In-young wanted to be a good daughter-in-law before being a good wife. Ki-joon asked her one time if she was going to be a foxy wife and IY responded, "I have to be a foxy daughter-in-law first!" If IY had listened to KJ and moved out, the two would have probably remained married. But IY would never be carefree and happy while she knew that she was being a "terrible" daughter-in-law because she did not listen to her mother-in-law. Being a "good" daughter-in-law to SM means staying at home, taking care of the household, etc. Moving out might have saved KJ and IY's relationship, but it would further cause SM to hate her DIL.

i think that in-young just needed a reason to get a divorce. she wassent happy in the first place and i think ki-joon loves her more than she loves him...its always been like that. its a shame that she wouldent go along with her husband before her mil. i mean arent u supposed to put your husband before everyone else? isint that how the vows go?

But maybe it's different for other cultures. I know in America, a lot of couples move out on their own after getting married. But for some Asian cultures, the DIL's job is to take care of her parents-in-law no matter what.
