Why do all these families keep on obeying these old conservative and ancient grandmothers? And why does Tae Youngs wife constantly have to clean up diapers, cook and do everything for the family? The real daughter does nothing.

Boy, you're right about that. Being a Korean daughter-in-law (or, in this case, granddaughter-in-law) must be pretty harsh. And Tae-young's grandma is one of the nicer ones!

I agree with Mikey that Tae-young's grandma is one of the nicer ones! The worst mood I've seen Tae-young's grandma in was when she found out that Mi-ryung lost her wedding ring and made her mother replace it for her. All TY's grandma did was scold MR, which is lucky for MR considering how the other grandmother or mother-in-laws would react! The meanest mother-in-law I've seen so far was Min-seung's mother from "To Be With You"! If I was Moon-hee, I would be totally terrified of Min-seung's mother!! But I guess it's what every daughter-in-law or granddaughter-in-law has to go through. It's not just Korean (grand) daughter-in-laws who have issues with their (grand) mother-in-laws, but also many other cultures!! Speaking of mother-in-laws, did you see Min-joo's new step mother-in-law!!?? YIKES!! She totally lashed out at MJ over the phone and in person!

The up side is that you get to do the same to YOUR daughter-in-law. That is, assuming you have one living with you. If she lives elsewhere, you can only chide her when she comes to visit, or over the phone. If you only have a son-in-law, you seem to have to pray you don't get ignored altogether.
I told my sister she should be glad she wasn't a woman living in Korea, and she replied "There's a LOT of places I'm glad I don't live".
