Christmas special airs in Chicago on Sunday, December 29 at 6:30 p.m. Which is an extremely dumb date and time for it. Not sure if all PBS is doing this or if it's just our PBS station being dumb...but whatever, if it's anything like last year's then it's worth watching at any time. Last year's was the best hour of television I've seen in a long, long time.

Darn it, I meant to bump this sooner but I've gotten behind in posting things here. This airs tonight. Haven't seen anything new since springtime; hope it's still as good.

This turned out to be more of a regular episode; not really all that Christmas-y, certainly not as much as last year's was. It had to deal with some major developments in the larger story. I liked last year's special better but this one was still very, very good. Can't get over what a great show this is.
Season 3, eight new episodes, starts on PBS on March 30.

I hope they do some review or repeat some episodes. The last one I saw had a major change for 3 characters (at least 3), with the young nun marrying the doctor, and the doctor's son getting polio. No one noticed him helping himself to his dad's medicines from the black bag. Guess there wasn't much treatment for polio then anyway, even if he had told his father that he was sick. At least he improved enough to not need the iron lung anymore.

That was the Christmas special. Even more than the things you mentioned, the one thing that really stunned me is that they tore down Nonnatus House. Now what?
Gonna be a long three months waiting for the answer.

Wonder what else I'm missing? (Jenny has a new boyfriend, I vaguely recall...?)

Plus there will be a season 4 next spring with eight more, with another Christmas special preceding them.

I have grown to love this show ,the attention to period detail is amazing . We have had Teddy Boys so as the years progress it would be nice to see some Mods . Regardless its the best drama on the tube ,at least as far as Anglo goes .

Was wondering about how the series was going to do this season. The first two seasons consumed all of the original source material from the author's writings...so the series it on its own now. But the first two episodes have been great; every bit as solid as in the past. Still one of the best things on TV. I can't understand why people aren't going absolutely nuts over it.

I love it and i started watching Mr Sefridge as well which is also brilliant ,both great shows that need more attention . I was unaware that they had covered all the books AKJ ,that makes it more amazing .

This show is so good, it's ridiculous. Episode 4 of season 3 aired tonight and it was one of the best ever. They just keep nailing them, one after another.
PBS should be promoting this thing with every effort they can muster. What a missed opportunity.

Another great episode ,i was wondering what they were going to do with the boyfriend ?...forgot who her husband was but obviously not this poor guy . Now she is out for the next few episodes it seems .

Just wanted to give this a bump, because as MTR posted before the holidays, the fourth season of Call the Midwife starts on PBS (channel 11 in Chicago) on March 29. It looks like each episode will run three times in Chicago: Sunday evening at 7 p.m.; then on Monday at 2 p.m. on the subchannel 11.2; then early Tuesday morning at 2:30 a.m. on the main channel.
I had taped last season's final episode and the Christmas special and set them aside...and never got around to watching them. Finally watched last season's finale tonight and was shocked to see that the main character is leaving! And it doesn't sound like she's coming back, either. I guess it would have been tough to keep her around for the duration, since she was a real person and she did end up leaving midwifery at one point, and since the series ran out of her original source material and is telling fictional stories now. I don't think they'll have any problem replacing her with other characters and other stories, but it will sure be an adjustment. Have to say her departure was sort of abrupt; I'm surprised they didn't build it out into a more substantial storyline across multiple episodes.
Anyway, no falloff in the ratings in the UK for the fourth season, and the BBC has ordered a fifth season, so apparently the fourth season is just fine without her.

Jessica Raine moved over to Wolf Hall which starts the following week . So we have a PBS triple header CALL THE MIDWIFE MR SELFRIDGE WOLF HALL .
The 4th season will tackle many issues including the treatment of gay men in the late 50's . My fiends in the UK said this season was great, so i cannot wait . Very disappointed to lose Jessica Raine though Vanessa Redgrave will stay on as the present day Jenny(as she was writing the books )
