I don’t know, maybe it’s just me but I was getting kind of bummed out watching #100. Originally this was supposed to be the last episode, and if they’d kept all of the extra padding out of the storyline (without extending to 136 episodes) I think it would be wrapping up very satisfyingly right now. But the episode just had kind of a been-there-done-that feel to it. Shin Hong running around conning people into fits of anxiety, people still doubting DJY’s intentions after everything he’s done, it’s just getting a little tiring right now. And Geom’s paternity would really put the whole Khitan state in desperate peril? It’s just seeming a little too contrived. Can't even work up much enthusiasm to say more about it.
Did anybody really like the episode? Would be interested to hear others’ thoughts. At least we know the series goes through ups and downs, so maybe the Liaodong arc that’s coming will be better.

So true, so true....A lot seems so contrived and things could have been handled neatly without the extra stuffing....Me thinks KBS decided to extend it due to high ratings.....They are probably thinking, the followup may not get the 30 percent that DJY is getting....Personally, I think this drama still has enough mileage although the storyline is showing its age...I think much of eps. 96 through 98 could have been omitted without skipping a bit.....

The Tuesday afternoon & wednesday repeats were the same episode..i missed the beginning trying to adjust my antenna....but i THOUGHT it was 100 that was repeated twice...was that the episode that ended with a modern song & flashbacks?
As for it ending later rather than sooner...we've got a couple of deaths (historically) that should be a few episodes long, and the longer term aftermath should add more as well....

Recalling the meeting with both DJY's people and the Khitans in which DJY was updating the King Jinzhong on the preparations for war with the Andong Protectorate and a brief argument arose because initially DJY wanted to take his family with him since he was anticipating a long military campaign and objections arose because Li Kaigu insisted that they should stay (presumably as hostages because that is what that looked like....) and no one seemed to know how to best to respond to this....Of course, DJY could have gently said that he wanted his family near because he didn't to stay away from them for long, but he didn't....But I did like Mimosa's suggestion that Geom join the DJY expedition which Geom gladly accepted....Heheheheh...that put Li Kaigu back in his place....But that whole scene looked way to contrived, as well....Very sloppy writing and plot development...Still, there is enough going on to sustain my interest....I am keeping my fingers crossed that this series doesn't go in the direction of Emperor of the Sea which in my opinion had one of the worst endings on record!

my interest starting waning when i realized that each episode is structured in the same way.....meeting at table..someone runs in and says general...delivers stunning news..long look at camera....curses....breakaway to opponent......they need to get a new script template....captscarlet hits on a good point that kbs senses a good thing and tries to capitalize..even though the script and characters suffer.....what do they call in hollywood when the show gets so bad they really destroy the thing...."Jumping the shark" i hope, but i doubt it will turn around...i think i will write KBS and let them know they are losing the audience..well at least me that is....

Heheheh...actually, the "template" you described has been going on since Day 1....I think all other military-oriented Korean historicals are pretty much structured the same way....I actually don't have much problems with that except for the other annoying issues.....I would tell KBS regarding this and other historical dramas: Stop manufacturing scenes for the sake of "drama" and put a little more thought and logic into the storyline....Make sure there is a bit more consistency and a natural progression from one scene to another....Remember the details from previous scenes or episodes and make sure they don't conflict with the direction of the storyline....

I have forgotten the history part of this series mainly due to inconsistency and poor writing on part of the writer and too much of same scene and also annoyed by the actors performance as Li kaigo. I am still very much interested in DJY(Choi Su-Jong)most especially. Also I like the performances of Heuk Sudol,GSW, Sukyoung, Mimosa, Li Wen,even he does so bad to DYJ but his performances is not annoying. I will continue to watch Dae J0 Young as long as Choi Su-Jong is in. They shd have killed Li Kaigo long time ago.

well, i don't know if i saw ep 99 or 100 twice in a row?
It could be they goofed and accidentally showed 100, because i don't remember a episode-ending scene (with appropriate cue music) that set up the dword fight between Geom & Li Kaigu
If anyone saw #100, did it end with a collage of past scenes, with a modern Korean pop song playing?

Episode 99 aired on Monday night only. Episode 100 aired on Tuesday afternoon, Tuesday night and a third time on Wednesday afternoon. Episode 100 is the one which ended with a montage of past scenes set to Korean pop music.

Jang Bogo did meet a tragic death just as it was in the drama. The only thing different is Yeom Jang didn't meet the same tragic death Jang Bogo did. I hate that guy. and don't worry... DJY will not end like Emperor of the Sea did. In real history, DJY is the 1st King of Balhae, or the Great Jin, the kingdom that suceeded Goguryeo. intersting that although they called their country, the Great Jin, their diplomatic letters to Japan, the King of Balhae referred themselves as 'the King of Koryo'
