This starts in my neck of the woods next Monday night after DJY re-runs finally are laid to rest Not to knock DJY but some of the episodes do not stand up when watched a second time ,maybe its just because they were recently on AZN . To Sejong i have read mixed reports on this a lot of what i have read seems to indicate it is a bore still from what i read here its more than worth watching and i love all that Palace intrigue stuff . Yi San has been airing but sadly dubbed into Mandarin still from what i have seen its really great .ditto King's Woman from 2003 (this has most of the DJY cast )though subtitled each episode is split in half ,i found King's Woman about Kwanghae and Lady Kim much better than Dae Jang Geum because it just seemed to have a more interesting story line which brings us back to Sejong . From a historic standpoint though Korea's Greatest King (at least in the Yi Dynasty )nothing much happened in his life it was a time of peace ,still he did create the Korean Alphabet and beat the Wako (Japanese Pirates )taking the Island of Tsushima from Japan and of course the whole Northern /Southern rivalry started in his lifetime (as in Ministers not Country )which im betting will be center to this drama . I have high hopes for this ,am i right ?

To me, this show is heaps more interesting than DJY. In DJY, I was hooked by the characters. Its too soon in Sejong to develop an attachment to any character [oh dear, did I just say that!] so its the great story line that keeps me watchng. It is very intriguing.

It's definitely worth watching. And watching closely, because there are factions and old grudges and schemes, and it's hard to tell who's on who's team. The emotional tone is different; many characters are really cold, not like DJY's band of brothers.

As Ginny said, it is worth watching, but you need to pay attention. Rather than two clearly delineated sides, there are shifting alliances, with most characters having their own personal agenda, which may not always be spelled out to the viewer at first. I think it's a good idea to record the show, since there are a few instances where there are references to historical events that probably every Korean learns in elementary school, but foreigners like us would have no idea of. In that case there are lengthy explanatory subtitles (the hand of our own Michael Han, maybe?), which it helps to hit "PAUSE" to read. I really hope this show gets a good fan base going here stateside, and that those fans who are knowledgeable about K-history can enlighten us on the details, as with the "Abdicated King" thread here. Much as I loved 'YSS', I haven't found any historical drama to be as fascinating as this since 'Jang Geum'. "Fascinating". Crimminy, I sound like Mr. Spock

As i said for me DJY was more of a romp ,it was great when it was on but life did not end at its demise either . Now Sejong just seems to have more substance to it ,as such i cant wait for it to start . Much as i enjoy drama's like DJY ,Emperor/Sea ,Jumong (mildly on that one ),4 Gods(ditto)it is stuff like Conspiracy In The Court ,Kings Woman and Yi San (even dubbed in Mandarin and sans subtitles on the latter )that really hooks me . Its going to be great to discuss this too (once i figure out who is who and the various plots ).

You said in your later post the life didn't end when the show ended, but for me when DJG ended, I was quite distressed and missed it a lot. Much more than when DJY ended.

Besides, could you tell me where you have found the "King's Woman"? It is not even listed on the K-drama sites. You can watch "Yi San" on www.mysoju.com/yi-san/(with English subtitles).

I am downloading it from a few places: the alt.binaries.korea Usenet newsgroup (via giganews), torrents via D-addicts (Slow!), and someone has made it available via MegaUpload on Nhatkyviet.com. Somone on D-addicts is doing fansubs fo Yi-San, which you have to combine with the .AVI's of the eps yourself. A bit of work, but the results look stunning. I'm doing the same for King Sejong, too.

Almos thats funny (as in strange )because the tv station is in Santa Clara (it could be ktvn even ) also in Santa Clara there is a video store called Han DVD or Han Video that has korean tv shows many with subtitles ripped straight from the airwaves a few days after broadcast and cheap too about a dollar a day rental . The Santa Clara public library has the Yi Soon Shin box sets (edited versions )as well .
