He's ok and super cute but his crying gets to me lol. I like him nonetheless and sympathize with him and the situation he's in, poor dear.

I'm glad you brought him up, reichan.
Why is he with his dad? At first, the two were practically sleeping in the street, then they moved into Dongji's apt, and now they're at Mansu's where Chan's finally attending school. There's that nice house at Jaebok's full of women to look after him even if his mother doesn't. Why can't he go there?
Is it some kind of Korean custom that whoever wants the divorce has to suerrender the kids no matter what kind of life they're being surrendered to?

Yes, that's the tradition. Chan belongs to his father's family, not his mother's. This is no longer the case legally (it was changed in the last year or two), but it's a centuries-old custom, as far as I have learned, and might be even older. Also, as we learned in the first episode, Miae was Missing In Action for a time while she pursued her acting career, so that explains why Chan is living with his father. And finally, Miae is not a fit mother--why should Chan's father, who is doing his best even though he doesn't have any money, be forced to surrender his son to be cared for by in-laws? They're not even the boy's grandparents; they're his aunts and uncles, his mother's brother, sister, and niece, so it's a tenuous blood connection in Korean terms. I think Chan's dad does a good job, all things considered.
The final reason, for purposes of the drama's plot, is that it's important that Chan and Sonya and Miae never meet at the same time, LOL.

Is Jaebok really Miae's brother coz early in the series she seemed really distant?Maybe,it's the age gap!

BTW, I re-read my message above and think it may have a tone I didn't intend. I was just going blah-blah-blah with my ideas and trying to be funny, but I think it might have sounded borderline-angry. If so, my apologies!

Back on topic, I really like little Chan. His face is so round and cheerful under that bowl cut. He's like a little man. He looks like a future king in a historical drama.

Yeah Pilseung, I didn't know Miae was going to be Jaebok and Dallae's sister when she first came on the scene but even when she could be Jaebok's sister, Dallae looks like the mom lol. Lucy, I want to pinch his cheeks so much!

If so, my apologies! \\ What?? You Lucy, being border-line angry??? No way .... If you're referring to the posting about the father-child tradition in Korea, I certainly could not find anything even remotely close to sarcasm or anger You made some very valid points. Miae is not mother material, even she knows that. Chan is much better with his father and he will be okay with the kids at school regarding a mother .. remember in other shows where that was the case - of course, specially remember LCH being Daddy of the Year! Just what one would expect of him LOL ... .

I don't know if you remember that Mi-ae didn't want Chan at the beginning. Later when she asked Dalhyeon for money, he reminded her that she took all the money from the sale of their house. Then she thought to herself that if she raised Chan, Dalhyeon should pay for all THEIR expenses! Actually, I dislike Mi-ae even more than I dislike Su-ah. Back to the actor, Chan. If you guys have seen these clips where they interview the actors and show their interactions with each other, Chan the person is a lot more appealing than Chan the actor! He's a cute litle imp and loves to tease Sonia over her lousy Korean, teases the vainpot for being a real vainpot in real life and teases Danpung that Sonia has replaced her as the beauty on the set Then there are shots of Dalhyeon feeding him ice-cream or walking about the set hand-in-hand with him. Dalhyeon said he got so used to Chan being his son that he forgot it was not so in real life!

Thanks, soapy. I wasn't sure. If you read that message real fast, it could sound like I'm ranting. LOL Yes, the thing where Chan sleeps through loud fights is amazing. IMO, all kids on Korean soap operas have periodic deafness. You can talk about them at the table, right in front of them, or yell at their mother while they're sleeping in the same room, and they won't hear a thing. Sheila, thanks for the cute tidbits from the interview clips. Chan sounds like a real handful in real life.
