shock .

Well I finally sat down and watched episode 8. It wasn't the problem that it could have become. I wasn't sure if they'd go overboard with overheating fuel tanks and big explosions or whatever...but they didn't, the accident was done and the rest of it was the aftermath. So that was a relief.
Still, the whole thing had multiple problems with it and it should have gotten a good shaking out before they filmed any of it. The bird in the house and the psychic premonition, you're absolutely right it should have been left a surprise. And the manufactured argument with the doc and his kid, that was so out-of-the-ordinary that you just knew it was being cooked up to add drama to something bigger. Blecch. The phantom injuries at the apartment, that made no sense at all, and why was it even necessary? It wasn't. And the business with Sister Julienne, they just assumed she had a heart attack, and then tears about her short and invalid life ahead of her...and then at the very end, hey guess what I was just in shock, no heart attack...BOOOOOO. Of course she was in shock, there's no way Dr. Turner would have overlooked such a simple thing...but the way they just cavalierly tossed it in there and then pulled it right back out at the end, just not the level of skilled writing that this series delivers. I think it's the first time in the entire run of the series that I felt they dropped the ball in a big way.
And what bothered me the most was that the whole train story totally overshadowed the story of the teenage mother, which I thought was one of the best individual storylines they've ever done. Absolutely terrific from start to finish in every way.
So it wasn't a jump-the-shark situation, but it's hard not to get the feeling that the series is getting near the end of what it can present effectively without repeating itself. I'd miss it terribly, but you want something this good to go out strong and not hang on too long.

You beat me to it bird! Been real busy and meaning to post the schedule for the Christmas episode. Yes it premieres on Christmas evening at 8:00 p.m., as usual. I used to complain about that being a lousy time for the first airing, but apparently that's when it runs in the UK as well, so it's not just us here.
They're also going to rerun it immediately after the first airing is done, at 9:31 p.m. (yes that's what the schedule says, down to the minute). Very smart of them. It also will run on Tuesday December 27 at 2:00 a.m., and again on Saturday December 31 at 5:27 p.m. (down to the minute). All of these will be on the main 11.1 channel.
And most likely it will also be available for streaming online at PBS.org. That's become my favorite way to watch the show, because I can stop the stream and Google the English culture references that I'm not familiar with.
They're also going to run a couple of the previous years' Christmas episodes on Christmas Day at 11:00 a.m. and 12:30 p.m.--these will be on WTTW Prime, the 11.2 subchannel.

I have to say I was kinda smiling when I realized when my post beat you to it-- but then I read your other posts and found out you have been really busy. Hope your parents are doing better and for someone who had to have her sewers rodded for roots clogging them recently, I can sympathize with the leaky pipe, the sound of water doing anything but what it is supose to do sends my anxiety thru the roof! Let me when you get a chance to watch this.
