No one seems to think Im Kukjung or Jang Gilsan are fictional characters, but Hong Gildong is perceived as such perhaps because, like I said, he uses magic and stuff.

May I ask how long you've been living in Korea? You seem to know great deal about K-historical persons. I can understand why florel is expert on this field .. She was force know everything about K history

Hi, Florel--I hope we see you again here. I put a link to this thread (in "Choko's gift) in the Generals Board. Bo Hi, Bo. Glad see you again. I finally come back after having passed very busy period. Since my return to Paris, I couldn't have seen one episode of K-dramas or a movie. Now I'm planning to view "Marie Antoinette" even though it's severely criticized by French mass-media and French spectators. And then... perhaps "Seoul 1945" that I stopped viewing after around episode 30's. I'm trying to continue this board and another one. But, for the moment, I'm so tired that I need to take rest. I'll continue my chronicles sooner or later. ;D

32) Tears of the Dragon (KBS, 1996-1998)- producer : Kim Jae-Hyung - writer : Yi Hwan-Kyung - original novel : Park Jong-Hwa, "The Great King Sejong" - 1388-1418(or 1422?) - The original novel covers until the reign of King Sejong. But the drama finishes with the end of King Taejong's reign or with his death. - Kim Mu-Saeng was starred as King Taejo Yi Sung-Gye, founder of Chosun dynasty. He also played the same role in "The King of Chudong Palace (1983)" in the series "500 Years of Chosun Dynasty". He was also famous as with his role of admiral Yi Soon-Shin in "Imjin Waeran (1985-1986)". - Related threads : Tears of the Dragon ?some information : TEARS OF THE DRAGON Queen Won-Kyung and King Taejong Casting- Yi Sung-Gye (King Taejo) : Kim Mu-Saeng (Yi Soon-Shin in "Imjin Waeran") - Yi Bang-Won (King Taejong) : Yu Dong-Geun (Daewongun in "Empress Myung-seong") - Queen Won-Kyung (spouse of King Taejong) : Choi Myung-Gil (Queen Myung-seong in "Empress Myung-seong") - Chung Do-Jeon : Kim Heung-Ki (Chung Jung-Bu in "AOW") - Prince Yang-Nyong (eldest son of King Taejong) : Lee Min-Woo (Chung Kyun in "AOW")

33) The King and the Queen (Wang gwa Bi, KBS, 1998) - producer : Kim Jong-Seon - writer : Chung Ha-Yeon ("Shin Don") - Second half of 15th century. - One more drama about King Sejo ("the King") and his daughter-in-law Queen In-Su ("the Queen"). - I couldn't see this drama, so I cannot compare it with previous Prince Su-yang stuffs in 80's and early 90's. But, I read interesting articles on web about this drama. The drama writer was criticized by some South Korean TV viewers because he was considered as glamorizing King Sejo and his coup. Especially, the writer was engaged in verbal duels against Yi Duk-Il, well-known non-academic historian (but now in academy lol) who criticized his historical interpretation. This controvesy was not a novelty. The same kind of debates aldready existed fiften years ago. Casting- King Sejo : Im Dong-Jin (Yang Man-chun in "Dae Jo-young") - Queen Jung-hee (spouse of King Sejo) : Han Hye-Sook - Queen Insu (aka Queen So-Hye) : Chae Shi-Ra (Madam Jami in "Emperor of the Sea") - Kim Jong-Suh : Cho Kyung-Hwan (Namgung Du in "IYSS") - Han Myung-Hoe : Choi Jong-Won - King Danjong : Chung Tae-Woo (King Danjong in "Han Myung-Hoe") - King Munjong (father of King Danjong) : Jeon Mu-Song (Duduel in "AOW") - Grand Prince Je-ahn* : Pak Chan-Hwan (Kwon Jun in "IYSS") - Prince Yeonsan : Ahn Jae-Mo * Cf. Grand Prince Je-ahn was son of King Yejong who was second son of King Sejo. But he was excluded from the royal succession. The famous Chang Nok-Su, concubine of Prince Yeon-san, was a domestic slave of Prince Je-ahn. - N. B. It was the thrid time that Chung Tae-Woo played again King Danjong (1441-1457, reigned between 1452-1455), the tragic king dethroned by his uncle, Prince Su-yang who became King Sejo. I don't know when and in which drama he played the same role in the second time. I only heard that it was an one-act drama. (Does anyone know ?) His first King Danjong role was in "Han Myung-Hoe (1994)". Anyway, from then on, he became a specialist of the dethroned king. He was King Hui-jong in "AOW" and the Crown Prince of Prince Gwang-hae in "King's Woman" (2002). He also played King Injong in "Women in the Palace". King Injong was not dethroned, but possibly poinsoned by his step-mother. King Danjong (Chung Tae-Woo) and his spouse in "The King and the queen" (1998) Chung Tae-Woo as the Crown Prince, son of Prince Gwanghae in "King's Woman" (2003) Too much Tae-Woo's photos ? Yes, I'm his fan. ;D Queen Insu (Chae Shi-Ra) and Han Myoung-Hoe Prince Yeosan and his grandmom Queen Insu (Chae Shi-Ra) Prince Yeosan and his grandmom Queen Insu (Chae Shi-Ra)

I have a good news. Jung Tae-Woo (or Chung Tae-Woo) will come back in the historical drama world. (In many websites, he name is spelled as Jung Tae-Woo. So I'll adopt this romanization from now on.) After his role of Emperor Hui-jong in AOW, Jung Tae-Woo annonced his "retirement" from historical dramas. (related discussion in p. 3 of this thread) But he takes back his former words and he will play a role of prince in the new historical drama "Dae Jo-Young". I wish he wouldn't be expelled or killed by his relatives this time. ;D Jung Tae-Woo's interview (in Korean) Good decision, Tae-Woo. You're much better in historical dramas than in modern soaps.

36) The Thunder Rolls (Chundung Sori, KBS, 2000)- screen writer : Son Young-Mok - producer : Lee Sang-Woo - original novel : "Huh Kyun, the last nineteen days" of Kim Tak-Hwan (author of "The Immortal Yi Soon-Shin") - About Huh Kyun (1569-1618), reformer and novelist under the reign of Prince Gwang-hae. He wrote the famous "History of Hong Gil-Dong". cast- Huh Kyun : Choi Jae-Sung (Won Kyun in "IYSS") - Sung-Ok : Choi Jung-Yun - Prince Gwang-hae : Kim Ju-Seung - Prince Im-hae : Lee Won-Bal (Yun Geun-Su in "IYSS") - Yi Dal : Chung Dong-Hwan (Yun Du-Su in "IYSS") - Yi Yi-Cheom : Seon Dong-Hyuk (Jurchen chief in "IYSS") - Kwon Phil : Kim Myung-Su (Wakisaka in "IYSS") 37) Mok Min Shim Suh (KBS, 2000-2001)- producer : Shin Jae-Guk - writer : Yi Hyang-Hee - original novel : "Mok Min Shim Suh" of Hwang In-Kyung - Late 18th - Early 19th century. - Historical documentary drama based on a modern novel about Jung Yak-Yong (1762-1836), famous scholar of the pragmatical confucianism ( silhak) in late Chosun period. Often called with his pen name "Dasan". He was in exile during 17 years (1801-1818) because he was involved in a catholic persecution along with his older brother Jung Yak-Jeon (1758-1816). - "Mok Min Shim Suh (1817-22)" is Dasan's most famous book written between 1817-22. It's a treatise on good government. Dasan wrote 500 books during his 17 years of exile. - Kim Kyu-Chul (Chun-Su in "IYSS") played Jung Yak-Jeon, brother of the hero. Jung Yak-Jeon was a catholic southerner scholar (his christian name was John ). Exiled to Heuk-san Island in 1801 during catholic persecution. Died in 1817 without being released from his exile during which he passed time studying fishes. Therefore it's not astonishing that he became the most famous fish specialist in Korean history. cast- Jung Yak-Yong : Lee Jin-Woo - Jung Yak-Jeon : Kim Kyu-Chul (Im Chun-su in "IYSS") - King Jeong-jo : Kim Heung-Ki (Chung Jung-bu in "AOW") - Jung Yak-Yong is one of my favorite historical personnages. I heard that it was a good drama. I'm really sorry that I missed it.
