so for those who are searching for something to fill the void left by the end of age of warriors
or for those who just enjoy historical films about koryo
buy a copy of this movie!!!!
starring kyung dae seung (aka pak young woo) as an interpreter, zhang ziyi as the Ming princess and some other striking actors, this movie is a gorgeously filmed piece of cinema mildly reminescent of akira kurosawa.
oh, and ID - the koryo can speak CHINESE (how ya like dem apples?)
Filmed with both korean and chinese actors, Musa (the warrior) has everything - harrowing battles, nobles stories of self sacrifice, and even a hint (but only a hint) of romance)
and guess what, the main warrior - yeo sul - is a freed slave. when he is called a slave still by one of the arrogant generals, guess who he brings up?
manjok
i have never cried so much at a movie. though only a few hours in length, the actors do such a stellar job and the script is so beautifully written, that i literally bawled out loud during the ending.
a truly truly beautiful film - watch it once. i bet you will fall in love with it.
MUSA - the warrior
in the 14th century, Koryo was a vassal state of the Ming empire. a convoy sent to China is drawn into a trap and the Ming take the soldiers, emissaries and common men as prisoner. as they trek across the desert, bound with chains, they are ambushed by the Mongols. though their empire was fading, the yuan mongols still posed a considerable threat to the Ming. During the ambush the koryo escape but not before the general sees the Mongol's prize - the beautiful princess of Ming (Zhang Ziyi) Bent on rescuing her, the general orders an attack and succeeds in freeing her, planning to take her back to the capital and thereby regain his honor. Though the journey is fraught with divided opinions and mixed emotions, the close bonds formed between those of different ranks, social classes and nationalities are powerfully felt and in the end, they show all that is best in mankind. Filmed amidst a breathtaking desert background and a moving musical score, you will feel as though were with the small group of foreigners throughout their trials.
"only one who has had a long journey can see the long road home"
