Two upcoming films about castle sieges on Korean kingdoms caused by invading Chinese empires (bonus: both dynasties in their early years)

^This reminds me of how in Six Flying Dragons the names of certain historical figures were slightly altered. Yi In-im wasn't called Yi In-im.

I like Yu Ohseong, remember him from Attack The Gas Station and Friend, as well as the 04 historical Jang Gil San .

Wow...was the series really that good? Or was it just people who didn't know the story being so impressed by the story? Wondering if I should watch the series sometime.

Wow...was the series really that good? Or was it just people who didn't know the story being so impressed by the story? Wondering if I should watch the series sometime. It was really good in my opinion except for maybe the last episode. The 1st 3 were the best. (It was a 5 episode series) I'm sure everyone knows who Yi Soon Shin is in Korea, so I doubt it's about not knowing the story. It won the Best Program of the Year award beating all other TV shows including the higher rating fusion "historicals" with bigger stars, because of its historical accuracy(there were fiction of course, but it sticks true to history as much as possible), for being possibly the last traditional historical in years to come, and for its educational value. You can actually learn some history by watching this series compared to other so called "historicals" being broadcasted right now or last year. I think you should give it a try. I know CSJ and watching 2 Imjin War historicals prior to this are holding you back from watching this, but it's worth watching in my opinion. I wouldn't recommend watching another Imjin War series if it consisted of like 50 episodes, but it only has 5 episodes so it wouldn't take too much time watching it either. You could watch the whole series in one Sunday morning if you put time into it. I'm looking forward to this movie adaptation especially because it's the same director making it. I trust his work. The budget he had for the drama series was 5 hundred thousand. He's getting $12 million for the movie adaptation. With the kind of budget he can get for a movie, he's capable of creating a masterpiece.

Well okay, maybe I'll give it a try sometime. Yeah there is some Imjin fatigue, but like you say it's not a big time commitment.
Everyone in Korea may know YSS but I doubt that a lot of the people at those American festivals did, that was what I meant. The story is so compelling that it's hard for it not to have an impact no matter how it's depicted. But if it was so well regarded domestically then that does say something positive about it.

^FINALLY!
I see there's more emphasis on the clashing of what to do between two men with different ideas on how to deal with the situation more so than the battle itself

Finally saw Warriors Of The Dawn aka Proxy Soldiers . Pretty much its a straight up remake of Musa The Warrior, only sub in Gwanghae for the princess and Samurai for the Mongols . If you substitute history for an upper vs lower classes epic, with the "kill them all" finale , its enjoyable .Not great, but worth a watch .
A Korean Magnificent Seven styled film ....Somewhat.
Also well worth watching The Villainess with Kim Ok Bin is also really good, reminds me of a 90's Hong Kong Girls With Guns action film .
