didn't we all know the chosun soldiers were going to get their butts kicked by the japanese prisoners? it was funny watching the faces of the officers, knowing YSS was right, and being so stunned by the highly skilled japanese. do we have another 'aran'? the royal concubine is rather cunning and spinning her web very neatly around the king. the officers under YSS, even though he has shown them time and again how intelligent and wise he is, still do not trust him. his methods are unorthodox, but he is no ordinary man. and the captain of the sado garrison....he must be a descendant of monkey man...he just has to be. and the teamaster....that was so sad, so tragic. a voice of reason, trying to warn about the cost of greed and war. he maintained his honor even as he lost his life.

You forgot the return of the behind-the-scenes hero of the whole saga. Who's the man getting the inside dope on the Japanese? The man who braved the Jurchen prison to get Chosun victory in the North? Chun-su, that's who. (It rhymes.)
luvchunsu ;D (AW that is, not the beautiful luvarchfiend)

haha , I don't understand why is he became so patriotic all of a sudden. He was selling weapons to the enemies and he was selling his own countrymen into slavery. I thought he would sell his own mother and make a deal with devil if there were money in either. Now he suddenly exposes Japanese spies like a good citizen ( instead of making deal with them to have his business secured with the upcoming invasion like I expected him to do)
I want to see his face when he shows up at HQ of the Navy to claim his reward from the commander and sees who the commander is.

and the captain of the sado garrison....he must be an ancestor of monkey man...he just has to be. If monkey man is a character from AOW I'm assuming, then I think you have your history mixed up. AOW's koryo dynasty....which means 600-700 years earlier than YSS's time. So the captain can't be monkeyman's ancestor. You mean to say it's the other way around. lol

He may just be a descendant to you, but he's Monkeyman Jr. to me. ;D Yeah, I think Sado captain is just one of Monkeyman's sons. lol That Sado Captain, Mr. Kim I heard is popluar among korean viewers from korea. I like him too, he reminds me of comic relief but...black comedy...like in Shakespeare. He always has something clever to say when he's always juxtapositioned against the (i forget his name) commander of....(I won't say because possible spoiler). hee hee

Hahaha.. Men, your monkey-man dialogue is delightful. From episode 43, Hong became one of my favorite evil characters. ;D I cannot hate her even though she is a Japanese spy. She is cunning and diabolic, but at the same time, clever and courageous. On the contrary, I detest ¢æhunsu. Hong's real name is Akai. I guess Akai is a corresponding word of Hong in Japanese language. Hong signifies "red". Perhaps, her name would symbolize the character's nature. One geographic information : From around Ep. 40, Chunsu & co. are living at Wae-Gwan (Japanese Village) in Busan Port, Kyungsang province (also spelled as Gyeongsang province / south-east of Korea). The Chosunese merchants could trade with Japaneses only in this officially approved international trade center. The siege of Busan was the first battle of Imjin war. This area is under the command of Left Kyungsang Naval Station. YSS is Commander of Left Cholla Naval Station in south-west of Korea. (Viva for YSS !)

Chun Su looks annoying but he's better than being a freakin' Japanese spy like that deceiving Hong. She has no idea what the Japanese are gonna do when they reach Chosun...and she's helping 'em do it. The captain of Sado is a funny one. He means well, but doesn't work very hard and isn't competent...and it is only a year before the Japanese invade... The only person that does anything right is of course, Yi Soon Shin . I will probably mention in every post that he is my hero and one of the greatest men to have ever walked the earth... It's also too bad that Soon Shin and Won Gyun who were once childhood friends become military rivals trying to outshine one another. Soon Shin's raise of 6 ranks in one promotion from a town magistrate is unreasonable but oh well... I actually felt bad for a Japanese when Rikku, the teamaster, committed suicide and had one of Hideyoshi's guards behead him...is he not the only decent Japanese pacifist in the whole drama? The final words of truth he spoke...went through one ear and out the other. In his final speech, he gave foreshadowing words to the outcome of the Imjin war and of course, Hideyoshi doesn't listen. If he did, then there would've been no war, but there would've also been no man named 'Yi Soon Shin'-just another guy in history who was a bit extraordinary but whose greatness was never fully revealed because there was no war. Just something to think about.

what happened to hong (aka akai)? did chun su turn her in as well or is he still holding her captive? did i miss this or has it not been shown? I guess you viewed the scene of Chusu confining Hong in a rice depository. He tortures her with water and beats her. He forces Hong confession about J-spies' meeting places, but she doesn't yield. (And... to be continued in Ep. 45 about Hong's fate.) pakyownage4eva : Didn't you notice that Kimura (male J-spy) addressed Hong with honorific expressions ? It signifies she is a Japanese woman and a spy of high rank. Even though she is a J-spy sent by Konishi Yukinaga, I felt pity for her in her captive scenes. Of course, she is as evil as Chunsu. But I prefer her to Chunsu. Perhaps it's partly due to the fact that I have viewed what you haven't seen yet. And I often like diabolic female characters. Hmm.. Hmm... ;D I said she is one of my favorite EVIL characters. Among wicked fellows, Yun Du-Su is the greatest. ;D I admire the actor's role interpretation (even though I don't like Minister Yun). Because he makes himself hated by everyone !

(And... to be continued in Ep. 45 about Hong's fate.) I didn't see that scene. Was it in 43? (which I missed) Silly me. I thought that the Japanese were holding her for some reason. So those men are working for Chun-su. I was never sure how Hong fit in with Chun-su and Mujik. My first impression was that she and Mujik were an item. But it was never really clear. I suppose she would have picked him because he is easier to manipulate than Chun-su. A pair of travelling merchants would make good companions for a spy.
