MOE Ep.18
Sunwoo’s little attempted murder unfolds. Soomi and Yoonjoo make it out there. Soomi's first thought is for Jangil, but Yoonjoo just wants to know what the hell is going on. Later, Sunwoo physically threatens Soomi and taunts her that she helped him defeat and destroy Jangil.
President Jin falls for the “Indonesian mine” trap set by Taejoo, Sunwoo and Sec Kwon. He goes all out to recover from his losses--threats are made; bribes are paid. I can’t quite figure out this deal, but apparently PJ and Taejoo’s firms are competing to get mining rights. Later, Sunwoo reveals (off the record) to some interviewers that he’s involved with a place called Green Mining. PJ thinks he’s winning for sure when Taejoo’s firm drops out. Meanwhile, his wife has sold her stock and advises her daughter, “Sell your stocks already before Jin goes crash.”
Things close in on Jangil while Sunwoo subtly manipulates the situation. Joonho attacks Jangil at work, and it looks like Jangil might whack Joonho too, but he resists the temptation.
Dad Lee convinces Sunwoo to arrange a one-on-one meeting with dad Choi. Then, Lee threatens PJ with a knife, but PJ tells everyone it was a random robbery. Choi goes to meet Sunwoo, who calls to say the meeting is with Lee, but Choi is not alarmed. Then Lee attacks him with a club and knocks him out. Fortunately some evening bicyclists arrive and take Choi to the hospital (while Lee hides).
Sunwoo verbally attacks Jiwon when she dares to say she’d handle the situation differently. She forgives him and then takes Sunwoo on a date (while the Choi/Lee thing is playing out), where they discuss her habit of speaking to him formally. She thinks she’ll probably be able to relax once “everything is over and you are more comfortable.”
Soomi assumes Sunwoo attacked her father. Mr Choi manages to croak out that it’s Jangil’s dad, only of course she doesn’t believe him. The police go to Jangil, who brushes them off but can’t reach dad. Lee, drinking in a street tent, reminisces about his first murder. Two cops come in and he flees. Standing on a bridge, he tries to throw himself off but seems unable to do so.
Jangil confronts Soomi and physically attacks dad Choi at the hospital. Hospital personnel pull him off. Jangil asks Soomi what “that bastard” is trying to pull. She slaps his face and announces, “You’re done for” [my pretty]. Jangil stumbles home as his father watches from afar. [Not too afar, but afar.]
Soomi accuses Sunwoo, to Jiwon, of arranging the attack on her father, because Sunwoo is “a madman.” Jiwon tells her, “Well, if he’s crazy, you all made him crazy.” Jiwon points out that Soomi wants forgiveness without doing anything, she won’t beg or even ask for it. Soomi says Jiwon would not love Sunwoo if he was still blind. “Yes I would, he’s always Sunwoo no matter what. I hope you can feel that way some day, too.” [Jiwon is really kind of snotty in this scene.]
Jangil, protesting his innocence, hands in his resignation. But Mr Lee writes a letter to prosecutor Joonho, confessing that he did it all. Jangil stumbles home and finds a note from his father--apparently a kind of Will telling Jangil to live well and cursing PJ to hell and back--and runs around in a panic until, ironically, he finds his father hanging from a beam. He pulls him down, begs him to wake up and calls for an ambulance. In the ambulance, he remembers Sunwoo acted the same and wonders if he felt the same things. [Duh.] Apparently dad is not dead, because they do take him to the hospital.
The mining claim is given to Green Mining company. PJ sees the announcement and nearly collapses. Yoonjoo tries to help him, but Mrs PJ takes the opportunity to needle him because he didn’t trust her judgment. PJ can’t believe it’s going to end this way.
Sec Kwon and Sunwoo celebrate PJ’s fall. Taejoo arrives with an embroidered handkerchief for Sunwoo’s mother. Whenever asked what she wanted for a gift, she always said, “A summer handkerchief.” (This is the first one he’s given her, having no rights where she was concerned.) At her grave, Sunwoo promises he’ll return and leaves, but remembers Taejoo’s gift and goes back. Only to discover PJ telling her off and saying he’ll never fail even if he has to kill her father. Not making much sense here—maybe the translation is bad--but Sunwoo reveals his presence by simply walking up next to him. “Why are YOU here?” they ask each other. “It’s my mother.” “Well, it’s my fiancé.” Sunwoo leans down with Taejoo’s kerchief, noticing the flowers and kerchief left by PJ. So PJ says to Eunhye, “Is this the child you got from Taejoo after you betrayed me?” He then demands satisfaction from Sunwoo for being born, thus destroying the lives of PJ, his fiancé and Taejoo. [Crust.]
PJ wants revenge. He’ll dig up Eunhye and kill her again by cremating her [somehow he actually owns her, I guess]. He makes fun of Sunwoo for not knowing which of Mr Kim and Taejoo is his father, and when Sunwoo says they both are, PJ laughs derisively. But…Mrs PJ has had this meeting photographed and she tries to puzzle out why David Kim and PJ were at Kim Eunhye’s grave together. [She’s slow, maybe.]
Sunwoo, who has heard from Mr Lee about the contents of the argument between Mr Kim and PJ, recalls that his father said he’d be living with someone else after his birthday. He demands the truth from Taejoo. Taejoo gives him Kim’s letter (“Are you Sunwoo’s father, Taejoo?”). “So. Whose son am I?” asks Sunwoo.
“Jin No-sik’s son.” Sunwoo cannot absorb this information. He doesn’t actually throw Taejoo off the top of the building, but looks like he’d like to. [END]

Interesting. PJ comes to tell Eunhye to “visit hell”—bringing flowers and a gift. PJ is a funny guy.
I also found this interesting: Lee drags Choi into the brush, and the camera focuses on the bloody club lying on the ground at the scene of the crime. Then, the bicyclists pick up the club lying next to Choi, off on another path! What the heck?
