This may make a lot of folks angry but I have to say it. One Million Roses cannot outshine Yellow Handkerchief. This is true in all aspects, from plots to the actors.

Ooooooh, looks like somebody’s tryin’ to stir the pot!
Actually, I think most of us agree that Yellow Handkerchief was a truly outstanding drama. And I think we’ve all accepted the fact that YH was a drama that won’t be topped anytime soon.
As to the merits of OMR, well, that’s a matter of opinion. I can’t say I *love* it the way I loved YH – but it’s not that bad, either. It still has all those crappy American TV dramas beat.
That’s good enough for me -- Mikey

That's why I decided I won't compare other dramas to YH, unless something truly exceptional comes along.
That said, and limiting my comparisons to the daily dramas, OMR is definitely neck-and-neck with my second favorite drama, 'So this is Love'. The plot is bubbling right along, the charaters are entertaining, and, as I like to say, it is 'juicy'. We shall see if they can keep it up.

I'm glad I stuck w/the drama, if only for these episodes where the whole Hyun-Ku/Hye-ran/Minjae thing. Yesterday's episode (I think #29 or #30) was especially good. Minjae is a really good actor.
I also agree that YH was a superb drama from the very first episode. And it ended in such a way that none of us could have predicted. I love it when that happens.
But I'm with mikey, I'll take what I can get. I like the fact that you know these dramas will end. I'd hate to be an avid fan of one of those American soaps, I bet they die and they still don't get to see how it ended!

I was one of those American day time drama fans.. For about 25 years!! Since I found these K-dramas I have given up the day time soaps. We in California saw episode 43 last nite. I'm really into OMR but I don't know if I will ever feel the same passion I did with YH. I've been watching the K-dramas for several years. YH was my favorite. I'm still hoping someday that it will be available to purchase (w/English sub-titles of course )

I hope Min jae wakes up & finds that he truly does love Yu jin .. I like Hye ran with Hyun kyu. They seem better matched. And Min jae & Yu jin would make a beautiful couple I check an asian web site every couple weeks. Just in case they ever put YH out there w/subtitles for sale. I'm sure there would be a rush on that. Seems that was a favorite among many....

The thing is, how good would the subtitles be? If they were produced in Asia, they likely wouldn't be KTE's or Michael's. I remember once telling the owner of a Korean gift shop that I watched Darumas, and he went off on how the translations were no good, how they were just done with computers, etc. I sort of assumed he must have been talking about subtitled DVDs from Asia.
On the other hand, the English on the English section of KBS's Web site is very good. But the entire run of a daily drama, over 150 episodes, more than three days of continuous viewing, would likely cost a bit.

I feel the same as others about OMR. To me, it's no where near as exciting or compelling as YH. On a scale of 1-10, I'd probably rate it a 6.7. But the person who says it still beats US daytime dramas, I'm with you 100%. I was following one US soap for a while before I discovered duramas, and I can't stomach the US one anymore. I tune in now and then and it's just so dumb and unappealing.
Even though I feel only fair-to-middlin' about OMR, still I like it many times better than anything comparable on the US market. It's so refreshing to see a story can take place in the "real world" and still be worth following and tuning in every day.

;D actually sorry for the yh fans...but i prefer 1,000,000 roses. but, don't get me wrong, i loved yh and tried not to miss an episode. but that was because of the fact that it was supposed to end. i think, and this is strictly an opinion, that the character of sang-min was quite dumb. i mean, he just didn't do anything. except for in the end when i thought he was going to die. well, 1 mill has certainly proved to me that it is great competition for yh. also, lee tae-ran a.k.a. Yoon Ja-young was just great, but the plot line seemed to go on when they could have cut this off in 70 episodes.

I am enjoying drama One Million Roses, but I still feel it does not compare to Yellow Handkerchief. OMR is a good story, as all the Korean dramas seem to be, but Yellow Handkerchief was exceptional in actors/actresses, and the storyline. I have been watching OMR most every night, but I still don't have the same feeling if I miss an episode of the OMR, as I did when I missed the Yellow Handkerchief. I think you know what I am talking about.
If anyone finds the Yellow Handkerchief on tape in English subtitles, please let me know. I am really interested in seeing the show again, and again...............
Has anyone been watching "To Be With You" on Monday to Fridays from 11:00 - 11:35 AM? I have been taping it, but missed a few shows. It takes up soooooooooooo many vhs tapes. I have actually been taping over movies that I taped from the TV long ago. I figure I can at least buy or rent these american movies if I wanted to see them again. Not sure if TBWY will ever be re-runed again. I hope so because I have missed several episodes.
Hope everyone is doing well. Talk to you again soon.
Jean

This may make a lot of folks angry but I have to say it. One Million Roses cannot outshine Yellow Handkerchief. This is true in all aspects, from plots to the actors. Well...Yellow Handkerchief is a great show, with appealing characters and a great storyline (not quite as good as FIRST LOVE, but just a couple of notches below....) from what I have seen so far (81 eps. ) of One Million Roses, I think it can hold its own... but only time will tell (when it's finished) if it is equal or superior to YH....But in terms of the characters, I don't think YH has any couple (no, not even Young-Joon and Ja-Young) more appealing than Min-jae and Yu-jin! Other couples in OMR are almost just as good! Hye-Sung and Yu-kyung provide a light-hearted, humorous touch that YH didn't have...and add Tae-ho and Soon-ok, as well....If I could say anything to put OMR over the top, I would have to mention that OMR is a drama with a good sense of humor, something sorely lacking in YH!

I love OMR... But in the 6 or more years I have been watching the K-dramas, NONE have gotten my emotional attention as YH... ... I love the humor they have given OMR which means, after watching a pitiful scene with Min jae being mistreated, they will go to the landlord or Hye ran's brother. I have to burst into laughter at them. This is a great drama to watch. But I wouldn't purchase it if given the chance. I would YH.

I think what set YH apart from all the others is its "intensity." It really kept me on the edge of my seat sometimes.
OMR is a good drama, and the relationships between the characters (especially, as noted, Min-jae and Yu-jin) are quite interesting. But, if I missed an episode of OMR, it would not be that big a deal. I'd just play catch-up come the next episode. Missing an episode of YH, though, would have been really distressing!
Jean, "To Be With You" was shown in Los Angeles last year, and I really enjoyed it. I’d rank it at about the same quality level as OMR. Han Moon-hee is *such* a sweet girl, no?
