This thread is for discussion of episode 20 of 49 Days. Please check the drama info & schedule thread for more info and rules on how to avoid spoilers and such. --------------------------------------------------------- Ji Hyun tells Yi Kyung she's going to die in a week. That's why she's pretending not to remember. She asks Yi Kyung not to say anything to Kang. Kang visits Min Ho in jail. He tells Min Ho to endure his sentence and to go back to the person Kang once respected when he gets out. Kang tells Min Ho that Ji Hyun is healthy and he'll continue to be by her side. Yi Kyung helps Ji Hyun prepare for a picnic with Kang. Ji Hyun tells Kang it's to thank him for helping out her parents. While they're both making wishes, we flashback to Yi Kyung telling Kang that Ji Hyun doens't have much time left. Kang wishes for Ji Hyun to live. Ji Hyun wishes for Kang to forget her. Ji Hyun returns to the hospital. While with her parents, Ji Hyun collapses and dies. She becomes a soul again. Death appears. Ji Hyun gets on the elevator and goes to heaven. Kang has a box of Yi Kyung's things. Inside there's a letter from Ji Hyun addressed as if it were from Yi Kyung. It basically states that Yi Kyung is alone and needs a friend. Kang returns the box to Yi Kyung. She finds the bank account that Yi Soo started for her. Kang visits Ji Hyun's parents. He learns that Ji Hyun had a sister Ji Min. She was kidnapped at a bus station and never heard from again. Kang thinks Ji Min could be Yi Kyung. Kang and Ji Hyun's mom pay her a visit. Yi Kyung is indeed Ji Hyun's sister, Ji Min. We flashback to Death telling Ji Hyun that the 2 other tears were from Seo Woo and In Jung. When In Jung went to disconnect Ji Hyun's respirator, she stopped herself before Kang walked into the room. What Kang saw was In Jung brushing her hand against Ji Hyun's cheek. The documents that got Min Ho arrested and thrown in jail were sent to the prosecutor by In Jung. On his last day, Death wishes Yi Kyung a happy life with Ji Hyun's family. It's 2 years later. In Jung visits Min Ho in jail. He has 3 years left on his sentence. In Jung tells him she'll continue to take care of his mom until then. Yi Kyung has been working at HEAVEN but is leaving for Haemido to work at the new resort. Kang and Yi Kyung pay a visit to Ji Hyun and Yi Soo's tombs. The end. --------------------------------------------------------- Hmm... I wasn't expecting them to be sisters. So even if Yi Kyung had cried for Ji Hyun, it wouldn't have mattered since they're siblings. I'll comment more on the ending later. Hope you all enjoyed watching the drama.

Now we have some more answers. Why Minho's mother said what she did to him. Why he suddenly was being arrested rather than "questioned." Obviously, why Jihyun and Yikyung could communicate. (LOL on the "Boss"--she was great.) You got your wish, Knov1, Yikyung moved on by making a real life for herself. With Kang's help. With whom she's going to end up--right? Loved all the nascent romances. I thought it was well tied up--not too tightly tied, just nicely packaged.
BUT. The most important item is--I WAS RIGHT! HAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHA! Injung was #3! Bo's #1! Bo's #1!

I have mixed feelings about the ending. It had some twists I didn't see coming. I didn't necessarily like where they took the story but it made the drama less predictable.
It never occurred to me that Ji Hyun and Yi Kyung could be sisters. I don't recall being given any hints that Ji Hyun even had siblings. I thought their connection revolved around the accident and Yi Soo. Being that it's a K-Drama, I shoud have known better. I would have preferred for them not to have been sisters. It just seemed a little too convenient. Plus, if they were going to explain how Yi Kyung became an orphan, they should have explained Yi Soo's side of the story as well.
Now, I did like that Ji Min kept the name Yi Kyung and maintained a certain level of independence. When you think about it, she was an orphan from the age of 5. She was with Yi Soo until she was 23. After he died, she spent the next 5 years by herself. She didn't remember much of anything about her life before the orphanage so, for 28 years of her life, Yi Soo was the only family she knew. Even if Yi Kyung learned that she wasn't abandoned, that's still an awful long time. At the end, she seemed to have a good relationship with her parents but she might never be as close to them like Ji Hyun was. So, I'll give the writers credit on that end.
So, the final question would be, does Yi Kyung end up with Kang? I'm assuming that, as viewers, we're to view Ji Hyun as Kang's first love and Yi Soo as Yi Kyung's first love but that's not who they're meant to be with. When Ji Hyun told Yi Kyung she was dying, I thought the door was open for them to get together. Then it was revealed that Ji Hyun and Yi Kyung were sisters. That threw a wrench into that idea. Personally, I don't think they ended up together but the ending left it up to viewer interpretation. With the way things turned out, I think a Ji Kyung and Kang ending would have made more sense. Kang loved Ji Hyun, even as Ji Kyung, so it could have been viewed as a tale of unconditional love.

Finished watching this today. I enjoyed the ending, I was disappointed that Jihyun passed-but liked the way Death spent time with Jihyun and really seemed to care for her and the fact that she had to die. I liked way Ji Soo spent time with Kiyung and that she knows how much he really cared for her-- even setting up the bank account for her. Even though Jihyun died, everyone seemed to be happy at the end. I think it was nice the way Jihyun spent time with her parents and told them she was happy to be their daughter before she died. The only thing I did not like was the way Kiyung ended up being Jihyun's sister. I think it would have been better if the writers would have hinted at this at some point in the drama-- not that I would have caught it, it just would have made more sense than just throwing a kidnapping at us out of the blue. I think the end made it seem like Kang and Yikyung ended up together-- I really liked the two trees planted together at the waters edge-- like YiSoo and Jihyun were together in death and so Kang and Yikyung were together in life. One quick question before I end-- If I remember correctly something was buried at the base of the two trees? What was it? I like that the two trees were next to each other, but I was just wondering if there was anything special about the burial as it wasn't the typical burial mound I have seem in other dramas.

I thought it was their ashes that were buried at the tree root, since they were such small packages, bird. They have the memorials by the bodies, don't they?
I guess them being sisters would put a little block in the way of Kang & Yikyung getting together, knov1, but not much, and for the same reasons that you list for her not getting too close to her parents. I think if they had done it right away, that would show a certain shallowness, but years have passed. Also, remember Jihyun was very careful to make it clear to everyone (for her own strange reasons) that she and Kang were only friends, so there could really be no public censure of the match.
However, I think Yikyung would have reacted differently than she did to Jihyun telling her she was keeping things from Kang because she loved him. Yikyung just spent 5 years of her life in a box because she didn't know someone loved her when he died. I think that character would at least have tried to talk her out of such thinking, maybe not succeeding, but MENTIONING it. Geez.

It's not that it would be impossible for them to get together. I just don't think it's likely. By the end, I think everyone knew how Kang and Ji Hyun felt about each other even if they didn't openly admit it. I don't think Yi Kyung's parents would stand in her way if she wanted to date Kang but I don't think Yi Kyung would go for it.

Just marathoned this drama this weekend and I thought it was pretty good from ep 3-16. Ep 1 & 2 had the subtitles sync problem which almost made me quit the drama. I just found ep 17 n 18 felt like scenes were slapped together with no transition. Ep 19 n 20 were okay although I would wished they would have spent time on Ji Min/Yi Kyoung's adoption rather than have Kang just 'figure' it out. What is he? Some kind of mad genius? I mean every time there was an issue with the company he would come up with the right answers even though he has no prior experience running a company. He was also able to 'figure' out that Ji Hyun was possessing Yi-Kyung's body quickly after stalking her for a day or two. I think one goes through a series of suggestions before coming up with ghost possession.
I for one was happy that Yi-Kyung did not end up dating Kang as it would have been so awkward even if they weren't sisters.

ROFL shiku. I wish you could have been here to discuss it as we went along--but I'm glad you were able to jump in at the end. The more the merrier. I totally agree with your observation on SuperDuperman--I mean, Kang. It did get to be a little much, didn't it.
I still think we're supposed to think Yikyung and Kang get together eventually. It's not impossible, even people who were married to a person who died can later get together with the sister/brother of that person, it's not unheard of. However, looking at how Yikyung is, knov1 is probably right. She'd never stand for it.
