How many of you saw the re-broadcast of last night's ep. which aired this morning? A sequence of scenes that were cut from the ep. were put back in this morning. Some of them were quite interesting, though I admit they didn't advance the plot too much.
We see how Ja-young passes her lonely, painful evening after walking out of the restaurant when Young-joon confronted her about the pix. It was almost heart-breaking. She sat through a movie that looked like maybe a Western, tears streaming down her face, while others in the audience were smiling and laughing. Next we see her at that same bar she went w/ her co-workers where she's singing into a mike that appears to be attached to a TV monitor...this seems to be a popular form of entertainment in Seoul. But there's no joy in the scene. She seems to be going through the motions w/ quiet tears.
Meanwhile, we see Young-joon at home, quietly tying one on at his kitchenette table. Looks like a bottle of Jim Beam. He tries JY on his cell phone, but her phone must be turned off. She's singing away at the bar w/ the mike. In the end, she returns home just in time to catch the tail-end of Grandma's instructions to Tae-young about the protocol of marriage tradition in Korea. Next, we see a very curious scene---a steamed up bathroom mirror w/ the reflection of someone standing in an uncurtained shower stall w/ clothes on, water pouring down over her. The camera pans across the small room to reveal Ja-young standing in the stall, wearing what looks like a long T-shirt and her hair still tied back, shower water running over her, drenching her. She's not washing at all...just getting soaked. Very strange.
Grandma's instrux too about marriage customs was odd as well. She told Tae-young a married male friend of his must deliver the bride's wooden chest 10 days before the wedding at sundown...that's why a lantern is required (ok...good to know!) Tae-young asks if it would be ok for him to deliver the chest himself. He explains none of his male friends are married and if he recruited one of them anyway, he'd have to haggle w/ them over a fee. Mi-ryung's family would have to prepare more food, too. Grandma admits this is true, and sadly and wearily concedes that if there's no other way, tradition will have to be modified this once and allow Tae-young to deliver the chest. Na-young learns Grandma turned down Han-soon's offer of money for the dowry in favor of outfits Han-soon would pick out for all of them and which Na-young might not like. Na-young is very disappointed, but Grandma can't be concerned in the least. A few more things are needed for Mi-ryung from the groom's family, and Ja-young promises to pick up the remaining items the next day.
One thing I enjoy so much about YH is this window to another culture, w/ such different traditions and customs...though I must admit some of them seem extremely odd and foreign. But I guess that's probably how many of our traditions and customs seem to Asians.
On a different subject...does anyone know why Tae-young and Mi-ryung have to make airline reservations for their honeymoon trip? I thought Young-joon already booked a round-trip flight for the newlyweds. Young-joon's question to Ja-young about that before she fled the restaurant seemed like it may have been a blooper...or maybe a glitch in the translation.
And on yet another subject...where is everyone? Did everyone but me go off on vacation or something? Seems like almost no one is posting anymore. This is very discouraging.
Come on Yellow Handkerchief fans! Wake up and sound off! I want to talk about the show w/ someone! Wah!! < >
