I've recently finished The Kennedys on netflix. I wasn't into it when I first saw it, but rewatching it again, the last parts of the show are the strongest. The Ole Miss Riot, the Cuban Mssile Crisis and the assassination of both Kennedy brothers is very worth the watch. Also, the show is fairly accurate and portrays a balanced sympathetic portrayal of the family.
I'm also watching John Adams and THe West Wing. The movie Lincoln has really surged an interest in political dramas into me.
Has anyone seen the new House of Cards?
Also, season 3 of Transformers Prime is up. Scooby Doo Mystery Incorporated has ended recently. This summer a new animated Batman series called Beware the Batman is coming.

You'll like the John Adams series, sageuk. I bought it for my dad (who immerses himself in this stuff) and ended up enjoying it as much as he did.
Is anybody else watching "Call the Midwife"? If anybody had told me I'd be completely engrossed in a show about maternity nurses in 1950s London I'd have called them crazy...but this is the best thing I've seen on TV in years. It's a BBC show running on PBS, and it's based on the memoirs of a woman who was a real midwife in an impoverished, run-down neighborhood. The writing, acting and production are all fantastic. The first season was six episodes and a Christmas special, and now PBS is running the second season (easy to jump right in at any time). It's not just about having babies--the midwives work in a convent that assists the entire community. Some of it is very rough stuff, have to point that out. Some tragic, painful stories about loss, despair, poverty, you name it. It runs with a viewer-discretion warning and that's not because it's vulgar or violent; it just packs a huge wallop. But not over-the-top manipulation; it's all very honest and realistic. The last time I waited so eagerly for the next episode of something, it was IYSS. No kidding. It may not be everybody's cup of tea but I can't recommend it highly enough.

ajkIndeed, I'm enjoying it alot. The only thing I have issue with is that some of the shots just look strange. Have you ever noticed that? Some shots are shot angular when there's no reason to.

Which shots are you referring to, sageuk--do you mean the birth scenes? I know they're trying to show as much of the births as they can without being explicit. Frankly I could do without some of that entirely...but whatever--there's no real easy way to shoot that stuff.
ginny, there are companion books and then also the author's original material. I was going to buy the author's books, at least...but then I decided to wait until the series ends, whenever that is. Probably some spoilers in there, and I HATE spoilers. The show isn't going away anytime soon; the BBC has already contracted for season 3, and apparently the thing is doing real well in the ratings. Anyway, let us know what you think of the companion book.

I hadn't noticed it--but I'll keep an eye out for it. I do agree with you about the distraction when that's done.

Thanks for mentioning that--I meant to look up the reference but forgot about it. Here's a decent summary of it: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Teddy_BoySometimes I watch the show sitting by my computer so I can Google all of the local words and phrases. Horlick's, had never heard of the stuff. And then there were the two pig puppets we saw on the TV in the shop window, and later we saw one of the sisters making a replica: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pinky_and_PerkySort of their Kukla, Fran & Ollie.

Horlick's is available here, at most supermarkets I think. IIRC, it comes in chocolate or plain (vanilla?) malt. Once I bought Horlick's tablets, sort of malt-flavored candy, in a roll like LifeSavers.

I haven't seen it but there's a new series about Hannibal Lecter out, simply called "Hannibal", which is confusing because the main protagonist of Red Dragon/Manhunter is in it. Seems to be a prequel/reboot as Dr. Lecter isn't in prison
