Ep.32:
It turns out San made Sir Choi a secret offer--he’ll suspend his investigation of the Noron if Sir Choi makes a complete break with corruption before San is enthroned. Choi doesn’t tell anyone and ponders the offer. San tells him, you don't have much time.
Although Song at first receives a harsh tongue-lashing from San’s mom, once Lady Hye hears the full explanation from Hyeoui (much later), she softens. She still, however, wants Song never to see San again. To guaranty this, she sponsors Song for the trip to Qing and arranges for her to join the Chinese ministry of culture, where Song can become an artist for real. It might take 10 years. Song is upset, but Hye points out that Sado got into trouble with the king in the first place by dallying (yeah, “dallying”) with outside women, and San would, too. She is kind but firm—Song must go. Hyeoui at first wants to stop it, but sees San comforting Song and then simply is unable to tell San at all (to Lady Kim’s relief I expect).
San visits Song at Dowahseo and they have one last night in the market together, just having fun. She doesn’t tell him about her exile, and he doesn’t learn about it until the next day during a meeting with Yeong-jo. He chases after her (with no guard, AGAIN), but she’s too far ahead, and there is a voiceover of the goodbye letter she sent to San via the very upset Dae-su, along with a gift of a red agate hat fastener, in which letter she swears her friendship, adoration and staunch intent to become the artist he wants her to be.
As an aside, it appears Uncle told the tavernkeeper about his “affliction” and she’s fine with it, and he asks her to marry him when he returns from Qing (3 mos.). Chobi, Mr. Lee and Mr. Tak from Dowahseo are also going to Qing (3 mos.).
Also, Jeong bids good bye to Princess. He’ll be thinking of a plan to defeat San while he’s gone and try to ingratiate himself with the Qing emperor. Princess tells him to try to figure out why Song (a) got sent on the envoyage and (b) will stay to study.
