One major drawback to Kingdom is the portrayal of Seryu who after a bright start is pretty much relegated to being a pretty face .
In real life Seryu was Mu-Hyul's closest blood relative as they both shared the same Mother and Father while the other 4 brothers and sister all came from various wives concubines . Seryu was very close to her younger brother all his life ,yes they were probably lovers too as incest was common in the Three Kingdoms period and Koryo ,in fact it was thought that Incest kept the bloodline pure .
Seryu also acted as Regent while Mu-Hyul was off fighting the Han General (later pretend /Usupring Emperor )Wang Mang who gave Muhyul his only defeat in Battle .
Other trivia tidbits Mu-Hyul was only 4 when Hy Myung was forced to commit suicide . Mu-Hyul became commander of the Goguryeo Army and killed Daeso at age 15 . Mu-Hyul became King aged 19 and died at age 40 from illlness ,as his only son Hodong was killed fighting the Nangnam Kingdom he was followed by his youngest brother (5th son of Yuri)who became the 4th King . Yeon was from the Goguryeo Royal Line not Biryu and probably died in Childbirth .
As it seems Seryu was the real love of Mu-Hyul's life i would like to have seen her have a bigger role in the drama (not the Incest part its TV after all )the character of Hae -Ap is probably closer to the real Seryu .

Fascinating information there - thanks! I've also found that Seryu and Hae-ap are among my favorite characters. Both of them are smart and courageous women, but despite loads of interesting potential, their characters have never really developed beyond a supporting role. Too bad.

I have the exact same sentiment as you, DYC. I just finished watching this drama (Kingdom of the Winds), and I also hoped for more scenes between Muhyul and Seryu. And you're right. Seryu had a good start at the beginning of the drama, but towards the end, she was practically thrown onto the sidewalk. Too bad she didn't have that much exposure in the drama. She was one of my favorite characters...and the actress (Im Jung Eun) who portrayed the role is really pretty and has good acting skills.
