Yes, I had to stick Sukyoung and Sun Wanrong in there. Sukyoung, the pampered princess, admired and eventually fell for DJY when he was just the palace guard, and she later served and cared for DJY when he was paralyzed. However, she was always (and perhaps, still is) second choice to fiery Chulin. And Sun Wanrong?... he was loyal to the Khan for all those years and was in a promising position, but being a simple guy who loved his people as much as the Khan, Shin Hong found it easy to polute his mind and use him for his own devices. As for the other characters, to me they were obvious canidates.

I'm glad that someone agrees with me that Chulin is DJY's true love. Just watch his eyes as he looks at her or as he says "Chulin-ah". This is opposed to his brief "wife" when he speaks to Sukyoung.

Teacher, Koreans generally agree with you on this. Sukyoung is regarded like an acceptable substitute once Chulin was unavailable. But in people's hearts, she is DJY's true love. Big tears when [glow=red,2,300](SPOILERS!)![/glow]
i deleted the spoilers -- if you want to talk about that, post a new message with the EPISODE # in the title

Although we still have 10 percent of the series to go....Without a doubt, it's Yeon Namseng. Having to live in the shadow of his father; constantly being torn between his own ambition and his wanting to do the right thing; making a mess of his life and fading into obscurity. Maybe the most complex character in the series, and the way we left him, groveling and sobbing on the ground...he gets my vote.

Good choice, ajk... yes, that poor guy never really decided who he was and what he stood for. He was too fickle, it seemed-- and that eventually brought his downfall.
And he just faded out of the story; we don't really know what happened to him...

As for the other characters, to me they were obvious canidates. Princess Sukyong is actually one of my favorite characters As for being "pampered," well, she is a royal princess, after all.....But she proved capable of adjusting to a life of hardship, as well, helping out however she could. She certainly was no prima donna.....She is certainly one of the more admirable characters in this drama.....

Geom The product of a love that could never be ,than choosing exile rather than reconciliation with DJY to prevent future wars . Still what about Biwu [glow=red,2,300]SPOILERS DELETED by JP [/glow]not to mention his devotion to DJY so i would have voted Biwu had he been nominated .

Three people that definitely should have made the list...General Dae Jun-sang, for all the tragedy he suffered in life, being separated from his wife and child for so many years, seeing his best friend die during their ill-fated sword duel, seeing the collapse of the once proud Goguryeon kingdom, the death of General Yang Manchun.....Of course, General Yang himself because of all that he witnessed and endured all for the sake of Goguyeo, especially the accusations of treason and his death at the hands of that traitor, Sa Bugu.....
General Bu Bigwang, a good man and an even better military tactcian, who was instrumental in inflicting a massive defeat on the vastly larger Tang army sent against Ansi Fort early in the series.....His death set the stage for much of the conflicts that followed.

domyoungchun--It's good to have you here from San Francisco and you're always welcome, but please DO NOT POST SPOILERS anywhere on this board except the spoiler thread! You've just ruined an important plot development for everyone in Chicago who saw your post. This is the Chicago board and we're up to Episode #122, so if you want to reveal anything in #123 or beyond, you must use the spoiler thread. That's the rule here.
For any administrator who might be reading: It might be a good idea to consider adding to the registration process for new members one of those I-have-read-this-and-I-agree-to-these-terms screens to make absolutely clear that anything not yet aired in Chicago is a spoiler and is restricted to spoiler threads. There seems to be a consistent problem with newer members not realizing how this works. I don't mean to sound like a grouch about it--I know that these are honest mistakes and the intentions are only good--but it sure seems like things need to be spelled out more clearly.

Please, domyoungchun, NO SPOILERS. We know it was unitentional, but would you (or a moderator?) remove your post so others don't get spoiled? (Luckily I was only half-awake when I read this, so I didn't thoroughly read it and get "spoiled"...)

It seems that many of the main characters have some sort of tragic essense to them... it is interesting to see everyone's opinion. Nalbal, sorry i missed that one. Just got it now. No prob'. Whoop's! Sorry about that ,actually i have read the rules which makes it even more stupid on my part i was just reading the post and thought" " hmmm we are missing someone here" and totaly forgot the spoiler aspect so apologies all around . That's alright. This series has produces a lot of problems for many of the regular viewers, since Chicago/New York/etc. all started showing it at different dates. We're all seeing different episodes, so it gets confusing as to what is a "spoiler" and for whom.

I had to change my vote. After watching the show for awhile I have to say that Chulin is the tragic character. I do like the Princess but here lately she is showing her claws. Meow.
