I actually came here earlier to write up on episode 17 but answering your questions tired me out, Birdy. So I had to rest before continuing on. Okay. Episode 17. First off, I just have to say Seung Yu's little niece is sooo adorable. She plays SiWon (of Super Junior) character's daughter in "Oh My Lady" drama. Very cute. So... Se Ryeong gets everything Princess Gyeong Hye left in her dressing room??? Okay, this maybe when I would start liking being a princess... The princess costume the maids put on Se Ryeong is just gorgeous!! I'm really liking Se Ryeong again. I just loved it when she tells her parents that she was never going to marry and that they can't boss her around any more. And when she tells Myeon that her heart has never once been moved by him. Is Myeon really just DENSE or what?? He asks Se Ryeong if she prefers a dead man to him. Uh yeah! - if she loves the dead man and hates the live one - HELLO?!! (and besides she knows Seung Yu is not dead... ) That one scene really kills me... when they're all hanging out in the courtyard and Seung Yu says he's prepared to lay down his life for the chance to kill Su Yang, and how Se Ryeong is right there and hears him. Really?? Why not take an ad out in the Joseon Journal?? Myeon is right behind her. He could've easily been the one to have heard!! Geezzzzzz!!... p.s. Birdy, if you come across any of these actors in your various variety shows, will you let me know? - Park Si Hoo - So Ji Sub - Joo Sang Wook - Lee Joon Gi - Lee Seo Jin - Jang Geun Suk - Gwon Sang Woo - Park Shin Hye - Gu Hye Sun - Sung Yu Ri (I expect you to have this list memorized!!! )

First of all, LOVED you post with all my questions/answers-- my first thought was "Wow, that Fiona is really into that copying/pasting thing" ......but thanks for all your feedback. My only comment back is that when Se Reyoung stepped in front of the arrow, I think I was thinking of another meaning for it because it was SO TYPICAL-- as soon as I saw them point the arrows at Seung YU, I just knew what was going to happen. Kinda of a let down in a drama that is so good. I, too just love Seung YU's neice, when she called out "Uncle is that really you", I thought I was gonna cry! I am glad everyone is trying to talk Seung Yu out of being a cold blooded killer, really doesn't make him any better than Su Yang and his group. I cringe every time he swings his sword and someone falls over dead-- not very believeable, but I certainly don't want to see more blood! I think I had the opposite thought about when Se Reyoung went into the former Princess's room-- I was thinking "How could she just leave everything there?" "How could I ever live in a roon filled with someone else's stuff?" Yeah, I would like all the clothes and all the servents, though..... The end scene where Se Reyoung over hears the plans to kill her father was so stupid-- why would they ever talk about such a thing in the open!?!?! Afterall, their first attempt at trying something at Se Reyoung/Myeon's wedding fell apart because someone heard of the plan. Think they would have learned their lesson! Finally, I will keep your list close to hand (on a piece of paper-- no way I could memorize all that-- except So Ji Sub's name ), do you want current episodes or even if I run across a "old" episode? Gotta promise me you will watch the WHOLE episode though.....

Hey Birdy, I took a sneak peek at "Absolute Boyfriend" cause one of my fave actresses Gu Hye Sun is in it. It's a Taiwanese drama but it looks really good, and both lead actors are pretty cute. Any interest?? Nine episodes are out so far... I checked out the descriptipn of "Absolute Boyfriend) and she is one of my favorite actresses, too. Just by reading the description the Taiwanese version sounds better than the Japanese live action version. The storyline doesn't work for K-Dramas or I think we would have seen a K-Drama version a long time ago. p.s. Birdy, if you come across any of these actors in your various variety shows, will you let me know? - Park Si Hoo Maybe if it's an old appearance but I doubt you'll be seeing PSH in anything new anytime soon.

Both of you guys crack me up so much!!! You see, I really didn't see this coming. I thought Seung Yu was gonna get a dozen arrows stuck in him and like Superman that he is, was gonna jump right up the next day and go fight another good fight. Could NOT agree with you more... I mean even now but especially back then isn't there like an honor system or something among men where you're considered like a coward and contemptible if you cut down an opponent who is unarmed? And yet our HERO is going around killing IN COLD BLOOD these men who have nothing to defend themselves with. Hmm, not cool... So basically our Seung Yu is nothing more than a murderer now. Please don't. I was joking really. I mean if you HAPPEN to know that I like the person who is appearing fine, but don't keep a list next to you (if you're serious). And no, I don't care if it's old or current. Thank you!! (And no, I really can't do a full episode, please don't make me!!...) Episode 18 This episode was very good. I'm really liking the princess/prince consort couple more and more. When the princess tells her husband to be sure to come back alive I started crying. I think it's the first time I cried over a second lead couple. It was so sad - I just imagine myself and my husband in the same situation. I don't know how women did it back then, when their husbands are constantly going to battle. On the other hand, I started laughing when the young king faction was sitting in a circle at a meeting and all of a sudden that one guy just whips his sword out to say he was ready for the battle next day. I was like, "Whoa dude!" I would've been hopping mad if I had been the guy sitting on his left side. What the heck!! And please!! - did you see how Seung Yu was walking around in broad daylight after the failed assassination of Su Yang - he was still in his all-black assassin/ninja outfit with the bandana/mask slung around his neck!! Why not just tattoo the word "assassin" on his forehead?? Oh. Right. That would mar his perfect face. What was I thinking!! I know you, being more kind-hearted than I, have some sympathy for Myeon, Birdy, but I can't stand that guy. In the beginning of the drama when they were all buddies I thought for a second that he was sorta cute. But now he looks like a toad to me. He gives me the total creeps. Ohmgosh, I LOVED the way this episode ended. When Seung Yu slowly pulls down his mask and the horror and disbelief in Myeon's eyes. The slow zooming in of the camera, the MUSIC, the beautiful music... then the dramatic split-screen freeze that never fails to thrill me... WOW!!... I watched the ending over and over...

Watched ep 18 today-- Laughed at the scene when the guy whipped out his sword, because it may me think of your comment! When I saw the other guy's faces, I thought they were thinking "Why didn't I whip out my sword like that?" "That looked so cool, like he was really ready to fight for the ex-king" As far as Myeon... I kinda feel sorry for him, he reminds me of so many women in these types of dramas-- always doing what he/she is told to do: Who to marry, When you can/can't leave the house... ect. At LEAST he is not running around slicing throats like Se Yeung (Uh Oh, My love of bad boys is poppin up again! Not just Big Bang bad boys!?!?!) I will give Se Yeung props for only wanting to kill Su Yang and not his whole family, like Su Yang did. It was interesting watching Se Yeung waver a bit on what he wanted to do when he thinks about killing Se Reyoung's father. The one thing that really bothers me about Se Reyoung these days is how she is constanly running off somewhere--like she has ever solved a problem-- she just keeps causing more.....I can't believe on the day of the banquet, her mother tells her to stay in the palace and two seconds later she is off and running to see the former Princess (and once again changing her clothes-- like that worked out well the first time!) I thought it was a bit strange that she was able to leave with out any guards-- after all she is a princess now, shouldn't she have had guards? Especially since there is an assasin running around and her already being kidnapped once!! When all the "guys" were sitting around planning their attack at the banquet, they didn't seem that old-- but when they showed the guy standing next to Su Yang he looked soooo old! Really that was the best they could do!?!??! I agree with you about Seung Yu walking around town all dressed in his Ninja outfit (reminds me of Naruto) and NOBODY seems to think it is a big deal.... But the ending-- yes, perfect, can't wait to see what happens next. Once again, the music is just great-- even not knowing the lyrics, the feelings are so recognizable!

No, he was just betraying all his friends left and right and stealing his best friend's girl, to boot. Ohmgosh, I was so laughing at this scene!! When she asks her two seconds later, like you say, and the mother says no she can't and then says oh alright, just hurry back. Mother and daughter - they're the same everywhere! So funny!! This girl has more freedom than I did in high school... (I fell asleep right in the middle of copying/pasting! I'm awake now. *slap slap of the cheek*) Episode 19: I don't know what it was but this episode seemed to just go on and on. It felt like three hours long! Anyway, I was very disappointed at the result of the Seung Yu/Myeon confrontation in the beginning of the episode. Myeon says so you're really alive and Seung Yu says I'm gonna kill you... and then some soldiers come and separate them. What the heck! I guess it was too early for them to have it out?... The torture scene was awful. Did not enjoy that at all. They were all so brave!! I would've been like okay whatever, I'll call you whatever you want, just stop the pain! The scene when the princess, in her colorless attire and unadorned hair, goes and prostrates herself in front of Su Yang to beg for her husband's life was so moving. It showed how much she loved Jong to do that. You could see the hate in her eyes still as she called Su Yang "Your Majesty." And when she did save Jong but he wanted to go with his teacher and was screaming to take him too, I was crying. Gosh, it was so sad. Earlier when Seung Yu was leaving to rescue Jong, the princess says to him "Please come back with the prince consort." Why did it sound to me like she was saying, "Don't bother coming back without my husband"?? I have a knife very similar to this one that my mom gave me when I was sixteen or seventeen. It's a family heirloom. I guess it's been in the family for a few generations. She told me it is used if a man tries to violate a woman. On the woman herself, not on the man (unfortunately). The meaning is that it's better to lose your life than to lose your virtue. Mine is mostly made of wood though - the casing and the handle.

The storyline doesn't work for K-Dramas or I think we would have seen a K-Drama version a long time ago. Can I ask you why that is? "Absolute Boyfriend" is about a girl who buys a robot boyfriend and the various troubles that causes. Why isn't that storyline making of a good K-drama as well?

I'd be giving away the ending if I answer this. What I can say is.. the live action versions (in Japanese and Taiwanese) are already different from the manga. Because K-Drama romances are done a certain way, they'd probably make even more changes to the story.

My interpretation of your explanation, Knov, is that this drama has a sad ending... Without giving anything else away can you tell me that? On second thought, don't tell me! I was sorta prepared for this cuz after all can a girl live happily ever after with a robot? Think not, so my bet is on the boy next door which is fine with me cuz I like him too. I watched the first episode and really liked it and am looking forward to watching the rest with Birdy. But then I really loved the beginning of "King of High School" too and that ended up being a real DUD!!
Okay, back to "The Princess' Man." Forgot to talk about the ending of episode 19 the other night. Up till now, in my opinion, Se Ryeong hadn't done anything heroine-worthy. As Birdy so aptly put it, she was just doing lots of running here and there causing more trouble than solving them. BUT at the end of episode 19, she finally did something that made me ask myself, "Could I do that if I were in her place?" And I honestly don't know if I could be as strong and brave as she was. To defy her father like that, to cut off her hair like that (which I'm thinking is a big deal back then) and to leave the palace (which means leaving behind her family protection)... Wow, that takes some guts. Finally I felt she was doing something heroic. Even when she had the sword at her throat in the earlier episode to try to save Seung Yu's life I somehow didn't really believe she would slit her throat. Here I thought she was truly brave.
Episode 20: Watched it late last night but was too tired to post after. This episode was much more enjoyable for me. No tortures, no execution, no sad partings. And the sweet Seung Yu has finally come back completely, it seems. Hmm... now that I'm all ready to discuss, I can't remember anything else! Oh, the scene where Seung Yu falls asleep leaning on Se Ryeong was very sweet. And the ending was pretty frightening - can you imagine being Myeon's slave?? Where's that small knife of hers when she needs it???
Oh I do recall one more thing - there's that one scene when Princess Gyeong Hye and Seung Yu exchange a long look. I just imagine what thoughts are running through their minds. Do they ever envision what their world would be like now if Se Ryeong and the princess never switched places that fateful day? Seung Yu would be prince consort protecting the princess and supporting the young king and his father would still be alive being a wise and faithful advisor to the young king. Would their world be peaceful and happy? Would Su Yang and his family be all dead instead?...

Watched ep 19-- started this morning and actually had to leave for work when I had approx. 5- 10 minutes left! I did not like watching the torture scene at all-- haven't liked it in any drama, but when the "King" said to have them die by pulling their arms/legs apart, I was appallled-- this guy is really ruthless! I am glad they had another scene with A Rang-- she is sooo cute and such a good actress-- it was nice to see in a episode that was so sad. I could not believe it when the Su Yang tells Myeon "Because you were unable to capture that child's heart, thats why something like this happens"-- really? Su Yang (and his wife) can't control his daughter, how in the world can Myeon do it? I can't recall his name but I like the third guy that went with Seung Yu to the prison-- his hat was crooked, he kept talking at the wrong time-- it was like comic relief when you really needed it. Although I understand why Seung Yu wanted to break them out of prison, how in the world did he think they were going to escape? After all the torturing, they could hardly walk, let alone run away! I thought how they all wanted to stay in prison and why they wanted to stay was really meaningful, but I also thought it was unfair to Seung Yu, after all he was risking his life to save them and how in the world would he get rid of Su Yang on his own, when as a group they could not do it? I agree with you, the scene where they were dragging Jong away and he wanted to stay with his teacher was so moving, so sad. I was thinking about what you said about Se Reyoung cutting her hair (I read it before I watched it) and I was a bit surprised she didn't cut off all of the pony tail, but I recall you mentioning how a woman wears her hair up after she gets married, so the hair must have an important meaning-- almost like she was cutting herself out of the family.

I like the quotes around the word king for Su Yang! This method of killing is not an invention of Su Yang, just in case you think that. It's a well known way a king sentences some people to death, people he particularly hates, as you can imagine. They tie each limb (and head too in some cases) to different horses and have the horses gallop in all different directions so the limbs will be torn from the body. Really gross. I so agree with you, Birdy. But let me ask you... are you secretly crushing on Myeon or something? You seem to be defending him quite often... Yeah, I sorta didn't get why they were so eager to meet their death. I understood they didn't want to give into calling Su Yang "Your Majesty" earlier but this is different. They have the chance to escape, which means another chance to fight Su Yang. Yet they say they rather die and live in history. Well, not if Su Yang changes the history. I think sometimes Koreans (and other Asian cultures?) attach too much glory in death. I found them to be sort of defeatists. And like you say, totally unfair to Seung Yu. If she had cut off the whole length of the braid she would end up with a bob cut. Not a pretty picture in the Joseon time, I wouldn't think. Episode 21: I'm really liking Se Ryeong more and more. Even in the face of becoming a slave she doesn't give an inch. And she had some zingers for Myeon. When she said she didn't like Seung Yu's name coming out of Myeon's mouth, I was like "Wow, you tell him, girl!!" And when she says to Myeon, "I feel like I'm dealing with my father," I was just full of admiration for her. She is really becoming an Amazon woman right before my very eyes. Two flies in my ointment: 1)It was hard for me to believe that a king would really make his daughter a slave. Better solution would've been to just lock her up in a tower or something. Making his own flesh and blood a slave is like spitting in his own face. A king would never do it, particularly a Korean king. 2)When Seung Yu comes to rescue Se Ryeong, why didn't Myeon just stay with Se Ryeong? That way he would surely capture Seung Yu. Makes no sense to me that he would leave Se Ryeong and go off somewhere else when he knows very well it's Se Ryeong Seung Yu came for. I loved the scene when Seung Yu and Se Ryeong are riding away and he asks her in his mind "Why don't you ask where I'm taking you?" and she answers him in her mind "I'll go anywhere with you." That was a beautiful scene. And later when she tells him she'd follow him even to death, you really believe her, that from her these are not empty words. Which really scares me and makes me dread the ending of this drama. I think I'm seeing too much foreshadowing here.

Quick comment before I go watch the end of ep 21.....if I can stay awake that long.... You are so smart!--I am secretly crushing on Myeon (LOL ) no, I am not-- I just feel that the guy started out by following his family, like many other people and then got wrapped up in this whole situation with Su Yang, sometimes I think he truely likes Se Ryeong and but would have let Seung Yu have her back when they were friends, but since the whole situation has blown up in his face his pride is hurt and he feels the need to defend that---BUT I don't agree with many things he is doing lately. When Se Ryeong was turned over to be his slave, I was thinking "Uh Oh, concubine time". I thought he was ok by just putting her in a room and not really being mean to her, I mean couldn't he have just dragged her home (he even untied her hands) and left her in his bedroom.....I just reread what I wrote and I don't think I helped my "case" of not really crushing on Myeon (but that's ok, because the you can crush over Seung Yu and I can crush over Myeon and we won't end up enemies like them ! (See I already have my ninja costume all ready so you just better be nice!)

I KNOW he likes her, there's never been a doubt about that. I think exact opposite of you when it comes to Myeon. Maybe that's why I dislike him so intensely. I think he would've actually NOT betrayed Seung Yu to the extent that he did if it were NOT for Se Ryeng. When he realizes he has a chance to marrying her, he totally turns on his best friend. The temptation was too great at that point. That's why I think he's an evil person. A decent person would not have been tempted by something like that. I wasn't gonna say anything but to be fair to Myeon (although he doesn't deserve it!), when his father asks him what his plan is for Se Ryeong (now that she's his slave), Myeon's response is "Now that she has entered my house I consider her my wife." Though the translation has him saying "I consider her mine," I'm pretty sure the correct translation is "I consider her my wife." If what he says in Korean is literally translation he says "I consider her my person," I think that means wife. Now later when he's angry with Se Ryeong because she refuses to eat he says to her face "You are mine." At that time I think he is saying "You are my thing" implying she is his possession, his property. This is to put the fear in her but I think he still has no ill intention, that he still thinks she'll eventually become his wife. Hey Birdy, you look really cool in that ninja outfit!! Listen, for the LAST episode of TPM let's watch it together. I mean let's watch it at the EXACT SAME TIME. How 'bout it? Good idea right??? Let's agree on a time when we're ready, okay?

Love the idea of watching the episode at the same time! You are on the east coast? I am in CST. Give me some times when you want to watch it. I am free Friday night, and pretty much all this weeekend. What works for you? This almost makes me excited to see the end.... I can not beleive that another rebellion has been discovered! can't these guy do anything?!?!? and then Jong gets himself in trouble again. This is getting a bit old.....I guess it keeps me guessing-- happy ending? sad ending?
