I just read on allkpop, that Song Il Gook has become very popular in Iran due to the airing "Jumong."
Check out his posters for LG Electronics as well. The posters are pretty cool, even though imagination is spelled wrong.

Song is certainly a charismatic actor. It's no surprise that the fans in Iran have taken notice.
But, even more curious to me is that Iranian television is actually showing Korean dramas on their government-controlled TV networks.
In light of this, I wonder how many Iranians have become Korean drama fans? It could very likely be more than all of us American K-drama fans put together!

I thought he was a little outgunned in Jumong. He played the callow youth really well, but he never seemed to be able to fill out the role as "years" passed. However, the other cast members helped him out a lot and the writing was pretty good, so you could let it pass. Surprisingly, Kim Seun-soo (Prince Daeso) really comes into his own here (but his character--through no fault of Mr. Kim--becomes a little tiresome), and there are a lot of other superior performances. I'd give it a B+ for the script and direction, an A+ for almost all of the performances, except B+ for Song Il-gook and A- for Huh Joon-ho (as Haemosu). (Sorry about that, Song Il-gook fans--he's just no Kim Myung-min.)

Song Il Gook is definitely my favorite. But, I was surprised to read that Korean television programs were being aired in Iran. Then again, what do I know?! Jumong was enjoyable, but would have been much better if it were only 50-60 episodes.

Yeah, petitesweetie, I think that was a problem, too. I enjoyed it, it just went on a little long.
I believe Iran is still a pretty cosmopolitan place, even after the "revolution." Apparently it did not descend into medievalism like, say, Afghanistan did. Have you seen any Iranian movies? They're very good, at least, the ones that get over here are.

There was a really sweet one a few (OMG it was 1995!) years back called "White Balloon." And now I can't remember what other ones I've seen, but I know it's been at least a few, and I know I liked them. Let me see if I can remember the titles. Too many movies rattling around in the old head.

Hi. I am Iranian. I accidentally found this page and noticed your comments about Iran. Your opinions of Iran are wrong. If you want to see some Iranian best movies I can suggest you some: 1.Children of Heaven 2.A Separation 3.About Elli 4.Mohammad 2015 5.Where Is the Friend’s Home? 6.Gold and Copper

Welcome skaa! Always great to have someone stop in from another part of the world. Nice of you to visit. The comments you're seeing are old. Anything you want to share about your part of the world, we're very happy to have it.
Thanks for the list of movies. I know "Children of Heaven" is a very respected movie in the West; was nominated for an Academy Award. I'm not familiar with the others but I will look them up.
Do you watch Korean Dramas? From reading posts here in our forum I know that Dae Jang Geum and Jumong both aired in Iran, but none of us knows how many other dramas may have aired there.
Anyway, thanks for joining us.
