That was a cool effect watching behind the cannon ball as it sped toward a ship That scene was awesome, the way the cannon balls just zoomed by and blasted the ships. The Japanese were getting blasted!!!!!! And I loved the scene when YSS went down to start shooting arrows. It was good to see the High Commander go down and be among the soldiers. I think it was a great way for him to encourage the Archers.

My bf blurts in "pay back B%#@%@s". I was shocked because he normally does not talk like that.

I see the statue of Todo Takatura has those odd spearlike projections from the helmet, Choko. When I saw it on one of the samurai on YSS, I thought the guy had arrows in his head (like Steve Martin in his standup days)--I couldn't figure out how he stayed on his horse, LOL. What a strange item.

Choko! thanks for your comments.
and didn't we ALL love the cannonball piece?!
these historical dramas... they are so well done. It seems that no expemse is spared. The military uniforms are fascinating. I watch YSS and feel like I'm really watching a 1592 event. As I watch I keep asking myself 'how did they do that?'
I did catch something on a show where they seemed to be focusing on YSS. (No subtitles)... and when the gong is being sounded, the gong falls over. pretty funny. They should do a show of just BEHIND THE SCENES.
anyway, Thanks again Choko.

There is one thing I've noticed that I keep forgetting to mention. I think they're tripping the horses, because they are falling forward instead of to their sides, like a trained horse would. Does anyone know if they have similar rules as US movies must follow? I keep remembering the poor fish Lee Young-ae operated on in DJG...

Bo, I don't know exactly about the rules, but I guess the KBS staff did not let the horses wounded because they had to cut down expenses as much as possible. kathleen34 said "it seems that no expense is spared" but, in fact, it cost about 0.35 million dollars per episode. Compare the cost with that of The Last Samurai, a Hollywood movie, which cost about 130 million dollars. Actually, the Immortal YSS has total 100 episodes with 35 million dollar production cost. 15 million dollars were used to build filming locations in Buan and 20 million dollars are used for production cost. Poor KBS staff.... they are poverty-stricken.

Choko, you have such a finely developed sense of the absurd--poverty-stricken KBS! So funny. I was just worried about the poor horsies, but I guess it would make no sense to trip them, because that can kill an expensive animal.
By the way, Choko, I have something I wanted to ask you privately--would you mind sending me an email at [removed]? I just need your opinion on something.

$350K per episode? Amazing!
The Korean movie/TV industry seems to make *very* good use of computer effects to cut production costs. I remember reading somewhere that one of the crowd scenes in "Taegukgi" was done with *two* actors and lots of CG. I'm not saying you can't tell the difference, but I guess it's a choice between cutting a few corners and not being able to tell the story at all.
While Hollywood seems to build the plot around the available effects. Hallyuwood uses the effects to enhance the plot line. Big difference.
And Korean CG effects seem to be influenced heavily by computer games ... but I don't think I'll address that particular stereotype today ;D

..................English is too difficult. .. I just liked your funny line about how much money KBS is spending. If you can't understand me, it's not because English is too difficult, it's because I twist English until it's unrecognizable. Sometimes I can't understand what I'm trying to say, either. Bo

I have some things to say about episode 60, finally having seen it:
1) Mask of Fear - What an excellent speech! I was having a hard time keeping interested, the episode seemed to be jumping from person to person and I could not figure out (or care) what was going on, and then they showed that wonderful scene with the (fake) Japanese commandos and YSS telling Riceball-man to "Shoot him! Shoot him!" And then, "the only thing you have to fear is fear..." It was marvelous. Most inspiring.
2) Am I the only one who thinks that the deep, abiding friendship between Minister Ryu Seong-ryong and Poet/concubine Chung-hyang has slipped over the edge, into, maybe even...dare I say it...love (the romantic kind)?
