Hi jojo!
It's a picture of the beloved Admiral Yi Soon Shin and the quote is from one of his numerous inspiring, motivating speeches he made to his men before a battle. This particular one was from the Battle of Myongryang about to take place when YSS and his small band of soldiers, with only 13 warships, were about to go up against the invading Japanese navy of about 333 warships. And yes, YSS and his men prevailed. Another quote from the same speech was "He who seeks death shall live, and he who seeks life shall die".

EPISODE #91
I figured they would try to exchange Li Kaigu for Li Wen.
What's with Muchuo ? He should have been grateful he got to escape from Mt. Guifu with DJY and his men and here he is on the side of Tang. Unbelievable!

Ep 91 Seemed to be lots of little scenes in this episode. Li Wen may be good with a sword, but he needs to practice his fighting without weapon. Second time DJY beats him hand to hand. LW even breaks down and cries later on. When Geom and then Chulin went to DJY about trying to free Li Kaigu, and DJY says no, I thought one of them would sneak off, and get caught in the attempt. That would have made matters very extremely difficult. Inel, the Turkish prince, sure got the Empress’ blood boiling!! What about locking up envoys? I guess they’re not the same as regular ol’ messengers. Felt like smacking Shin Hong with his persistent questioning of DJY at the gate, what is your plan? it’s your duty to have a plan. Blah blah blah. What’s more important here? Working together to defeat XR or trying to stab DJY in the back?? Unless the calvary arrives at the last minute, looks like Xue Rengui will win this war. Didn’t like his comment about getting DJY’s head. No no no! Nice ending, with the standoff between DJY and XR.

I know I'm being a softy, but I felt sorry for Li Wen when he was strung up and crying. Maybe because for the first time he actually seemed human.
Yeah the Turkish prince was pretty bold wasn't he? I laughed when he got Empress Wu's dander up and then kept adding more conditions. Hopefully the Turks will join the other side now that Emp. Wu snubbed them. I can't believe how easily these people align themselves with their enemies. Don't they believe in loyalty or have any gratitude towards people who have helped them or never did anything to hurt them, unlike Tang who has hurt just about all her neighbors?

Good point about Li Wen. I should have used the shocked icon instead of rolling-eyes icon. I felt sorry for him too: even though he is an enemy of the Goguryeans, humiliation was worse that death. I’m trying to get a feel for the cultural practices, wherein the esteem of your society is of paramount importance. It’s so different from current popular Western culture wherein people will tell all about their lives in public; even on national TV. (now I will do the rolling eyes: ) Ep 92 – Xue Rengui is losing the upper hand in the war: past feelings for the Khitans, desire for personal glory, not listening to his generals, and drinking too much! It was shocking to hear him wailing!

EPISODE #92 Oh I know jojo, it's a completely different world isn't it? EP 92 I think Xue Rengui is losing more than the upper hand. What the heck was that thing he was doing with his hands when they brought in Li Kaigu? It was bizarre and pretty funny. Li Kaigu said exactly what I said a few eps. back. XR was turning on his friends for personal glory (making a name for himself). Poor Hongpei. Why does he always have to be everyone's punching bag? It's especially upsetting coming from Xue Rengui. Hongpei has always been loyal and obedient to XR. Well I'm glad Muchuo is going to fight the Empress. He should have done that in the first place, the ingrate. Don't get me started on Shin Hong. Always whispering negativity into someone's ear, the snake. I dislike everything about him all the way down to his bloated lips and his eyelids that are always at half mast. One of the few times Li Kaigu used common sense and told Geom that if he didn't make it back alive, to take his mother to DJY and he would risk his life to protect them both. Wu Zetian's eyebrows have been looking a little more normal lately. I'm glad Dae Jungsang and his men were given some recognition for their part in the battle, even though it's impossible they traveled 6 days and nights without rest to get there in time. The horses would've keeled over from exhaustion and how could the men have stayed awake that long?

I didn't notice Xue Rengui's hand motions; I'll look for it when I rewatch it. (yes... I admit it: I rewatch the episodes!! : XR should have spent more time in contemplation & meditation when he was in retirement. Then he might have realized that he was going into the war with the wrong motives. Looks like the Empress exchanged the extreme eyebrows for more hair ornaments. If LK makes it back, I'm shure SH will be whispering in his ear again. And if the Kahn dies, DJY's protection in Yingzhou is gone. Dae Jungsang's march would make it into the legends category, as in, larger-than-life legends. They had to have stopped for rest at some point or they wouldn't have been able to fight.

JoJo, I'll admit it too! I tape all the episodes so that I can catch anything I may have missed. Sometimes the word translations go faster than I can read and I like to go back and read them again.

I do the same thing (taping) jojo and snoopdog. If I was a speed reader there wouldn't be a problem.

I agree with you tinkerbell...............Shin Hong is a snake.....He's got a face even a mother would have a hard time trusting. In fact this actor played a snake in YSS as well, turning against the good Admiral Yi, a childhood friend........Kudo's to the casting department.......He even looks like the shady characters he plays....
ps.......I'm new to these Korean dramas but they have become the highlight of my TV viewing....I'm looking forward to more.

Welcome marcello! Love that line about Shin Hong's face. ;D They definitely picked the right actor. He plays the villain so well. He was even better in IYSS because he started out like a lovable dufus and evolved into one greedy, nasty, backstabbing traitor.

Welcome snoopdog and marcello! Ohh noo!! - I've just been spoiled reading the recent subject lines. Rats. One of the dangers of being behind the Chicago group. I caught the scene with the drunken Xue Rengui. Yea, that was weird with the hand motions. It was like, come closer so I can strangle you Li Kaigu. XR says he's mad (angry), but he seems disheartened to me.

Ep 93: How do you know if someone is under the influence of "Sir Shin"? By the snear on their face! After listening to SH, Sun Wanrong's lip started to curl; needs much more practice to get up to the level of Li Kaigu.
SW is another example of the diversity of characters that I enjoy in DJY. Sun Wanrong has the passion for the Khitan people, and is even a good general, but he doesn't have the strong leadership quality in the political arena like DJY or LK. Also, good acting for SW - the subtle hesitation comes across well in showing this.
The Empress mentioned Angdong Protectorate. Haven't heard that name in a long long time; wondering if Yeon Namseng still there.
Quite a metamorphosis in Xue Rengui towards Li Wen, and vice versa. Some strong words by LW. Is XR beginning have doubts about winning this war? Why else name LW as his 'successor'?
