I agree that Gulsabiwu and Geumlan are a terrific match. In fact, I asked your question about a month ago, and they still aren't together (yet...). . I'm still hoping. Take a look at the Dae Joyoung category on this board. You'll like it. Oh, and welcome, Sayuri!

Maye the writers got too burnt out with the Chulin-DJY-Sukyoung drama, and heard a lot of criticism, so they backed off.....i wonder how tragic this romance will be compared to a similar one in Emperor of the Sea?

Geulman and Mimosa -- no way! for many reasons. First, there have been many serious/sensual looks between Gulsibiwu and Geulman, such as that wonderful scene where Biwu (short for Gulsibiwu) helps Geulman put dark strips on her face before battle (after ep. 68). Second, Mimosa is her master and mentor, plus he is a tactician (sp?) and not a warrior -- he seems intellectually her superior. And finally, I think Biwu and Geulman make an absolutely adorable couple. I'm counting on some action between the two of them before the series ends -- and I don't mean fighting action!

Hmmm...Mimosa not a warrior? True, we've never seen him fight and he claims not to be proficient with the sword, but who trained Geumlan to fight, in the first place? Personally, I like them the way they are and I think creating some sort of romantic situation (American style) would absolutely ruin it for me....It would be more appropriate if a situation arises where either Geumlan or Gulsabiwu were to sacrifice him or herself for the other......Now that's my idea of romance!

But I thought I would be laughed off this board... and I'm not new at all. See, opposites attrack... she's a warrior - he is not. He is the brains behind the operation. I'm sure I'm probably wrong, but it feels great to put this in writing. BUT jojo, if we're right won't it be fun to say 'I told you so'

Why must there be ANYMORE romances unless a future king gets conceived. P-L-E-A-S-E don't give these writers anymore ammunition. Otherwise this thing could drag on for another 600 episodes. So many possible relationships are still unexplored. I understand even more characters are coming up. If they're all male, I'm pretty sure there'll be no new romances. But, if new females come in, there could be trouble.
Welcome, Sayuri.

I don't think Gulsabiwu and Geumlan will get anywhere and Mimosa ... no way ... he has never shown any interest in her or any other women. Makes you wonder, doesn't it? Anyway, did you know that the actress who plays Geumlan, Shim Eun Jin, used to be in a very popular Korean girl group called Baby V.O.X ? Here is a picture of her with her band (one on the right): And a video of her group performing in North Korea!! www.youtube.com/watch?v=xo7liYi1kA8

I'm sure I'm probably wrong, but it feels great to put this in writing. BUT jojo, if we're right won't it be fun to say 'I told you so' I don't think the issue is about opposites attract. Geumlan has served Mimosa since the time he saved her life many years ago and she feels indebted to him, enough that she would gladly lay down her life for him at anytime. In other words, her loyalty to him is almost absolute....Perhaps if he ever wanted to have his way with her, she'd most likely consent without hesitation, but the fact that he apparently hasn't shown it is testament to his character and reinforces her own feelings for him. Mimosa is more likely a father-figure to Geumlan. I don't think her being a warrior is even a factor if Mimosa indeed has any attraction to her which I don't think is the case. He molded her into the person she has become and most likely had a hand in her martial arts training, as well. I regard Mimosa as a very mysterious figure, kind of like Yoda. The fact that he has stated that he is not proficient with the sword doesn't mean he is not an experienced fighter, only that he has been good at hiding his talents from the rest of the group.

I must admit, I have grown rather fond of some of these characters: Geumlan, Biwu, Sudol (That blasted bastard! LOL), Gaepil (I am still the Wolf of Madu! LOL), Tungso, and Dae Jun Sang (Just looking at that often sorrowful expression in his eyes and you could almost feel the emotional weight on his shoulders....)

Finally—FINALLY—in #104 we get our first hint of an explanation for why Mimosa and Geumlan are together. This is something I commented on a while back, that it seemed so odd for Geumlan to be Mimosa’s ward when Mimosa was clearly the merchant/intellectual type (going all the way back to his first appearance in the Baekje Town episodes) and Geumlan was always a soldier. But Gulsabiwu asked her point-blank in #104 and she gave some cryptic answer about him saving her from being “buried alive” when she was a young girl. Obviously there’s a much bigger story there, and I hope they flesh it out more at some point, but at least now we start to have a clue about it.
chocopie, thanks for that info about the actress who plays Geumlan. Especially with the decision to extend the series, it does make me wonder if her character’s inclusion and increasing importance in the series is as much ratings-driven as anything else. Not that I mind her being part of the storyline; it’s nice to see some effort to increase the female presence in the storyline. (Although I do wish that TV shows would stop writing sequences where petite, slender 100-pound women routinely kick the stuffing out of entire groups of big goons twice their size. No it’s not a gender thing, it would be just as annoying if the genders were reversed.)
I’m sure Geumlan and Gulsabiwu will end up together, but the show might as well take its time developing it. We still have 32 more episodes left.

Hmmm...I seem to recall hearing that story before or at least, some related to it, which was why that scene didn't surprise me one bit when I saw it. Awww...that's part of the fun of watching this series... Seeing Geumlan slaughter Tang warriors left and right, but no one can touch Biwu though....He can wipe out whole units by himself....He's the Sir Launcelot to DJY's King Arthur....

It's interesting to find out how the relationship between Mimosa and Geumlan started and I hope they do explain it in more detail. I agree with ajk, it's a "yeah, right" moment whenever we see these petite women taking down guys who have 100 lbs. on them. No way. They would probably laugh and say "was that supposed to hurt"? It is entertaining to watch good fighting style whether it's male or female, but I guess believability goes out the window. Ever since Mrs. Peel from the Avengers started doing it back in the 60's, it's become a trend. Having a weapon in hand and taking a man by surprise is another story. I still enjoy watching though.

I saw one site (wikipedia.com) that called Geulman, Mimosa's little sister. So I guess she is his ward.
