WOW - sometimes it amazes me how I watch an episode and then read the synopsis and find out I missed something-- for example, Bong-shil being Young's step mom -- saw the scene, but didnt put it together at all! Young and her husband -- crazy how she is all over him about spending/not making money-- just like a typical husband who brings home the bacon. And he buys shoes!!!! You mentioned in the synopsis that Sooae didnt like the 'remembrance" table, because of a Korean prejudice about hanging onto a dead person's things-- could this be the reason they burned Mr. Seo's things? Although they didnt burn them all.... I liked the coffee scene, too but I kinda lost the meaning in the sub. translation or because I didnt really put a name to the faces. Not too sure how I am feeling about the medicinal herb that will probably be Bong-shil's savior -- the storyline up to this point seemed very real, but this seems a little to "fairytale" to add much depth to the story...

I don't think the prejudice about dead people's stuff is the same reason they burned his clothing, I know you're curious about the latter. I'll see what I can find out elsewhere. Nor do I know how they distinguish between things you'd keep and things that you don't. Obviously, an antique table could be valuable, and you don't get rid of anyone's jewelry or money, right? And what about celebrating everyone's death annually? Maybe it was because Wonsook was having bad dreams.
I had to watch him give coffee to Min twice because the scene was surprisingly rich and layered, even though not much was said. More like, what is between the lines. One of the best K-scenes I've watched in a while.
Not only is it "fairytale"--you noticed the seeds were lime Nerd candy, right? Also, the plants are clearly some kind of mint with a red berry added. It may just be something we've never seen, or it may be mythical. There is an air of magic realism in this storyline, what with the ghost of Mr Seo involved and that fortune teller his brother met by the subway. (Remember that? Consult a noblewoman from the South! She is ugly!)

Now I feel like a real knucklehead, but not completly because I did noticed that the plant looked a lot like a mint plant-- but I don't remember seeing the fortune teller by the subway (which episode was it? Probably one where I nodded off in the middle ) I guess the ghost of Mr Seo could be magic realism-- but to me that is just a way to add detail to the story or to remind the watcher of something that already had happened which as you can tell I really need! (and Nerds candy ?!?! I knew they didnt look like seeds!!!) This is why watching dramas are more fun with the board involved-- you guys always see things I miss!

The fortune teller appeared in the middle of Episode 3 (it's in the synopsis). You may have missed it because he just looked like a crazy drunk. Maybe because that's what he was, but it seemed important to me. You're not a knucklehead. You're just busy. LOL magical realism IS a way to add detail and interest to a story! Does the term "magical realism" have some sort of negative connotation to you? Way back when, when I actually read magazines, I used to subscribe to the New Yorker, and I remember that every time I read a story with strange occurrences, I would think, "I like that. Wonder who wrote it?" And it always (no, srsly, always) turned out to be by Italo Calvino "translated from the Italian by so-and-so." I looked him up and here's what he said about his writing: "Instead of making myself write the book I ought to write, the novel that was expected of me, I conjured up the book I myself would have liked to read, the sort by an unknown writer, from another age and another country, discovered in an attic." Isn't that fabulous?

Taking a deep breath--- finished this epispde AND I took notes! So here goes... loved when Man Geum whispered to Go-shil what happened when he ate the plant. InYoung is really annoying-- over the top whinning-- like she misses her dad because she misses how easy her life was then and not really her dad. Her comment to SuAe when she was moving out "I was going to sponge off of you"-- like it was no big deal. Loved when Han Na called her dad and he said he was at work and she said "Your at the P.C. room, I can hear it!"- smart kid. Loved the transformation of the "end table"-- SuAe and her friends are part of the best part of this drama. When the business men were having the discussion about the power plant and the man says "History belongs to someone that can make the impossible possible"-- made me think of Gong-shil's situation right away. Not sure if I understand the whole business part of the drama (the meeting, the power plant, who all the men are) The whole greenhouse scenario was great! I laughed when I saw the humidifier in the greenhouse-- just like a k-drama hospital, gotta have that humidifier to make you all better-- whether you are human or plant! . Buying all the lights to help the plants grow-- got an idea for a sequel....Mrs Gong Go-shil, Breaking Bad, Korean style! When the greenhouse started to "glow", I thought for sure someone would yell "Aliens!" I liked the song they played while Gong-shil and Man Geum were cleaning out the greenhouse. SO that's it for my "comments" (aren't you glad I took notes !?!?!? ) Can't what to read what you thought of this ep.!! Now the question...Do you understand what happened at the end of the episode? Why was JunTae asking for those people Who was the lady he talked to?

EXCELLENT. (And look, it only took me 5 days to get back here!) I decided not to post as soon as I saw InYoung's boyfriend dancing outside her window and I thought, "BIRD will know which boy group that is!" LOL. I thought the whole episode was really cute and funny, many of your comments would be similar to mine. I'll post a synopsis as soon as I can, but I can answer two things now. 1) That meeting appears to be a cabal of businessmen under the thrall of the unscrupulous David Kim, who is planning to build a power plant under dicey circumstances. (I was SOOOO disappointed in him. ) Since we've been teased this whole time with a possible future connection between Bongshil and Mr. Kim, I am assuming she'll influence him positively. But thay may be wishful thinking. And yes, I DID think of his power plant immediately. That whole "burning greenhouse" sequence was hilarious; I loved Geumsil running out of her house and then telling Mija to mind her own business. 2) Juntae is apparently something of a gigolo, probably connected with his singing career. Those ladies were all at an old-folk's home, as you probably figured out, and he was reminded of them as a possible source of emergency funds by the fortune-teller on the sidewalk, who reminded him of the drunk fortuneteller we were discussing earlier. (Which I thought was pretty funny, since we were just discussing it, and so it turned into "our" coincidence as well as Juntae's.) They have not been mentioned earlier or shown earlier in the drama, so don't wrack your brains or anything--and wait, I just looked that up, I've been using it wrong all these many years, don't RACK your brains. LOL.

bird, do you have a smartphone? There are apps you can put on a smartphone that will listen to a song and identify it. It's kept me from being driven crazy more than once. If you don't have one maybe someone you know who has one can help. There are a few of those apps out there; the one I've been using is called Shazam.

Okay, bird, you misunderstood me. I DON'T know who it is. I was thinking YOU would. LOL. You're right, they sound SOOOOOO familiar, but I'm thinking it's down to what knov1 says about how formulaic all the songs are. I googled it, and didn't come across an answer. However, and I don't know if it's been referenced elsewhere here, I found a 2/6/2012 blog post by a Korean-American woman (married with kids). It's fairly rife with punctuation/grammatical errors, and you know how that bugs me, but most of them are subtle and probably not noticable to others. She was watching the show and comments toward the end about Soo-ae, with some spoilers where she is concerned btw, but maybe you'd like to read it later. Konglish Kids blogI thought of looking for the OST--here's one list of what's on it: Wiki d-addictsAnd here's another (in Espanish): drama.wikiaAnywhere I looked for a music video, it seems to have been taken down. So I think we may be stymied.

Alas, I don't have a smart phone, I keep telling myself having a smart phone would make it waaaaaaaaaay to easy to watch BigBang MV'a all day long!!! but will look to see if someone can help me out.....Thanks for the suggestion! Feel better knowing that if the board's resident Kpop expert Knov doesn't know....how would I know? ? As I was driving in the car today I was listening to a song by Super Junior (not Big Bang for a change!!) and then I was thinking maybe it was them? ? Doesn't take much to make me "crazy" trying to solve a challenge!!!!! LOL Oh well, it's nice to know that you all have my back to keep me from going off the deep end! Haven't give up, yet.... (sorry I misunderstood what you wrote, Bo-- I guess my love of Kpop made me jump to the conclusion that I would know who was singing--or maybe the thought that BigBang could actually be singing in a drama , guess I will have to keep on "studying" )
