I don’t think I’ve even seen an hour of television that was so eventful. They were just dropping one bomb on us after another. Not only with all the deaths and the rebel storyline ending, but the new stuff certainly grabbed our attention, and now we’re off and running again without even a pause. And in the middle of it all was that simple, beautiful scene with the queen and Yi Sun. What an episode--a heck of a piece of writing. (It took twice as long as usual to edit the summary because the episode was so jam-packed.)
Question: Did Jeon Ilji write that letter to Choongnyeong because he had lost faith in the rebel cause and secretly wanted their assault to be discovered? The episode didn’t explore it, but to write a letter so full of specifics and give it to Um Jachi and tell him, Now don’t show this to anybody too soon—I’m sorry but that just isn’t something that a person would do if he wanted the assault to succeed. Did anybody else get that impression? Maybe I’m wrong, but there just doesn’t seem to be any other way to explain it.
And did anybody else recognize two of the new government people introduced after the flash-forward? The minister Huh Jo—we just briefly saw him—I’m pretty sure that was Bu Kiwon from DJY. And the new guy from the weapons bureau we saw near the end, he was in IYSS—he played Yi Sun-Sin, the deputy commander with the name similar to YSS.
For the previous few episodes I had started to wonder if the series wasn’t going to start getting kind of bland pretty soon. They sure took care of that: now Choongnyeong is a brute and Auri’s giving Yangnyeong baths. It’s a shame that this series isn’t getting the attention that DJY got because quality-wise there’s no comparison.
