Oh No! the actor who played Jang Hee Bin's annoying brother in Dong Yi is on the show. I hope he keeps his throat aerobics to a minimum, or was it his huffing and puffing? He annoyed the crap out of me. He's actually a good guy in this one and he plays one of the few real history figure Heung Soo

I noticed him too. ;D So far he's acting like a real believable human being. Let us hope he remains so. So Truth, who's the other new character, the elderly man who's being played by the actor who was Jang Geum's foster father? He too seems to be playing it straight in this one. And there seems to be another bad guy who is holding hostage a comic relief character and his two (sons?), both of whom were hwarangs in GQS.

*Sigh* I read that Warrior Baek Dong Soo may be extended to 30 eps and this will not bode well for Gye Baek despite the former show being all flash (with the exception of Choi Min Soo). In spite of this I hope ratings improve

I forgot the other part of his name. He's also a fictional character. The comic relief character is Dokgae and his two henchmen(one of them is Yong Su. Remember that fat kid who got his butt kicked by Gyebaek in the earlier episodes?) are being held hostage by Moon Geun, who is Gyebaek's stepbrother. They're all fictional characters

In spite of this I hope ratings improve Gyebaek's most recent rating was 12%. It's actually doing worse than Gwanggaeto, which is currently getting 18%.(10% higher than Geunchogo's average ratings)

What a shame, this show is really growing on me.
I have to say, the scene where Mu Jin was carrying Gye Baek piggyback is about the sweetest scene I've seen in any of these shows. I guess I'm just a softie.
No scenes like that in Gwangaeto (nobody was screaming).

Episode 8 . . . . . . . . The scene where Gye Baek was sitting and staring at a square flat rock in the ground with little stones arranged on it. Then Kim Yushin came over and arranged the stones too (anyway that's what it looked like.) What the heck were they doing? Were some of the stones moving by themselves? ??

mugwump I thought I was imagining things seeing the stones move like that. Maybe it's haunted?

I'm glad somebody else saw them moving. All I could think of is that some of the stones contained magnetized iron ore. But I think that's a stretch. I hope we're not getting into mysticism here. Remember the levitating egg in GQS?

I don't know how you guys can stand this but i can't remember watching a drama recently that p****d me off the way this one does.
For one, the ridiculousness of the king's utter incompetence is of epic proportions and incredibly annoying. That Queen Sataek and her minions seem to have absolute power i find quite farcical - i reference ep 7 here when the two units were sent back by the Queen's father, the king was so powerless he had to burn the killing list (whatever its called) and had to have Gye Baek's father killed (only character that was atleast worth watching among this cast that is lacking) I find it hard to believe that Sataek wields such power - am not convinced. It feels like the writers are trying to force that notion on us instead of us naturally drawing that from the drama.
The kids are terrible actors - i particularly find Eun Go's sidekick annoying. You know what, i don't like some of the older actors either - the king, queen sataek, her father and the minions, the whole lot frankly - maybe except the king's loyal generals. Please someone tell me things get better when they grow up and Lee Seo Jin finally steps in?! Really disappointed in this drama cos i had high hopes and it started really well

He annoyed the crap out of me. LMAO!!!!! Am soo with you on that one! Love Dong Yi (hands down best drama ever! - for me anyway ;D). He started off as an interesting character but after a while his antics started to get old, and then things started to go downhill - made worse when they prolonged his character

Annette, I understand your frustration with the political situation. This is almost exactly like Mishil and GQS, and I think the writers are trying to reproduce that show's success using what worked so well in that one. Unfortunately, as you point out, they are trying too hard here. It's a tricky thing to deliver clever plot twists without getting contrived. I applaud them for trying. On the other hand, the powerlessness of the king versus his government has been plot material for many other dramas. Watch Ballad of Seodong, and you will see pretty much the same historical figures, and King Mu's father was the wimpiest most hapless king I've come across. Every single minister in his cabinet was a rotten apple of epic proportions. It took a lot for Jang/Mu to wrest control from them. Kingdom of the Winds was another show where the king was fighting an uphill battle against the nobles. I'd rather watch a show like this with understated acting, good production values, and intelligent twists and turns than one where there is senseless violence, yelling, and one-note characters (yes, Gwangaeto, I'm talking about you). After the time jump things seems to be getting more interesting, but still waiting for the subs, so may have to eat my words.
