With the new fall season of shows about to start, I was wondering what you all are planning on watching. My lineup is pretty much set.
Must watch: Modern Family [ABC], The Vampire Diaries [CW], Nikita [CW], Boardwalk Empire [HBO], Lost Girl [Canada, Syfy]
These are my must watch shows. I don't miss a single episode of them. All are returning shows.
Lost Girl is a Canadian show. It got picked up by Syfy but not sure when it'll start airing there. I'll just continue watching the Canadian broadcast.
Game of Thrones [HBO], True Blood [HBO] and Falling Skies [TNT] would also fall under this category but I don't include them since they're not fall shows.
Probables: Hawaii Five-O [CBS], Ringer [CW], Happy Endings [ABC], The Big Bang Theory [CBS], The Mentalist [CBS], The Simpsons [FOX]
The probables are shows that I watch on a regular basis but don't mind if I miss an episode or two. I added Ringer to the probables since it's the only new show that I'm likely to watch regularly. Depending on how it goes, it might become a must watch.
Honorable mention: New Girl [FOX], Up All Night [NBC], Prime Suspect [NBC], The Secret Circle [CW], Pan Am [ABC]
These are new shows that I'll probably check out but not sure if I'll stick with them. New Girl, Prime Suspect and The Secret Circle have the best chance to stick.
There are other shows that sound interesting, like Terra Nova [FOX] and Person of Interest [CBS], but that would require more free time than I have. There just aren't enough hours in a day and I have to sleep at some point lol.

Community. We don't have the cable anymore or, as a consequence, anything. So we Netflix/Apple TV/DVD-2-catch up on old shows we missed the first time--Mad Men, Arrested Development, Always Sunny. And DVDs of the really old shows, like Family Affair, Gary Shandling and Soap. We found out we spend a lot less money renting or even buying what we really want to watch, instead of paying for cable. (Our building stole the free airwaves to hand over the wiring to the satellite co, and so we can't get very good reception of regular TV and certainly not in HD)
Anyone out there a fan of stuff like Childrens Hospital or The Guild?

Are you kidding? Carol Burnett was on today, playing Verla Grubbs (sp.?). And the evil doctor has been bringing beloved characters back from the dead! I wouldn't miss it now. The ABC network honchos will regret their decision, I'll bet. Viewers are vowing to ignore The Chew. (The Chew?? ) Some say they won't watch anything on ABC anymore. I'll keep watching One Life to Live until it's over, too. Then General Hospital will be the only one, if it lasts.

I see we have several fans of Game of Thrones and Nikita.
I'm really looking forward to Boardwalk Empire. This season of True Blood has been a disappointment. Thankfully, The Vampire Diaries is just around the corner.

Ginny, which evil doctor? Is it a "legacy" guy?
I am sorry to see the old soaps go, even though I can't record (and therefore watch) them now. There really won't be anything like them any more. What other shows could I discuss with my mother from watching them with her 25 years ago? And still be able to catch up on what old characters are now doing?
Did they cancel Young and the Restless? That show is (was?) stellar.

Knov, that is quite a list--you must be a real fan, just to keep track of all of those storylines.
I've found myself watching less and less prime-time TV every year. I always enjoyed Two and a Half Men but I don't know if the cast change will work. We'll see. Mainly, I just want to enjoy the Letterman show this year because I think he'll hang it up in either 2012 or early 2013. Not looking forward to the day he retires. Other than that, Saturday is my only big TV night--Stooge-A-Palooza and Svengoolie.
One thing I am looking forward to: I'm not the biggest Ken Burns fan, but he has a short documentary series coming in October on PBS that I really want to see. It's about Prohibition.

Knov, that is quite a list--you must be a real fan, just to keep track of all of those storylines. LOL I know. Sometimes it's hard to keep track of everything. I find myself watching more primetime TV these days but I don't always watch everything "live". I'm able to keep up with all these shows because I watch quite a bit of them via internet. One thing I am looking forward to: I'm not the biggest Ken Burns fan, but he has a short documentary series coming in October on PBS that I really want to see. It's about Prohibition. Boardwalk Empire is set during the prohibiton era. That's a big reason I got into the show. It's set in Atlantic City but Chicago and Al Capone do play a role. You can't have a show about the prohibition era and leave out Chicago.

Oh good grief, not Capone again. That just eats my lunch. I hope they're at least showing him like the cop-killing dirtbag he was instead of the way Hollywood always shows him, you know, the charismatic antihero. I'm so sick of that guy being so tied to our city's name.
But you're right, of course, he's part of the Prohibition story and you can't leave him out. Haven't seen the series but I understand it's very well done.
