It's come to my attention that people are suddenly posting unmarked spoilers to this message board w/ no consideration for board users who prefer not to see such information and would rather watch events unfold in real time and not have the suspense spoiled for them.
I realize we have some new board users here, but the idea of respecting spoiler warnings is a commonly understood courtesy across the internet. I don't know if it's people on the West Coast who have seen the episodes already we're about to see here, or who have downloaded them off soompi, or whatever. Either way, there is really no excuse for this gross lack of consideration. I've already abandoned another message board for the same thing...I would prefer not to be driven away from this forum as well, where I've come to feel so at home and enjoy exchanging ideas w/ fellow Chicagoans who love YH.
Newbies are very welcome...we're glad to have you. But you muist exercise basic courtesies, such as respecting the right of those fans who don't want to know before the next ep. what's about to happen.
I'm prevailing on all of you prone to give away spoilers w/o warning to show basic courtesy and respect spoiler rules. If you really can't control yourself, at least put your spoiler info. in a separate thread and label it very clearly w/ a spoiler warning in the subject header.
If this wanton spoiler behavior persists, I won't use this board. Then just think who the rest of you will be left w/. Board users w/ poor impulse control and no respect for others. Not a pretty thought.

Jade Eyes is obviously royally ticked off, and I can’t say that I blame her. As a Los Angeles viewer myself, I really do know how hard it is not to reveal (often inadvertently) a big plot twist that we’ve just seen and gotten all excited about. But those of us from outside the Chicago area need to remember that this is *Chicago’s* Korean Drama message board, and all us outsiders really need to respect where they are in the series.
Like Jade Eyes, I also stopped checking that “other” message board (I’m guessing she’s referring to the one from Hawaii). Yes, that board is truly spoiler heaven (if you like that kind of thing) but after discovering first-hand just how much a big spoiler can ruin things for weeks to come, I rarely go there any more.
For the record (anybody, please feel free to correct me if I’m wrong) I think that Chicago is about 2 ½ weeks behind Los Angeles, and about 5 weeks behind Honolulu (and I think that Philly is two or three days behind Chicago). Everybody, please keep this in mind when corresponding to the Chicago board – it can prevent a whole lot of irritation and hurt feelings. This Chicago KBC-28 board has always been a model of civility, something that’s pretty rare in the Internet world. Please, let’s all keep it that way!

Thank you mikey for understanding and for your support.
I have to conclude that aYsHuN is in fact from the LA area and is referring to events about to unfold, which we'll be seeing in the next couple of weeks. How nice to know!
I can understand that all people ahead of Chicago may not realize the time delay in our viewing and theirs, but having been put on notice, I hope this kind of thing will not be repeated. At least not by the same people.
Yes, the other board I was talking about was the KBFD board in Honolulu. I was successful in getting the spoiler-happy fans to start another thread specifically for spoiler gab (though not before getting snarked at by a dumb little snit for not liking spoilers, as she does) at least, but last I looked in, there were still some rude dopes who were going into the general discussion and spilling the beans on what they saw posted in the spoiler threads. So now I stay away.
I think Hawaii is one full week behind Chicago. I think Philly area viewers are on the same ep. as Hawaii, or possibly somewhere between Chicago and Hawaii. Someone located in NYC (according to her profile) posted about ep. 125, which she claimed to have just seen. So perhaps NYC is a day ahead of Chicago, though I don't know why.
And I apologize for sounding so "uncivil" to aYsHuN, but I really lost my patience. It shouldn't be that difficult to figure out where people are in their viewing, and to know what board you're posting to...this is a Chicago area board, not one for the LA area. Even when I was posting to the KBFD board in Honolulu, I was always careful not to reveal developments from the episodes that had not yet aired there...and I was repaid for my consideration by a bunch of idiots who couldn't return the courtesy and keep their traps shut.
I will be seriously PO'd if I am run off this forum by people out of the Chicago area spoiling what's coming for those of here using the forum as it was intended.
If mikey can control himself, the rest of you West Coasters and Big Applers ought to be able to manage it too.

Hello Jade... I'm here in Philly... we see K-dramas on WYBE, Channel 35 a regular TV station [some distant burbs in our area see them on their cable], it's a public supported station, with local and tons of international programming, including Korean news [no subtitle], plus 2 dramas at a time, 1 "soap" and 1 historical... we don't have a Korean only station but, the Korean and other international programming is quite wonderful on WYBE We have YH and Dawn now, Dawn will be over in about 4 weeks... but, WYBE announced last week, we are getting Warriors will replace Dawn, thus and fridays at 10pm - Warriors will invade Philly on Mischief Nite ;D YH was 5 days behind Chicago, and 1 day ahead of Hawaii...
I don't know L.A. schedule offhand... but NYC seems to get K-dramas on cable, not sure ? I think NYC is about a week and a half ahead of Philly ?
About 3 weeks ago WYBE messed up - 2 x's in one week ran repeats.... so now we are - I guess, 7 days behind Chicago and 1 day behind Hawaii...
Your comments are all quite valid... ;D thank you for posting them...
Regarding the KBFD board.... I agree with you about the "spoiler" issue on there... it is set up indeed for a separate YH thread to contain spoilers, but as you mentioned some folks don't look before they leap
I must say, tho, that I do enjoy that board... and I really enjoy this Chicago board too
Cheers, Betz in Philly

Thanks for all the information, Betz. I didn't realize Philly is now behindHawaii. Isn't it a little frustrating for you looking at this board where you are constantly seeing "spoilers" as we are pretty far ahead of you? That's nice that you have that channel that offers such diverse programming, and that you're suburbs have a cable channel that offers YH. Our cable stations here don't carry the station that has Korean programming. If we didn't have two portable TVs in the house not hooked up to cable, I would never have found YH. It's kind of funny to pay all this money for cable TV and then get a program I really like that I can only get from the TV antennae. Oh the ironies of life! The channel here that carries kbc programming (WOCH) also carries other programming, including Polish and Romanian and music videos late night and very early AM. In addition, we have another station that offers some Polish language TV and a station that has all Chinese programming. It looks like they carry some dramas too, but I haven't looked into these much. WOCH offers 3 or 4 subtitled Korean dramas, including Warriors and Wife. I've looked at Warriors a little bit, but don't have the energy to follow it regularly, and haven't looked at Wife at all, though I understand it's immensely popular in Korea. I remember seeing your name on the KBFD board when I used to visit there. I did used to enjoy it, and perhaps I should look again to see if the spoiler mania has let up a bit. But also I confess I used to get a little frustrated w/ the time lag, which is why I enjoy this forum so much more. Jade

WOCK TV 13, WOCH's low, low, low power sister station (they're owned by the same company) has shown Korean dramas with subtitles - Chinese subtitles, and they're dubbed in Chinese as well. I remember seeing 'Glass Shoes' there.
'Glass Shoes' was produced by the SBS network. I don't recall seing anything by them on ch28, only KBS and MBC. I kind of wonder why.

... we don't have a Korean only station but, the Korean and other international programming is quite wonderful on WYBE Betz, don’t feel too bad about not having a full-time Korean TV station – I doubt there’s any city in America that does. Los Angeles has two stations running Korean programming for about 4 hours every evening (and one of them does not English-subtitle anything). The rest of the day, these two TV stations run programming in Mandarin, Vietnamese, Japanese, Persian, Armenian, whatever . . . or they run infomercials. It’s really admirable that your local Philly PBS station broadcasts such a variety of international programming – and shame on all the other PBS stations that don’t seem to recognize what a wealth of quality programming is available to them almost for the asking. Imagine the boom in Korean drama popularity if PBS stations in places like Dallas, Denver, Minneapolis, Seattle, Boston, (name your favorite city) were to introduce some of these terrific Korean dramas to their community’s viewers!

Hiya Mikey... "... a full-time Korean TV station – I doubt there’s any city in America that does." what is KBC-28 ? I thought it was a Korean TV station in Chicago... let me know how it works ... also, is not the TV station in Hawaii that airs Korean programming - a full time Korean station ? I though it was... do you know how that works/operates...? "your local Philly PBS station" well, I did mention that WYBE Channel 35 is a "public supported" station, but alas I didn't clarify... WYBE is public supported, but not part of the Public Broadcast System of stations... and folks around Philly always assume too that it's PBS [we do have a PBS station here too], but WYBE always gets annoyed and, will quickly correct you when you call or e-mail them... they call themselves an independent public station... and we addicted fans of K-drama are sure glad they air these terrific shows... WYBE has only contracted with KBS, so far... so that's the shows we get... and we get 1 soap, and 1 hist. drama at a time... plus the Korean news [no subtitles] nightly 11pm just B4 YH... there is a fairly large Korean Community here in Philly area - not sure, could be maybe 50K or more folks... plus, numerous Korean restaurants ;D not completely sure, but I don't believe that any "PBS" system station airs K-dramas... it's possible that KBS and other ROK stations cannot or wish not to negotiate with PBS system ? I recently became a member of WYBE Channel 35 here in Philly, and chose not to join our local PBS Channel 12 station... they've become a little too "corp" last few years... plus, they've cancelled one of my favs, East Enders... Cheers, Betz in Philly

Betz - WOCH TV broadcasts Korean programming from about 7:30 AM until Midnight M - F (except for a half-hour Polish show at 7:30 PM), Saturday afternoons and evenings, and Sunday afternoons. On weerkends, they also have Indian, Philipine, and Bosnian programming. Overnight, they show MTV-2. A list of Korean broadcaters in the USA can be found here: www.asianmediaguide.com/korean/km.html

'Glass Shoes' was produced by the SBS network. I don't recall seeing anything by them on ch28, only KBS and MBC. I kind of wonder why. Yeah I've always thought it's a shame that KBC doesn't give any SBS programming. SBS has (or has had) some very popular shows and dramas which I'm sure Chicago viewers would enjoy.

First, I would like to thank JadeEyes for telling me about this forum. As you can tell, I am a new member here. But I am not new to watching and discussing Korean dramas. I am actually from the other board that some of you guys were talking about, the KBFD-Hawaii board. I am one of the biggest posters there and I regularly post under various threads including the 2 YH threads. My screenname there is Meat Jun. I hope you don't mind me joining this forum. Please rest assure that I will NOT reveal spoilers here, as I totally understand your concerns. Actually, I started the YH Spoiler thread after JadeEyes suggested that I did. I have to tell you guys the HI board has gotten much, much better. There is no moderator on that board, but since I started both YH threads, I do monitor the main YH thread closely and if anyone posts spoilers without warnings, I do step in and politely ask them to edit the post. It has happened more than a couple of times but the members who did that were usually either new or posted in the wrong thread accidentally (happened once only). So don't be afraid to visit the HI board because we are now much more careful about spoilers and spoiler discussions. Happy to say that JadeEyes is now back on the other board and she even helped us with a question we didn't know on the HI board. JadeEyes, I hope the "dumb little snit" you were referring to wasn't me? Episode 122 will be aired tonight in HI. I believe PA is one episode behind us now. They used to be one episode ahead of us till something happened. Their TV station aired the same episode twice 2 days in a row. Hi Betz, nice to see you here! I think I know who you were talking about. Everyone has been behaving very well -- following forum etiquette until that person came along. Actually, we in Hawaii are very fortunate. Our KBFD-HI Channel 32 is pretty much a full-time Korean TV station. Broadcasting hours are from 12pm to about 12am Monday through Sunday. I think they show informercials in the morning. We get some of the latest english-subtitled Korean dramas Mon-Sun, on top of KBS news at 9, YTN news (from Korea), entertainment programs like Gag Concert (one of the top shows in Korea), Open Concert, Housewife Singing Contest, Music Bank, Super Sunday TV, Entertainment News, Work Scene, eating programs, etc. We also get documentary programs like VJ Journalist, etc. The local Korean community even get LOCAL Korean news, covering events happening locally, in the US and around the world. There are also children programs. We get dramas from KBS, MBC and SBS. I believe KBFD-HI is sponsored by advertisers. We are getting more and more commercials. Almost all the dramas are subtitled except for one now, and it is Lee Jima, starring Choi Su Jong (Wang Guhn). Sorry for the long post. I think I may be the only member from the aloha state! Aloha!

Welcome, MJ! What an honor it is to have you amongst us!
Folks, MJ -- aka Meat Jun -- is a top authority on Korean dramas and responsible for starting the Yellow Handkerchief thread (and the infamous spoilers thread) on the KBFD discussion board -- possibly the most trafficked forum for YH (as well as other darumas). She is from our 50th state--Hawaii.
If memory serves me correct, MJ understands a good deal of Korean and watches YH episodes available on soompi, thereby providing recaps of episodes on the KBFD forum. She also seems to get a lot of info. about what's going on in Korea and at the networks regarding Korean dramas.
It's true, I did visit the KBFD board for the first time in quite a while a couple of days ago. This is mainly because someone here PM'd me and told me things are much better there as far as the non-spoiler thread staying uncontaminated. I braved it and found this is true for the most part, although I did see one post refer to something that happens in a future ep. and I quickly averted my eyes (just in time!). Otherwise, discussions were very contemporary, w/ the action there being about one week behind what we're seeing in Chicago. I think they just had the ep. in which Grandma Sohn gives her approval for the marriage. What an exciting place to come in! The board was buzzing when I peeked in.
I was able to answer the "what was the 'special lunch' " question from a couple of weeks ago that all of us wondered about, too (dog soup).
As to the problems that came up previously there, back when I was reading every day, no MJ, you were not the "dumb little snit" who barked at me insultingly when I complained about spoilers. In fact, I remember that you were very kind about jumping in to my defense and showing sensitivity to my concerns. No point in naming names -- it didn't help Elia Kazan any, LOL!
And I apologize for getting so worked up over this whole thing, and maybe saying harsher things than was necessary. I'm just very, very spoiler-shy now, as finding out some things that would happen has ruined some of the enjoyment for me when the episodes in question finally aired.
Among those who post here, I think you may be the first one from "the Aloha state" to jump in, but I don't know if there may not be some who read but don't post--or simply haven't mentioned they're in HI. Anyway, Aloha, MJ! I hope you will feel welcome here and will visit us as often as you find time to. Your insights are always refreshing!
And no apology necessary about length of post...I am the original queen of the long post, LOL! I'm sure I lose much of my audience half the way through. But I just can't help myself when it comes to YH -- I find I always have so much to say!
The people here are nice enough to indulge me.
Jade
