Me too! The episode ending with Prince Gyeongjuwan was soo sad. This better have happened in real history. Then to top it all off, she wants to take another child from his sisters?!?! I agree jojo. The scenes with Prince Gyeongjuwan and Seol were heart breaking. Couldn't they have been banished together? They wanted to be by themselves to begin with. The Prince wanted to jump off the cliff but Gang Gamchan stopped him by reminding him of his newborn son. I doubt the King would ever allow him to see Sun. He didn't even allow his sister Hunae to keep the child.

ep 21/ 22? One of the Kitan generals, Yelu Dilie, has a very distinctive voice. Turns out it's actor Kim Myong-gok who played Song Hee-rip in IYSS. (he beat the drum on the ship upper deck during battles) I almost laughed when Hunae looked up to the rocky hillside and said, this looks like a good place for an ambush and, wa lah, there's your ambush! How ironical.

I don't see how Hunae became such a great and powerful ruler (at least according to KBS's bio of this series). The woman has no sense! She leaves the battle against everybody's better judgement to tell her brother not to believe the size of the enemy's army then, when she gets to the palace, fails to mention it and just starts insulting him. And Gang Jo, whom I like, is ready to go off half-cocked and rescue her, also against advice. If these two ever get together, they deserve each other.
BTW, didn't the king have her thrown in jail? Last nite she was out. Did I miss something?

(he beat the drum on the ship upper deck during battles) I recognized him in the first episode (page 2 of this thread). He does have a very distinctive voice. Since the invasion is starting we should see the other familiar faces shown in the beginning. Episode 22 I never thought the King would give in and allow Prince Gyeongjuwon to have his son. The drama shows the King dismissing the report of the approaching Khitan army. According to history, in late August 993, Goryeo intelligence sources along the frontier learned of an impending Khitan invasion. King Sungjong quickly mobilized the military and divided his forces into three army groups to take up defensive positions in the northwest. Advanced units of the Goryeo army marched northwestward from their headquarters near modern Anju on the south bank of the Ch'ongch'on River. The seriousness of the situation compelled King Sungjong to travel from the capital to personally direct operations. (Any shortage of weapons was due to the fact that all privately-owned weapons were previously collected and recast into agricultural tools.) I wouldn't want to be following Hunae. She is making rash and dumb decisions.

WOW! Thanks for the info on the real history tinks! The real King Sungjong sounds like a good ruler.

Yeah, he apparently was a very well-regarded king. But we don't get any of that in the series, because it's all focused on the family drama. It's a shame that they don't give us a more complete picture. I'm guessing it's because to the extent that Sungjong comes off favorably, it would reflect badly on Hunae later on, and the writers and producers don't want that.

I really enjoyed last nite's episode, 27 I think where Sol Hui brokers a compromise, the masked men menace Hunae but she jumps off a cliff, has that tender moment with Chiyang, and Gang Jo careens off like a madman looking for her.
The very beginning of this series with the nutso king and young dowagers was good. Then it sort of disintegrated. Now it's looking good again (even the music was more than OK) and I hope it stays that way.
I do have to say that throughout, even when the story lagged, the production values are excellent - the detail to costume and scenery - much better than DJY whic had way too many scened of long tables full of ministers talking, talking, talking.

He actually had a significant role in Age of Warriors as well Jojo. Did you get to see AOW? He was Che Won, the second sworn brother whom Yi Ui Bang betrayed in the series. I missed AOW; didn’t start watching historical dramas until Dae Jo Young. I’ve missed a lot!! I've read about how good AOW was. It was sad seeing Colonel Dae Dosu in Ep 25. After all the trouble DJY went through to restart Goguryeo, Bahlae didn’t seem to last too long. The actor playing Colonel Dae, looks familiar, possibly one of Empress Wu’s ministers in DJY? He looks very distinguished in this role.

jojo, Colonel Dae Dosu is the actor that played Japanese Commander Dodo in IYSS. Commander Kim Hoon was Yi Soon Shin's father. I enjoyed seeing Seo Hui and Gang Gamchan fighting. It didn't seem right having them working behind the scenes although both of them were very influential. I'm used to seeing them as warriors. I would like to know how Sa Illa doesn't cut her hand or slice her own throat when that bladed boomerang comes back to her. Kim Chiyang finally made his move on Hunae. Gang Jo is going to hate Chiyang even more.

They were good episodes (26 & 27)! Because they represented the most important battle of the series!! And it seems to be historically accurate.
What I liked best was Seo Hui, with Gang Gamchan standing behind him, making the deal with Xiao Sunning. I loved Seo's speech: "We are a descendant state of Goguryeo, not Shilla. That is why we are named Goryeo and we have chosen Pyongyang, the capital of Goguryeo, as our capital. So as far as borders are concerned, it is your country that violated our land." Seo's diplomatic move was awesome!!
....and now, back to our regularly scheduled soap opera....

Good episodes this weekend! I thought so too seven stars. I think Gang Gamchan would make a good detective. There's been several situations where he knew something wasn't quite right. He investigates and usually finds out the truth. It was a change of pace to see Hunae being human and shivering as she and Chiyang were running from the Khitans. Usually she's a one woman army that doesn't need to eat or sleep. When they were in the cave, I noticed the hay multiplied overnight as they slept. It was mentioned that animals must have lived there. I don't know how they got in and out of the cave because the entrance was quite steep. Hyangbi is the sister of Gang Jo's betrothed that was killed. I think she ran away when Hunae was talking about finding her a husband because she already loves someone else. Most annoying characters: Kim Wonsoong, Commander Yi Hyunoon and Escort Jo. One of the funniest lines was "Cut their throats off". ;D

Even though the drama is about Hunae, I can't feel for her; she's too head strong and not very wise to back it up. I missed a couple of episodes but thanks so much to your posts and such, I was able to catch up.
