The 18th annual Chicago Korean Festival will be held on Saturday, August 10 and Sunday, August 11 at Bryn Mawr & Central Park avenue. A list of the performers and emcees is below. chicagokoreanfestival.com/v2/programs/It seems to have been moved West of its usual location. I wonder if it's being held in the Northeastern Illinois University parking lot.

A kimchi eating contest? Have they had that before? Sounds risky!

I don't know what the appeal of eating contests is. People making pigs of themselves for spectacle. No thanks. Make them all sign lifetime waivers so the government doesn't have to pay for their bypass surgeries.
But on the other hand, that is one kickass poster. Don't know how Korean it is but it's gorgeous. Somebody did some outstanding work. Too bad it's not signed.

Years ago, one poor child died when her stomach split open, not during an eating contest, but when she came home from (a mental institution?) for a Christmas visit with her mom. The poster would make a beautiful stained glass window.

:DI am going tomorrow for sure and I hope to make it on = Sunday late afternoon, early evening. It of course depends upon how well my arthritis is treating me lOL OR Mistreating I should say. Comes with age and oh boy have I got that one, I might be able to recognize you Knov1m but don't place any bets on that one. would really like to see the kimchi eating contest . . and of course, the singing competition. Seems that the weather will be okay this year, for a change, so I truly want to go . . . hope some of our Board members will be able to make an appearance too . . .

As the saying goes. . . the best laid plans . . . wanted to get there on Sat, however, unexpected company, relarives from out of town, showed up and so we all stayed home instead of going to the Festival. Sunday morning and early afternoon also did not go according to plans, so it was closer to three o'clock when we got there on Sunday and of course, any NEAR parking was full. My SIL dropped me off on Bryn Mawr about 3940 West I started walking East to get to the vendor stalls etc. Had to find a seat because these old hips of mine didn't want to walk and the humidity must have gone up because my breathing was hard . . . I was determined to get to the main stage but guess the mind can only do so much LOL.. Finally called my SIL to find out where he was and, thank goodness for cell phones, and we met up by the main stage or I should say NEAR the main stage since there were NO chairs any place near the stage and a big crowd in front of the stage. LOL being short doesn't help being able to see over others' heads, but we could hear the MC just fine. He kept saying that the kimchi eating contest was imminent; however, it was closer to 45 mins later, before he started to introduce the contestants and I could not make out any one on stage . . just a blur - I asked some of the young people around me if they couold see and they couldn't see anything either . . well objejects like someone's head or a few bodies but nothing clear enough to tell the identiry of the person or the table or the amount of kimchi or anthing LOL . . bummer . So my SIL and I walked over to the ticket booth to buy some tix for food etc and it started raining and raining so we put the food in containers and started the trek back to where he parked the car . . and he forgot WHERE HE HAD PARKD so told me to sit inside the parking garage on the window sill while he looked on both sides to fin the car and then came and picked me up. Bummer that I didn't get to watch what I really wanted to see and missed the singing competition too . . . . The highlight for me was drumming on one of the flat drums . the ajussi that was playing it and I discussed the similarity between American Indian drums and Irish bodhains. I showed him how the Irish use a drumstick which is shorter than the one he was usning, basically because the original ones are bone LOL.the other fun I had w. er people about current K-DRAMAS and seeing the cute babies and other little children. Love kids Still couldn't fin any Korean pancakes darn it ... guess I will have to make my own . . and good luck to me on tghat one. Did anyone else besides KNOV1 make it this year??? I really don't like the neg venue very much but it is a lot bigger and there are more vendors. But if you're old lik me and have walking difficulties, it's not a good fit. PLEAS3 EXCUS ANY TYPOS I M HAVING A PROBLM TODAY WITH MY VISION AND do not want to type in CAPS. LOL

I was slated for Ginza Fest on Saturday, and Sunday was a lovely, lovely migraine. The throw-uppy kind. So I just rusted on the couch and played Skyrim. It was actually kind of icky.
However, I want to thank soapy for posting that highly entertaining story about her day. It sounds like anything that could go wrong, did go wrong. Poor soapy. LOL...

I missed it this year because DH and I were visiting DD and her DH in NYC. We had a good time, took a lot of subway rides. Wish I hadn't misplaced my pedometer, because I think we walked a LOT!
The Museum of Natural History was really interesting. Clothing and utensils were on display for lots of Asian groups, and others. Too much to see in one visit!
I really need a nap, after a week of visiting. :-)
