I wondered last night why JY appeared to meet w/ Min-joo first, after leaving her office saying she would get it in writing from Sang-min that he wouldn't file the papers to change Ji-min's name as long as JY didn't marry.
Now I know why. A couple of scenes were cut out. After leaving her office, JY meets w/ SM in a cafe or restaurant (not the same way she's been going to almost every day now w/ SM or someone from his family). He tells her his main concern now is that Ji-min will be branded illegitimate all his life if SM doesn't file the papers to make him a Lee. He says he now realizes he must do this to protect JM whether JY gets married or not. SM says he's working now to get his wife's consent to file the papers, and if he can get her to consent, he will file the papers regardless of what JY may do or not do. JY is outraged again and goes out by the river to scream and cry, calling on the spirit of her mother to help her.
But this is why she then calls MJ to meet w/ her. She wants to make certain MJ will not give her consent for the name change.
All of this gives weight to what Soju said yesterday about YJ's motives for filing the papers to put JM on his family registry. As long as JM is claimed on some man's registry, he will not be illegitimate in the eyes of the law, which would negate SM's argument that his sole concern is sparing JM being illegitimate. Except that YJ didn't know at the time that SM had said he would file the papers either way. YJ told SM he and JY would not marry in that case, and if SM goes ahead w/ filing the papers anyway, then he's a real scumbag (no argument here). And when he met w/ MJ the next day, he tells her he thinks SM is reacting now because he doesn't want another man claiming SM's son as his. So he must realize the illegitimacy is not the real reason here...it's an issue of making Ji-min his son legally. Therefore, he should realize that acting pre-emptively to make Ji-min a Jung and a legitimate child, is unlikely to stop SM. So I'm still confused as to what YJ hopes to accomplish.
One other thing....SM tells his father and stepmother at the end of the ep. that he went ahead w/ filing the papers. They are concerned about what MJ will do, but SM says he'll keep talking to her and get her to see things his way.
This sounds like extreme wishful thinking on his part. Since when has he ever been able to "manage" her? She's always called all the shots. She's proven before how capable she is of dumping his rear end on the curbside w/ barely a bat of the eye. Why does he think she's less capable now? Because of Yuna? If so, I think he's grossly overestimating that trump card of his. The man has never had one ounce of leverage in that marriage. He said he would only file the papers if he could get MJ to consent. She told him on no uncertain terms she would never consent. And he went ahead and filed the papers regardless, now saying he can bring her around. I think the only thing he will bring around is the moving van to collect his stuff that she will have tossed out on the street the minute she finds out what he did...and he may find himself assigned to the loading dock of the ski resort. She slapped him w/ divorce papers and demoted him big time in a heartbeat once before when he caused her ire. Why does he think it will be different this time? What a dolt.
