Interesting choice of words for a title.

Looks like they're starting the show with Wihwado retreat? That's good news since that means it won't be repeating most of the contents covered in Jeong Dojeon. I think Wihwado Retreat was covered around Episode 30 in Jeong Dojeon, so it would mean everything before Jeong Dojeon Ep 30 won't be covered in this drama

Tears of the Dragon also started with the Wihwado Retreat.

Is it me, or does Kim Yeongcheol sound different?

Yes the retreat was in the second half of JD. Started in episode 26 and culminated with that terrific urban-warfare sequence in episode 27. The story behind the retreat is really interesting so hopefully they'll at least offer some narrated text or some flashbacks to present it concisely.
Thanks MTR for checking on the availability. I had forgotten about Kocowa; glad to hear they'll make it available. I can't tell if they're going to offer it free with ads or limit it only to paid subscribers. If it's the latter, then the cheapest way to watch the series looks to be with a $1 daily membership each week, and watch the latest two episodes within the 24 hours. That will get the whole series for $16. But we'll see.
Whichever it is, I'll watch the first two episodes as quickly as possible and start doing episode threads here. No summaries, just some comments to get them started. I'll do a character roster too.
Most likely the episodes will end up on DramaCool pretty quickly also. But DramaCool has become really unpleasant with all of the pop-up ads and tabs. And I don't mind coughing up a few bucks to show support for a new historical (or sit through some ads on an official site) so no DramaCool on this one.

AKJ pretty sure Kokawa is subscription only for TV but has freebies on-line . Its interesting the network is jointly owned by KBS,MBC and SBS so it won't go the way of Dramafever . I totally agree with you on Dramacool its tough to watch . I am all for giving Kokawa seven bucks a month .

I'm annoyed.
That it took this long for a KBS traditional historical series to get picked up by a streaming service while it was airing.
Jeong Dojeon and Jingbirok didn't get it, Jang Yeongsil had at least one episode on KBS' official youtube channel.
And I'm not sure I want to subscribe to another streaming service when I'm enrolled in others already. Especially since I don't think one show is worth a subscription for a service-especially since it is unlikely I'll watch the other shows. Now I could cancel my service after the show, yes, but I'm still losing money.
I wonder how bearable the commericals will be.

Yim Ho, the actor of Jeong Mongju in KBS Jeong Dojeon, teaching how to act like a traditonal historical character to an idol singer
This is some hilarious stuff lol
Not related to this drama, but thought I'd post this here since this board is somewhat of a traditonal historical fan board.

Well that was different! Thanks truth. Wish it had been subbed but we get the idea. Hope she doesn't quit her day job for this...although it got better as it went along.
They actually filled most of the cups and bowls with liquid, which they dont do in the real shows. Made me laugh. But they dubbed in the recorder sound? You can teach someone to play a couple of notes on a recorder in about five seconds.
And they went right to that poles-through-the-legs torture that I never have seen a proper explanation for--of all of the cliches they could have picked that was a funny one.
Im Ho looks great for 50 doesn't he? And now the best part, this reminded me of seeing a little clip of him playing Sado in a 1998 drama...and I took a quick look around and found the drama online with English subs! It's on one of the free sites with all of the pop-ups, and it was taken from an Arirang broadcast so it may be all hacked up for their time slots. But whatever, it's a great find and we'll definitely do the drama here someday soon. Very stoked to find this!

The only other Im Ho drama that old that's available is Jang Hee Bin 1995, which happens to be written by the same writer as the 1998 drama (his dad)
