Though I agree he's too mature for the usual romantic-comedy TV dramas, Kim definitely has the possibility to have an illustratious movie career ahead of him, to join the ranks of Jang Dong Gun or Choi Min Su! In my humble opinion anyway. Thanks, Heather, for the info. I wish this guy luck--tv is too small a screen to contain Mr. Kim Myung Min. ;D

That actress already landed the lead role for certain upcoming drama, but aimed at middle-aged housewife viewers. That means the producers too think she is well-past her prime for "trendy" dramas where the big bucks are. Sad, isn't it... The casting gudieline for "trendy" drama is very strict; men between the age of 22~27, women between the age of 17~24. The only exceptions are those who were already established at younger age, then aged past 27.
The only actor/actress of the show who stands to make big bucks is Mijin/Chohee actress, but her career has been on the downhill lately, and playing Chohee didn't do her any good...

And only the "middle-aged" housewives will have her now? Wow. How young is this core Asian audience? And why don't older audiences buy the shows or compel the big-spending advertisers?

...But I am sorry to hear that English is not subtle enough for you... Ouch! I didn't state that too well...being a poet myself, I've always found the language plenty darned subtle. However, sometimes trying to translate from another language to English is impossible. Perhaps, there is a different structure of subtlely in each language, making it difficult to cross the gap when translating. Yeah. That's what I meant. Hah hah haha ahhahaha. Um, thanks for all the links! I'm going to have a fabulous time with all that. Someone posted the rules of Sijo here awhile ago (in tangents), but I have not yet tried my hand at it. I'll look around for Ms Hwang's work. Thank you so much. Bo

It is probably not the age, but her "traditional" looks that prohibits her from high-paying roles.
Yes, to be aired in the morning slot, right after husbands goes to work and plenty of housewives have nothing to do but watch TV. Strictly for domestic consumption.
Taiwan/HK : 20~30s Japan : 30~50s Mostly female viewers.
There is little money to be made from selling the broadcast rights to domestic broadcasters; most of money is made from overseas broadcast rights and PPP(Product Placement Promotion), where the advertiser pays a substential amount(USD $250~300K per advertiser) to place their products in the show. Everything you see on the show is placed in advertisements, the cars, the clocks, the fridges, the clothing, and the cell phones. Furthermore, more than half the production funding for "trendy" shows come from Japanese/Chinese investers, so the casting has to meet their taste as well.
Basically, there is a massive shortage of male actors(who are short in supply to begin with and most show requires two) and a huge surplus of actresses. This would mean that only "male" lead casting matters, not the female lead.

There are basically beauty contest winners, supermodels, Idol Singers, and race queens competing for limited female lead roles, so someone like Miss Zeon doesn't get a chance.

Thank you so much. Bo Moderator, regardless of whether you ever attempt a shijo, you have a standing offer to share any of your lyrics within this thread. I deem them within the scope of this conversation. ;D

Are you telling me that eastern Asians do not think that Jeon Ye Seo is very beautiful? Wow. I must be losing my mind. I think she's gorgeous. I think she's a lot prettier than most of these other girls I see on other Asian shows and movies. Well, at least someone noticed that she is a pretty good actress and hired her for a starting role.

You have got to be kidding! It's hard to imagine that an audience will let untrained youth trump talented-but-slightly-older beauties like Jeon Ye Seo. And it's also hard to imagine there being an overabundance anywhere on the globe of 17-24 year old women who have the dramatic skills not to embarrass themselves on television. Hahaha. ;D

I forgot to post the image of Miss Jeon for comparison. BTW, her profile says she was unable to land any role(supporting) for 4 years since she entered acting. She started getting roles this year.

Okay, the only real difference I see between those girls (some of whom I recognize) and Ms Jeon is that she has more "asian" eyes. Maybe this lends credence to that question of whether plastic surgery for western looks is out of control in Korea.

All the girls whose image has been posted here look Korean to me. Haha. I mean my parents have been telling me for years that many starlets get their eyes done. But I can't believe that most of them do (well at least I hope they do not). After all, nobody blinks when they see a Korean guy with "large" eyes. This is because many Korean guys have large eyes. I mean I'm a Korean guy who has never had any plastic surgery done, and yet I have large eyes--I look very normal and natural even though you can see much of my iris. The same is true for our Admiral . . . Mr. Myung Min. ;D Ok, it may not seem so here, but you can all see the largeness of his and several other actors' eyes by watching this show.
