Na Young crossed the line

I was very disappointed in Na-young yesterday. She outright lied to 2 people yesterday, one of whom is someone extremely close to her for 4 years now. She lied to Ki-hoon about who she was going out with and then lied to him again when he called her while she was watching the movie and he asked her if she was seeing the guy she got the flowers from. She also broke her promise to KH not to meet alone with the person in question. (I don't understand why she left her cell phone on...why not turn it off and let voicemail pick up messages?)

The second she hangs up, the guy in the car with her asks her if the guy she was talking to is someone she has a serious relationship with and she lies again and says "No, he's not." Even if she's decided to give up on the relationship with KH, her answer would still be a lie. The truthful answer would be, "We were engaged, but I've decided to end it with him." Then it would be up to her date if he wants to go out with someone who has just broken off an engagement.

It seems pretty obvious the reason she lied to both of them isn't that she's decided to break up with Ki-hoon...it's that she wants to juggle 2 boyfriends at once---one of whom expects her to marry him. And that makes her look pretty darn sleazy, even by Western standards.

Her grandma didn't demand Na-young marry Ki-hoon just because she made the promise....she simply advised her to break things off w/ KH right now if she wants to date someone new. And grandma is right...that is the correct thing to do.

For once, KH showed some maturity when he told her he wasn't going to get crazy and jealous on her, but that he's leaving it up to her to do the right thing. She's the one who's acting badly here and I'm really disappointed in her

I think NY is behaving badly because she's panicking at the idea of being married to KH, maybe not so much because he's kind of a domineering young man (though it would give ME pause), but because she's not ready to get married in general and he's pressuring her so hard.

She definitely needs to grow a spine and decide what she wants to do, then do it, and stop shilly-shallying around this way.

Oh, and how about that modern take on the drive-in theater? Just pull up somewhere nice and park, then pull out the portable DVD player! LOL

You are right about NY.. She is panicking over the thought of getting married. KH 'is' very pushy & domineering. She needs to hold her ground. If she is not ready then she shouldn't agree to marriage. She should, however, break up with him while she makes up her mind. Or at least let him know that she is going to date other guys until she is sure. She's young.

I have to speak up in Ki-Hoon's defense just a bit. On the one hand, yes, he is a bit domineering. On the other hand, he -really- loves NY, and NY knows it, and she has been letting him date her (I use this formulation deliberately) for four years now, and he has been just the same this whole time, so it's not like any surprise. Furthermore NY is quite able to stand up to KH when she wants to, call him a pervert, throw fits, etc.
If she didn't want to be dating a domineering guy, she could have broken it off at any time.

Furthermore, the KH's "domineering" nature is largely grounded in his his self-confidence and courage. He has a real sense of integrity and will stand up for a cause, whether it is moving out of the house over the Ji-Min business, or whether it is coming to the defense of a girl who is being harassed by 3 street toughs. He is the kind of guy I would want to have on my side, and that's something to think about when you are choosing a life partner. I don't just mean that he will fight street toughs, I mean that he is somebody you can be proud to be associated with. I bet he sells a lot of insurance, too :-)

Does he have the old "double standard"? Sure! Has NY ever had any trouble challenging him on this before? No! And now we find out that NY has a bit of a "double standard" herself.

Basically NY doesn't know what she does want, and she is a bit of a user - maybe more than a bit. Remember when she was thinking of getting married right away, not because it was anything she wanted so much herself, but because KH's father would pay for her tuition? She likes to take the line of least resistance and most reward and get fussed over. The depth of KH's feelings has always scared her a bit. But not enough to make her break it off and deprive herself of the attention!

Either (a) she doesn't really have any deep feelings for KH at all, in which case KH is better off without her, or (b) she has them but hasn't really faced them herself yet. Since this is a daily drama with less than 4 weeks to run, I think it is probably (b). I predict (without any spoiler knowledge) that this whole business with that student guy is going to blow up in her face and leave her feeling increasingly miserable for about four or five episodes and being forced to figure out what she really DOES want.
