I haven't watched the episode yet, but the spoiler says he was shot to death(Goes against documented history). Well, most of supporting actors will now have a party now that all of their characters are dead.

I just finished watching the downloaded episode.
The end of Won Gyun does not betray this series's true title, "Immortal Wongyun". This episode has the most spectacular battle scene of all so far, producers never produced a battle scene like this for Yi Soon Shin's biggest victories.
Furthermore, Won Gyun "saves" his surviving men's lives by blocking Yakizaka's pursuing troop single-handedly, buying enough time for them to escape while Won Gyun challenges Wakizaka to a duel but Yakizaka just shoots Won Gyun 30 times. A real Samurai would never turn down a challenge, but the script writer was ******* clueless.
So the episode was a spectacular crap, if that makes any sense...

LOL, when what really happened is he got every one of his ships sunk, lost so much men, and in the end got beheaded. Seriously the writers suck *** sometimes at staying with corrective history.

Isn't this series based on a novel? Meaning heavier fiction than a regular biography?
At any rate, he didn't lose every ship. If you turn back and look at it again, one of his commanders probably unwittingly saved Chosun, by taking some of Chosun 's ships and fled before Won Kyun was attacked while sitting like a pretty sitting duck. The commander who took his ships with him, who was he? To flee, was it a cowardice or a smart move? But whatever, if Yi Soon Shin didn't have those 12 ships, there would have been no Yi Soon Shin, nor Korea.

So sad I knew they were going to make his death seem so tragic, somehow I feel sorry for him in this episode. Like he was a younger brother of mine that didn't know better and needed guidance. Something had me scratching my head though, wasn't it Shimazu and Dodo who killed him? Why was Wakizaka in the mix? They really need to stop making Wakizaka the main bad guy and involving him in everything.

In case you haven't noticed, Wakizaka also killed Yi Soon Shin's master, stole his love, will probably be the one to kill Yi Soon Shin's son. The script writer needed a strong antagonist, so Wakizaka was chosen...
Anyhow, the viewers weren't happy with the outcome of episode...

Yeah I know Wakizaka is the strong bad guy to Yi Soon Shin , but why is he involved with Won Kyun branch of the story? There was no reason for that.

All the ships Kyun commanded himself were all sunken. Those 12 ships didn't even go to the battle, the general/generals decided to listen to Admiral Yi and not make a suicidal attack. Kyun is just an idiot and an imcompetent naval general.

May the script writer has a crush on Yakizaka...

hehe i saw the episode today (downloaded) Its true that 12 ships escaped from the battle (historically true), but the episode said "about 20 ships" got lost. Anyway ISS uses those 12 ships to fight about 200 Japanese ships later (100thousand japanese soldiers)..which will make everything diffrent. ANd...Won Gyun, there is no record of how he died in that battle, but I think KBS wanted some dramatical end. BUt its his fault...losing most of ships twice! (remeber he lost more than hundred ships in the begining of war)

Our dear colleague Florel posted in the other thread that Won Kyun was made a "First Rank Meritorious Subject" by King Sonjo in 1604. That's just a little bit too much to stomach ... if I'm not mistaken "Meritorious Subject" not only carried a great deal of honor, but brought a pension to one's family and descendants for several generations. I think it also exempted one's descendants from military service, which in the case of Won Kyun's lineage may have been a good thing for Chosun.

how was the real title "the immortal wongyun?" anyway, it is miraculous to me that Bae Sul decided to take 12 ships. He was executed later on so it seems he filled his "niche." a thought.

Won Gyun was a fierce warrior, but he was not meant to be a naval commander. He just simply did not have the mental capacity, or WANTED to understand the art of naval warfare. He should have been a land army commander. And kal Hi already stated that someone saved 12 ships (I believe they were all turtle ships..) and defied an order.

I highly doubt that those 12 ships were turtle ships...Admiral Yi didn't get to build that many, and nobody would've let Bae Sul take the navy's assault ships. and I think you are confusing the real Won Gyun with the drama's.
