Well... for sheer "intensity" , I don't think any K-drama beats FIRST LOVE! Even with its faults, and there are a few, FIRST LOVE is still the best I have ever seen! Just consider the lineup...Choi Su-jong (Fans of Wang Guhn and On the Prairie should really see him in this one! ) Bae Young-jun (Winter Sonata fans, take note!) Lee Seung-yun (she was born to play the role of Lee Hyo-kyung!), Choi Ji-woo (again for Winter Sonata fans, this drama first paired BYJ and CJW, just that fact alone should stir interest in K-drama fans!)...plus the superb acting of Park Sang Won...and pretty much everybody else in this 66-episode series....(too short in my opinion...it should have continued for at least another 200 one-hour episodes!) Oh man, I don't think I will ever see a more appealing TV drama couple than Sung Chan-hyuk (Choi Su-jong) and Lee Hyo-kyung (Lee Seung-yun)....They actually spent little time with each other throughout the series, which made their scenes together all the more special! But they had such amazing chemistry! Oh man, the memorable scenes btw the two....Ohhhh...the hospital scene in eps. 18, the wedding fantasy sequence in eps. 23...the tragic accident in eps. 50...and the truly heartbreaking encounter in eps. 66..... I don't recall seeing any couple so much in love! None of the couples in YH can match their appeal! Oh, you just wanted these two to get back together! Oh, and for OMR fans, an additional treat! From watching OMR, we all know that Jo Kyung Hwan is this good-natured, devoted teddy bear of a family man Suh Dong-pyo... Well...in FIRST LOVE, he is the villainous Lee Jae-ha, although kind to his loving daughter, Hyo-kyung, he is a ruthless businessman, and the nemesis of Sung Chan-woo (Bae Young-jun) brother of Chan-hyuk. If OMR fans thought Kwei-boon and Mal-bong were really nasty to oppose Min-jae, Lee Jae-ha and his sidekick brother-in-law Song Wan-ki were 10-times worse in their violent opposition to Sung Chan-hyuk! A very very powerful drama and perhaps the best ever! Oh and as a final footnote, K-drama fans here are probably aware that Choi Su-Jong is the real-life husband of Ha Hee-ra (Mon-hee in TBWY!)

I've been watching the K-dramas for several years. YH was my favorite. I'm still hoping someday that it will be available to purchase (w/English sub-titles of course ) Ooooooooo ;D ;D Well let me say this (even though it might have been said 20 billion times heh. Hands down YH is one of the best if not the best (in my opinion) K-drama that I have ever seen. Ummm that being said and not comparing the two, OMR is still a good drama, it has a good plot, characters, and plenty of plot twists ;D that kept me on the edge of my seat. However ;D if anyone can find YH for sale with english subs PLEASE POST A MESSAGE OR SEND ME A MESSAGE...heh ^^ i know everyone here will be very happy. YH will remain in all of our heats as we felt for all the characters ( I always listen to the soundtrack...^^ good time good times) Umm and if anyone could tell me if I can find the OMR sound track please let me know. Thank you all and keep watching thoses dramas. ;D ;D Oh yea one more thing just to let you guys know I just got this Korean drama called ALL IN I am not finished with it yet but GO SEE IT!!!! I MEAN IT you can find it on the internet for sale ...believe me from what I have seen soo far it is well worth it VERY GOOD

To WinterBallad.... That is one reason that I gave up American Soaps... No endings! I watched All My Children, One Life to Live & General Hospital for many many years. My co-workers cannot stand that I ONLY watch K-dramas now. Another reason for dumping the American Soaps was the total lack of morality. Eventually EVERYONE sleeps with everyone else. Everyone gets a chance to have amnesia. Everyone has a child that shows up out of the woodwork. There is nothing left to the imagination. K-dramas give so much more... There are life lessons to be learned from them. There is understanding & forgiveness lessons, sometimes so subtle you do not realize what you are learning. I enjoy discussions about K-dramas... So many differences of opinions. I have been swayed by other's points of view. K-dramas... definitely!

Essentially, I can only add to what others have said -- I've given up on the US daily dramas for the same reasons others have expressed --- they run on and on w/o end or conclusion and push the envelope by doing more and more outrageous and far-fetched things, i.e. everybody and his brother coming back from the dead, sci-fi scenarios and disgusting plots like murders, rapes, etc. They've just completely lost the tradition of plain, old-fashioned, solid story-telling w/ good acting and riveting drama that holds audience attention. Instead, the US dramas rely almost exclusively on stunts and sensationalism these days.
I've watched all the same soaps as N.Sheldon mentioned, and have given up on them, one at a time, over the years. I just recently abandoned the last US soap I was watching. Once I got hooked on YH, I just had no palate left for the crazy stuff they do on US soaps. Even if I don't find OMR as compelling and exciting as YH, it's still leagues better than anything on the major networks daytime schedule.
I also just wanted to mention I'm enjoying OMR more and more the last few weeks. I really think the action is starting to pick up and I'm eager to see how some of these problems will resolve and play out. I wasn't as excited about it the first couple of months, but it's growing on me more all the time most definitely!

Mikey,
TBWY was the first korean drama I ever watched. I was sad when it ended. After seeing the Yellow Handkerchief, and now seeing TBWY as a re-run, I know as we all do, Yellow Handkerchief is the BEST!!!
Moon-hee is a sweet girl. I can't stand the way Min-sung's Mother treats her. After watching a total of almost 3 of the korean dramas, I think all the mothers in the dramas are just jealous of the women who become #1 in their sons lives. There seems to be a lot of that same thing going on in the United States!
What I mean is, it would not matter who the son wanted to marry! Some mothers think that it is strange for their son to love a girl more than the mother.
The episode I saw the other night on One Million Roses, the Grandmother of Min-jae and H (not sure of spelling of her other grandson), said "she could not believe that her own son loved his wife more than his mother" Don't mothers like this realize that the love of a mother, and the love of a wife or partner is different?
Any advice from the man's point of view on this subject would be helpful.

Jade Eyes,
I am also starting to really enjoy One Million Roses. It just seemed to happen with all of the last week's shows. I am anxious to see what happens on Monday night. The beginning shows were okay, but now that I know who everyone is, I look forward to seeing how all their lives progress.
I was going to skip this drama, and wait until the next one started. I am glad I kept watching because the show is gtting much better now.

Any advice from the man's point of view on this subject would be helpful. Jean Well, Jean, I’m not sure that my manly opinion is worth a hill of beans, but I think you’re absolutely correct that the love a man feels for his mother is very different from the romantic love he feels for his chosen woman. I also believe that, everything else being equal, a man’s first obligation is to his wife, and not his mother (however, this does not suggest that a perfectly healthy wife should be offended if her husband chooses to care for his ailing mother instead of taking his wife to the movies. Things like that can reasonably shift one’s priorities around). However, I wonder if my (American) attitude towards marriage is different from the traditional Asian way of doing things. We all know that elders are accorded greater respect in Asia than they are in western societies, and perhaps what we’re seeing is a kind of generational clash, where the traditionally-minded mother expects that they should be accorded the position of greatest respect, while their sons are coming to embrace the more westernized concept of the husband/wife relationship. Just a theory, though.

I agree 1000000%. That was the best drama I have seen yet on KBS. I was like "what will happen next?" Young- Joon and Ja- Young were the best couple ever. Sad, but the best. That story would make me so mad or happy some nights that I wouldn't be able to sleep. LOL!

I agree, OMR hasn't quite topped YH, but it's getting to be a lovely drama. Hyun-Kyu is quite the character in the beginning, but he settles down. Min-Jae is very vindictive, and Hye-Sung & Yu-Kyung make the cutest couple (but Tae-Woong and Sun-Ho were even cuter in Home Sweet Home (On the Prairie)!) YH is probably one of the best Korean dramas I have seen, I mean, it has basically everything a drama should have, without going over the top. Oh, how I miss YH Do you think we could go on a strike or something to make the broadcasting network bring back YH??? BC2005 "and this one time, at band camp....."

YH is a more sentimental drama, I think....but OMR combines a lot of major sub-plots...I am so intrigued...can't wait to see another 5 previews on soompi.com this coming Saturday nite....and the synopsis on the KBS TV english site keeps me even more intrigued...why does such-and-such have a scar on her forehead? Inquiring minds want to know.... YH has the advantage of being finished, so you can judge it more accurately, while OMR probably has another 20 or more (maybe even 50 or more) before it finishes up...only then can fairly compare it with YH....
