Namhansanseong has been renamed The Fortress for the International market, its getting a release in the UK, not surprising, most big Korean films are released in England unlike the US . The Master, Asura City Of Madness, Nameless Gangster, Gangnam 70 all did really well in the UK, but have never been released in the US .

Found the series that shares the same name as the film. Doesn't start with the invasion. I think it starts with the aftermath of Yi Gwal's rebellion.

Yeah I read some American reviews and they were mixed at best. Although people like us would probably be more receptive to the material.

Woof. 40% on Rotten Tomatoes Traditional historicals can put off some people if you're not into history, especially Korean history for that matter. Korean viewer rating is 7 in Daum and 8 in Naver, so I am putting my trust on Korean viewers.

What was the reaction like for Myeongryang? From the Koreans I mean.
(Can't say what for the Western reaction-theres no Rotten Tomatoes rating but the few articles I managed to find say good things about it)

What was the reaction like for Myeongryang? From the Koreans I mean. (Can't say what for the Western reaction-theres no Rotten Tomatoes rating but the few articles I managed to find say good things about it) Myeongrang wasn't a full traditional historical. Armors were fantasy armors for example. In addition, Myeongryang had battles and fighting. It's hard not to like action. Fortress, on the other hand, is mostly politics. The main characters are two Confucian scholars as opposed to Myeongryang, which had YSS as the main character.
